Sony Australia today confirmed that "it will not be introducing the limited edition 160GB PS3 announced by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe at the 2008 Games Convention Developers Conference (GCDC) held in Leipzig, Germany." The company did state, however, that Australia will be receiving the new PSP model on October 16 (read more here), while the Wireless Keypad will also be released in Australia "before the end of the year." It also confirmed that Play TV, the system that allows PS3 users to watch, pause and record free-to-air TV, will be heading to Australia in the first half of 2009.

While Aussie gamers may not have the 160GB model to look forward to, we will be stepping up to the 80GB system soon – it's coming to Australia on August 28 for AU $699, and will have a DualShock 3 controller bundled in.

With no sign of the PSN video download service for Australia (the last word from Sony was that it wouldn't be coming to Australia any time soon) and Play TV only having a nebulous 'first half of 2009' date, it's not surprising that Sony isn't pushing the new 160GB model down under. After all, it has no new features beyond the expanded storage. We would hope, however, that as video downloads and Play TV come closer to reality in Australia, that the 160GB model will be re-evaluated.

For those of you interested in the Wireless Keypad for PS3 it's a Bluetooth enabled accessory "designed to fit precisely into the unique shape of SixAxis and DualShock 3 wireless controllers, allowing users to enjoy text chat communication more easily and comfortably in their hands. In addition to the keypad for text input, a Touch Pad Button enables PS3 users to use the entire surface of the keypad as a touch pad, allowing them to easily manoeuvre the pointer while web browsing, simply by sliding their finger on the keypad surface. Also, two shortcut buttons, a Communication Button and a Message Box Button, are placed on the lower part of the Wireless Keypad, enabling users to jump to pre-set features on XMB (XrossMediaBar) such as 'Friends' and 'Message Box' during game play, which help users to easily communicate with each other." Yes, it's quite a bit like a juiced up version of the Xbox 360 Chatpad. ...

Moving on to Sony's media goodies, here's the Killzone 2 screenshots released at the Leipzig Games Convention.

A release date was nailed down at E3 a few months ago, and you'll be able to walk into the shops and pick up your copy of the massively hyped FPS in February 2009.

Let's hope it's not just another very average action shooter - that would be embarrassing.

Here are the latest SOCOM: Confrontation screenshots from somewhere in Germany. Cough.

Beta keys for the latest multiplayer shooter instalment are being dished out in groups of three for pre-orders.

So if US gamers get down the shops in time for the September 1 open date you can try out Confrontation with some mates before launch.

We're still waiting for word from Sony on a UK beta scheme, but we're not holding our breath to be honest.

A patch to rectify the money-making exploit in the Fable 2 Pub Games "is on the way".

Developer Lionhead prepared us for the fix alongside some general hints and tips for the card games that are based entirely upon luck.

"If you are wondering about a 'much talked about' exploit, just ignore it (and know that a patch is on the way)," reads a Lionhead post on the Fable 2 blog.

The Fable 2 Pub Games exploit allows you to craftily bet much more money than specified by pressing a shoulder button on the Xbox 360 pad at a specific itme. Money won will be transferable into Fable 2 this October. Oops.

The Fable 2 Pub Games cost 800 Microsoft Points (GBP 6.80 / EUR 9.60) from Xbox Live. Check out our Fable 2 Pub Games review. ...

Konami has announced plans to release a Sumo Digital-developed remake of GTI Club on the PlayStation Network this November.

Called GTI Club+, the new game adopts the 1996 coin-op's open racing environments and spruces them up with 720p graphics at 60 frames-per-second.

There will be a great many vintage and modern vehicles to race around in, apparently, and you will be assisted by Sat Nav, a new rear-view mirror and fancy 5.1 surround sound - including a remix of the arcade machine's Atjazz music.

There are Free Run, Arcade and Bomb Tag modes, support for eight-player online racing, and worldwide rankings to keep track of your achievements.

Apparently the game even supports EyeToy HD, although we don't know why. Perhaps you can capture people's souls.

Konami has yet to confirm a price for GTI Club+, but you can expect to see it in November and you can expect it to look like it does in our GTI Club+ screenshot gallery. ...

Over at BoyGeniusReports is this leaked shot of what's allegedly the CDMA version of HTC's fabby Touch Diamond cellphone. And oh boy, oh boy... that's one phone that's not been on a diet: compared to the GSM version sitting on top of it it's one big ugly fat fellow. Apparently it's actually "more comfortable to hold," but you've got to wonder about the weight of the gizmo, and the tightness of your pockets. ...

Daimion Pinnock, producer at SCEA, has told the US PlayStation blog that WipEout HD is on track for release autumn. Though he stopped short of actually telling us when in autumn it might get the green light.

"Hello, readers. Daimion here and I'm excited today to release some details on WipEout HD, coming to PSN this fall," he says. "We've been mum on WipEout HD recently - keeping many of you in serious suspense, I know - but that doesn't mean we haven't been cranking away at bringing you an awesome anti-gravity racing game in 1080p HD!"

You may remember that we brought you the news that the game was failing epilepsy tests so much it had to be reworked. Catch up on that story here.

"WipEout HD will feature a selection of the best tracks taken from previous versions of this iconic franchise that have been reworked to show-off the graphical capabilities of PS3. But don't take my word for it, if you want to see how good WipEout HD in 1080p and at 60 frames-per-second, check out the video."

Logitech has decided to make a force feedback racing wheel for Wii to work with Need for Speed Undercover.

The peripheral will cost GBP 59.99, launch this November, and do futuristic things such as turn 200 degrees and feature built-in analogue gas and brake controls. It's also wireless, and reducing clutter further is the clever one-piece design.

Which all sounds rather pointless, although the Logitech Speed Force Wireless racing wheel will probably be rather good, judging by the quality of the PS3 version we tested recently.

Need for Speed Undercover was uncovered just the other day, starring Hollywood actress Maggie Q who you might remember from Mission Impossible III, Die Hard 4.0, or simply some pictures on the internet.

How I've avoided to avoid touching Street Fighter IV for this long is a mystery to me, but today marks the very first time I've gotten to play the next chapter in Capcom's venerable fighting franchise. The company had an early Xbox 360 build available in their press room, which they were using to highlight focus attacks, a new feature in SFIV that gives players a rather powerful new way to beat their foes into submission. It has been a long time since I had actually gotten to play Street Fighter in any incarnation, but it's like riding a bike - you never completely forget. Once Ryu was in my control I immediately jump kicked, foot swept and fireballed. Ah yes, it's all coming back to me.

So what are Focus Attacks? Every character has access to these powerful moves, which are as simple as holding down the mid punch and kick buttons. A quick tap equals a simple attack. Charging the attack leads to a powerful attack that knocks down and stuns your opponent, opening him up to all sorts of juggle combos. Fully charging the attack makes the knock down and stun move completely unblockable, so once you hear the telltale charging sound you'd best either try to interrupt or get the hell out of the way.

Each character has their own Focus Attack with varying power and range - Ryu's is a powerful punch, Ken unleashes a spinning kick, Blanka swipes animalistically and masked wrestler El Fuerte is sure to annoy opponents with the longest range focus attack of them all.

Despite the early build, gameplay was fast and fluid on the Xbox 360, with each Focus Attack accompanied by a nifty ink-swath effect, as if the move were being drawn on screen. Very impressive.

I mainly played as Ryu, but towards the end of the session I decided to see what sort of moves the bulbous Rufus had up his sleeves. I don't remember exactly what his move was, however, transfixed by his undulating flab and the shock of golden hair spiking up from the crotch of his outfit.

"It's just his treasure trail," explained the Capcom rep, after the horrified look on my face was noticed. Gathering up my things I shook my head. "There's no treasure to be found there. Not for us." ...

Sony has told Eurogamer that Warhawk expansion Operation Fallen Star will be released on 28th August.

The third game add-on will add infantry jetpacks and centre around the Tau Crater, where a Chernovan warship crashed a very long time ago. Chernovans, then, are eager to salvage the wreckage, whereas rival faction the Eucadians want to steal it for themselves.

That setting will offer ten new battlefields for you and your friends to fight over.

There's no price for Fallen Star, but we expect the expansion to sell for GBP 3.99, which is the same as both Operation Omega Dawn and Operation Broken Mirror went for. Incidentally, both of those can be picked up for the combo cost of GBP 4.99.

Operation Fallen Star is yet to be dated, but we will let you know when we hear something.

Warhawk fans can also look forward to the new 1.5 patch on 27th August, introducing Trophies and a host of other improvements. ...
