Mafia II has topped the UK all-format charts on its week of release, despite seeing review scores which ranged from 94 to 40 per cent.

2K's open world mob story shot straight in at number one, according to the figures released by Chart-Track, knocking last week's first place game, Kane & Lynch 2, down into second place.

Despite this initial sales success, outspoken analyst Michael Pachter had earlier claimed that Mafia II is "unlikely to achieve profitability" because of its half-decade development time.

Wii Sports Resort and Sniper: Ghost Warrior were the only titles to move up places in the top ten, whereas last week's number six game, Nintendo's Art Academy, has dropped out of the top 40 all together.

k8pmp writes with news that iFixit, a website known for Apple gadget teardowns and repair guides, is expanding into the game console market, launching a series of troubleshooting and repair guides to help gamers fix their own machines. They're also starting to sell replacement parts and the tools necessary to work on them.
"Right now there are repair guides for 24 gaming consoles, including 206 repairs and upgrades. Some of these fixes deal with major issues, such as the infamous Red Ring of Death from the Xbox 360, but others are simpler. For instance, right now there is no easy way to clean out the fans inside your console. 'I think this is probably the number one cause of overheating these days now that manufacturers have mostly gotten their act together,' Wiens said. 'This is routine maintenance, and it's mind-boggling that the manufacturers don't provide people with an easy way to open the case up and blow it out.' You'll also learn how to replace broken LCD screens on your portables, replace the motherboard on your PlayStation 3, and do just about anything else you might want to do to these systems, from the simple to the harrowing."

Update: The new pad will be out on November 9 in the US - where it will cost $64.99 - and February 2011 in Europe. Check out a video of it through here, or look at the pretty pictures below.

Microsoft's just confirmed to CVG that a new, first-party Xbox 360 pad will be released next year - and thrown over a few pics of the device.

"The Xbox 360 Wireless Controller with Play & Charge Kit - with Transforming D-pad will be available beginning early 2011 in the UK," said a spokesperson.

As rumoured earlier the d-pad raises up when rotated 90 degrees - which will assist fight fans with their combo-tapping arse kickings.

The format holder has improved the D-pad in the past. It released a Limited Edition Pro Evolution Soccer-themed controller back in 2008.

Maybe we're getting a controller for every genre. Who knows?

What would YOU change about the current Xbox 360 pad, readers?

Dildo attachments for Wii Remotes. They exist.

That's almost all you need to know, but we'll fill you in (*pun No.1*) anyway.

The Wii dildos are made by Mojowijo and "able to transform the varying motions of the control into appropriate vibration signals".

But don't worry - Nintendo hasn't lost its mind. The devices work with PCs - not the Wii itself - and allow two users to send good vibrations (*No.2*) to each other.

We don't want to get something as important as this wrong, so here's the blurb from the Mojowijo website:

"The device is attached to the accessory port on a Nintendo Wii Remote control. The control is then connected to a bluetooth enabled PC running Mojowijo software."

"Using Mojowijo's patent pending Motion2Vibration technology, the device is able to transform the varying motions of the control into appropriate vibration signals and send them to another selected device - in the same room or over the internet. (Wii gaming console NOT required)... Essentially turning your Wii Remotes into shared, remote controlled vibrators (aka Wii vibrator or Wiibrator!)"

The company behind the controversial PSJailbreak, a device that allows users to play homebrew and pirated code on PS3 for the first time, has asserted its position in the face of Sony’s legal challenge to the product.
Last week Sony was been granted a temporary injunction preventing the importing or sale of the device.
However, PS3News reports that the manufacturers claim the challenge is nothing more than a “scare tactic” and that “'nothing illegal has been done – there is no copyrighted code, and we have not interfered with any intellectual property law”.
“This is not OzModChips Vs Sony. This is not OzModChips, Quantronics, Modsupplier Vs Sony. We would go as far as saying that is not even everyone in Australia Vs Sony. This will effect everyone that plans to buy such a device world wide,” a statement reads.

“It already sets a dangerous precedent. Everyone that was using OtherOS, everyone that has had a faulty PS3 laser and those interested in PS3 custom firmware and homebrew applications. We cannot do it alone, we need the support of everyone the homebrew community, the media, engineers that understand the inner workings and anyone else that can provide support.”

The retailer has also pledged to receive all orders it has received if Australian courts decide to uphold the existing ban.
In addition, Kotaku reports that the court hearing to access the temporary injunction previously scheduled to take place today has now been postponed until Friday September 3rd. The sales ban will therefore remain in effect until at least then.
