Microsoft started to ban Xbox 360s that have a modified dvd firmware that allows backups to run. Even 360s with the newest Xtreme firmware have been confirmed to be banned.

    Keeping Xbox live fair:
    http://gamerscoreblog.com/team/archi...17/545414.aspx
One of the great things about LIVE and the unified community is that we work hard to create a level playing field for all gamers and have a no tolerance policy towards inappropriate behavior like hacking or cheating. As part of our commitment to our members, we do not allow people that we have detected to have modified their console to connect to LIVE. This is an important part of our efforts to try and maintain a fair gaming environment for the large majority of gamers that play by the rules. This topic is more important than ever given the recent release of the Halo 3 beta. As a result, some consumers that try to login to LIVE who we detect have illegally modified their console will get an error code (Status Code: Z: 8015 - 190D) when trying to connect to the service. These users will not have their account automatically banned from LIVE, but they will no longer be able to access the service from the console they modified.

We have stated in the past that customers can only enjoy access to the Xbox LIVE community through the use of a genuine, unmodified, Xbox console and we will continue to enforce this rule to ensure the integrity of our service, the protection of our partners and the benefits of our users.

    News from Coder

The beta testers have bene slaving away for the past couple of weeks, and the word is, it works.

So here it is, version 0.4.

The main changes in this version are the addition of an audio player, the inclusion of config routines within the program, UTF-8 support for multiple languages along with language files to translate all the prompts/menus and an improved "on the fly" wordwrapping that decreases load times and means you don't lose your bookmark when you change config settings.

    Neat huh?

Anyway, it's available on the Sourceforge Website. The Website also holds some themes and the language files (see the translations section). ...

Japanese RPG fans rejoice! Well, Japanese fans of RPGs, not fans of Japanese RPGs. You guys can rejoice too if you want. Anyway, Oblivion is being released in Japan all over again, only this time in Japanese! When the game was released in English last year, a petition immediately went up calling for the game to be translated into the native tongue. Understandable really - it was the equivalent of the next Final Fantasy game being released in the states without being translated from Japanese. Trying to play a story driven game while struggling to understand the story sucks.

Then in December we were told by Xbox Japan that a localized version was in the works, for release sometime this year. Well thanks to a co-publishing agreement with Japanese publisher Spike, the game is now set to ship on July 26th.

"We are pleased to be partnering with Bethesda Softworks to bring this landmark role-playing game to Japan," said Mitsutoshi Sakurai, CEO of Spike. "We are sure that Oblivion will enjoy the same level of success and critical acclaim it has achieved in other parts of the world. "
He talks as if it was never release in Japan at all. I suppose to many Japanese gamers it wasn't. ...

Compared to the interpretations we're constantly exposed to in modern forms of entertainment, certain aspects of our society can seem a little dull. We're generally not entertained by the sort of justice dished out in a court by some gavel-wielding grandpa, and have to turn to more ... extreme measures. Pursuit Force returns to the PSP this Fall with Extreme Justice, putting the kibosh on criminals and encouraging your over-the-top cop to keep his limbs outside the vehicle at all times.

Adding 3 more playable characters to the mix and a new array of vehicles to leap on, over and between in high-speed chases, Pursuit Force: Extreme Justice hopes to make good on the promise the original game showed but delivered in pieces. Let's hope it's transported in an armored van this time. ...

It wasn't easy getting Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix on both Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network, according to Capcom's Sr. Director of Strategic Planning & Research Christian Svensson. "It requires considerable coordination," he said in an interview with Gamasutra, "but we've been working closely with Sony and Microsoft, and they both agree with our strategy."

In terms of price, Svensson said that they will likely be identical for both platforms. "We're offering the same value as far as the type of content, so it only stands to reason," he said. "If the timing's the same, and if the content is the same, pricing should probably be the same."

Svensson added that multplatform releases, even in the real of downloadable content, would be Capcom's primary focus, but that console-specific content might happen. "Are there exclusive content deals that could be struck? Possibly," he said. ...

In a Sony Gamers Day recap, Lazard Capital Markets reported on the latest PlayStation Network (PSN) figures and Sony’s plans to release over 200 games across the PS3 and PSP; also mentions a PSP hardware “refresh.”
Sony plans to release 90 third party PS3 games this year and 15 exclusives from first and third parties, according to new investor note from Lazard games industry analyst Colin Sebastian.

Some of the highlighted PS3 software at Sony’s event this week included the Game Developers Conference hit Little Big Planet, the multiplayer SOCOM Confrontation, Heavenly Sword and Pain, a downloadable title which lets you launch your character into comically painful situations using an oversized slingshot.

Sebastian added, “[Sony] also indicated that 140 titles would launch on the PSP, while a video download service and hardware refresh are expected later this year.”

Rumors of revised PSP hardware have been circulating for many months. It seems just a matter of time before Sony makes a formal announcement. PlayStation hardware typically goes through one major revision during a lifecycle.

Sony also revealed that the free PSN has 1.5 million users, including 775,000 in North America with 6 million content downloads to date. Xbox Live boasts over 6 million users between free Silver account and paid Gold subscribers.

“We believe a successful online gaming effort increases the shelf life of video game software, provides an additional revenue stream for publishers, and broadens the overall usability of consoles,” said Sebastian.

Also as part of his note, Sebastian forecast that April US software sales figures were up 15-25 percent over the same month a year ago, which saw $395 million in sales. Market research firm NPD Group is expected to release monthly sales data later today. ...

Sticking to a solid release schedule, Rampage World Tour busts down buildings and feeds on the innocent today on PSN. The game is $4.99 and supports Rampage's three monster mayhem both online and off. We're starting to run out of announced titles for PSN, so we expect a new list sometime soon.

On a general Rampage note, if there is any series that could use a revamp it's Rampage. It's freakin' monsters busting down buildings and although the game sells itself, it'd be nice to see a new Rampage that doesn't feel identical to the original from the Reagan administration. The Rampage series deserves more than what it's getting. ...
