Yesterday Japanese magazine Famitsu unveiled what Capcom has recently been teasing Nintendo fans about: a sequel to Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles subtitled The Darkside Chronicles. This morning Capcom reassured North American fans that the sequel is heading West this year. The Darkside Chronicles apparently has a more in-depth co-op mode. It is set during Resident Evil 2 and stars Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield. An on-rails shooter like Umbrella Chronicles, it will give fans a chance to relive some classic moments in the series and also fill in some gaps in the story. Players can use the new evade system performed with the Wii remote. Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles is set for release this winter.

Along with this news, the publisher announced a line of Resident Evil "Classics" that will bring the GameCube games Resident Evil (the remake) and Resident Evil Zero to Wii. The Classics will set you back $30. Both should arrive this year. As with Resident Evil 4, these ports will be outfitted with Wii pointer controls.

Rumours of a mythical civilization in space prompt our hero Phantom to have one last raid before retirement. As the sub-title would suggest, the game takes place on Mars with Phantom needing to collect the twenty gold cubic containers hidden away in the mines of Mars.

Not ones for wasting any time in getting new games produced, The Mojon Twins emerge from their recent split from CEZ with their own development group and another game in the Phantomas series. Phantomas Tales #1: Marsport is a classic style platform game with the added benefit of a back-story and plot.

The game is available on the Amstrad CPC and ZX Spectrum, and Speccy users can choose between a 48K or a 128K version. The 128K version not only has different graphics and sound, but an intro, AY music, and sound effects. David Hasselhoff, the man responsible for Knight Rider, Baywatch and the reunification of Germany, has revealed he's a big fan of the Wii.

And he wasn't afraid to use his fame to get hold of one, either. "I play celebrity cards for two reasons: When I want to front row seats to U2 or tickets to Coachella and be backstage, all access, or I want to see Billy Joel and want to hang out," Hasselhoff told MTV.

"I want to cut the line. I really suck up to celebrity. It is my guilty pleasure... It’s really frigging embarrassing."

So what happened when Hasselhoff decided he wanted a Wii, but his local games shop said they had none in stock? "I said, "This is David Hasselhoff, okay? I've got a daughter. I love my daughter, more than life itself. This is all she wants, okay?"" Well, that and for you to stop eating kebabs off the bathroom floor having drunk yourself shirtless, Dave.

""I don’t know if you realise it but I’m going through a rough time right now. And so this could really help me help my daughter.""

Amazingly enough, the shop said they did have one after all, so Dave hopped in his talking car and went to pick it up. "The guy goes: "Are you kidding me? Are you freaking kidding me? Knight Rider! Dude!" And then, forget it, any game I wanted."

Dave said he's been enjoying "the yoga" and "the exercise", presumably in Wii Fit. He also likes Guitar Hero, "which is just sick".

Hasselhoff will shortly appear in Ready 2 Rumble for the Wii, hopefully wearing a light-up jacket and piano keys scarf. All together now, "Worked on a farm, got some muscle in my arm..." ...

As we've seen, fluctuations in exchange rates are messing with Nintendo's bottom line in the UK. While this won't affect consumers looking for a Wii, the DS might be another story.

According to a "trusted source within the retail industry" (ie a British retailer), Go Nintendo are reporting that thanks to shrinking profit margins on Nintendo hardware the DS is about to go bundle-only. As in, you won't be able to buy just a DS, you'll need to buy one with a game included, at a slightly higher price.

It's close, but no cigar. Ninendo have told GI.biz "We will be increasing the availability of DS Lite bundles with software in the UK, however solus will still continue to be listed". That's the good news! The bad news? The classiest of the console's colour schemes - silver & white - are being phased out. ...

Call of Duty 4 has racked up 11 million unique players since launch on Xbox Live, and over 4 million on PlayStation Network, according to Infinity Ward's Rob Bowling.

Bowling revealed the sensational figures when accepting one of COD 4: Modern Warfare's three BAFTAs in London on Tuesday night.

"I'm delighted that we just reached 11 million unique players on Xbox Live and we've got over 4 million on PSN," Bowling said, according to eyewitnesses (who'd had a bit to drink so don't blame us if the wording isn't exact).

We've confirmed with Activision that the figures relate to COD 4 alone, not the entire Call of Duty franchise.

According to Microsoft, Xbox Live has 17 million users overall, meaning two-thirds of them have played Infinity Ward's first-person shooter. The figures track all players, not just those who've played online multiplayer (necessarily so, since the word is that only 9.5 million people pay for Xbox Live Gold).

Add the untold number of players out there who haven't connected their 360s to the internet, and you get a sense of the true scale of Infinity Ward's success - and that's not even counting PC and PS3 players. As a comparison, MMO king and Activision Blizzard stablemate World of Warcraft has 11 million players worldwide (although, unlike the COD figure, these are all currently active).

Infinity Ward is currently working on a Modern Warfare sequel, due for release at the end of this year. ...

Resident Evil 5 on the PlayStation 3 has debuted at the top of the Japanese software sales chart, shifting 319,000 units, according to Media Create.

Capcom's survival horror was followed by Sega's DS title Seventh Dragon, which debuted with 80,000 unit sales. Resident Evil 5 appeared once more at number three on the Xbox 360, selling 79,000 units.

PlayStation Portable title, Shin Sangoku Musou Multi Raid came fourth, while Yakuza 3, for the PS3, dropped from first to fifth place.

DS titles Mario & Luigi RPG 3 and Aibou DS took sixth and seventh places respectively, with the latter title debuting this week at 43,000 units.

Super Robot Taisen Z Special Disc, for the PlayStation 2, also released this week, took eighth place with 28,000 units.

Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G (PSP the Best) came in ninth and Tennis no Oji-Sama: Doubles no Oji-Sama - Girls, Be Gracious! for the DS, debuted at number ten with 14,000 units sold.
