Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH is to return to its musical roots in Q1 2009, with the advent of Rock Revolution – a stunning music-based party game – for PLAYSTATION®3, Xbox 360, Wii and Nintendo DS.

Konami is arguably the originator of the ‘rhythm action’ genre, with ground-breaking titles such as the ever-popular Dancing Stage series, plus classic music-themed titles as Karaoke Stage, Beatmania and Guitar Freaks. The publisher has now returned to the genre it pioneered with the most advanced music title for any format, with Rock Revolution boasting the most authentic drum kit imaginable, while bass and lead guitar accessories are also supported. The game has been designed and honed by real musicians, and features a wealth of innovative single-player and multi-player modes.

Rock Revolution for PLAYSTATION®3 and Xbox 360 showcases a wide-ranging set list with more than 40 tracks, wherein players are charged with matching on-screen instructions with the corresponding action on their instrument. Players can compete on and offline using one of 15 realistic avatars, while co-operative modes and band competitions up the ante as groups take on like-minded friends in a true battle of the bands. Alternatively, a ‘Rehearsal’ mode allows users to practice their favourite tracks, while a stunning ‘Studio’ mode allows users to freeform their own tracks and record them on the game’s exhaustive multi-track studio.

Konami has also ensured that the various versions of Rock Revolution are bespoke to their host format. The Wii game, for example, allows for Air Guitar and Air Drum play via the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers, while the motion-sensitive nature of the hardware can also reward the user for rock star-like behavior in pulling off scissor kicks or instrument abuse during the course of a performance. Up to four players are also supported in the game’s many multi-player options.

Likewise, the DS allows users to choose their instrument and use stylus gestures to match the on-screen instructions for the 20 tracks on offer. This system is also used to perform the aforementioned on stage moves, while the DS game also has customisable venues where props such as fireworks and laser shows can be unlocked to wow the crowd.

Rock Revolution will be released across Europe in Q1 2009, with further song packs to follow regularly on the PLAYSTATION®Network and Xbox Live for the PLAYSTATION®3 and Xbox 360 releases.

Disney Interactive Studios announced today its lineup of upcoming video games that will be on display at the E3 Media & Business Summit 2008, July 15-17. The lineup includes titles across the major console and handheld platforms that appeal to every member of the family, whether they are putting on the ultimate rock performance or pulling off death-defying aerial tricks while soaring over huge peaks on a four-wheel vehicle. The complete lineup of video games can be viewed during the show in Meeting Room # 309. The E3 Media & Business Summit is an invitation-only industry event.

“The notion that video games only appeal to a small subset of consumers is long gone, and the demand for titles that reach every member of the family is rapidly increasing,“ said Graham Hopper, executive vice president and general manager, Disney Interactive Studios. “Whether leveraging popular Disney franchises such as High School Musical and Disney Fairies, or through innovative new properties such as Ultimate Band and Pure, Disney Interactive Studios is the leader in delivering broad appeal entertainment.”

Disney Interactive Studios’ legacy of developing high quality video games stems from a long-standing commitment to grow its self-publishing business. During its 2007 calendar year, Disney Interactive Studios was the No.10 publisher across all platforms.

With a significant commitment to product development, the company is continuing its strategy to dedicate nearly 70 percent of its investment to develop titles that support major existing Disney franchises and properties. This approach has proven to be extremely successful in recent years, most notably for titles within the High School Musical franchise. During the 2007 holiday season, the company shipped more than 3.8 million copies of the widely popular High School Musical video games worldwide, achieving Top 20 positions on each published platform for the month of December 2007, according to NPD data. This holiday season, Disney Interactive Studios will deliver videogames that continue to support the High School Musical brand, as well as the new Disney Fairies and Disney Sing It franchises and Bolt, a game inspired by the upcoming animated feature film.

Disney Interactive Studios’ also continues to develop original video games that leverage the talent and expertise of its internal studios. This holiday season alone, Disney Interactive Studios will release three original titles for tweens and families across multiple genres and platforms. Fall Line Studio, the company’s Nintendo Platform-dedicated entity, is developing Ultimate Band, a music performance game for Wii™ home video game console and Nintendo DS™. The studio also created the innovative DGamer online community that launched earlier this year on Nintendo DS. Black Rock Studio, formerly Climax Racing, is working on the much anticipated action sports off-road game, Pure for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system, and Windows-based PC. Finally, Disney Interactive Studios will release the next installment in the popular anime-inspired Spectrobes franchise, Spectrobes: Beyond The Portals for Nintendo DS.

Progress on the Sega Dreamcast emulator for Windows.

Evolution will not boot (black screen right after SEGA logo) if there is less than 8 free blocks on Port A/Slot 1 VMU. It's not a bug in Makaron, it does exactly that on my Dreamcast too. Interestingly if you remove the VMU completly at this point it'll unfreeze and show a warning (about there not being enough space to save) and let you continue. On Makaron the only way to avoid this situation is to make sure there's enough space left on VMU before you launch the game.

If you get that Skies of Arcadia bug where it hangs once you leave the in-game menu, it's probably damaged FLASH. Unfortunately Makaron can damage this file as well - this is a bit complicated and so I'll spare you the boring details. Point is, if that happens you need to replace it with a good dump. I consider FLASH image safe if it's not been used with any emulator, so there's no chance it got corrupted. You might still need to set the date & time, mind you, but that's normal and should work from there on.
By the way - I'm always talking GDI images, unless otherwise noted. In this particular case I'd like to remind you people that there are various problems with Echelon's rip of SoA on Dreamcast, and that stays true for Makaron as well. It's not as bad, as Makaron GD emulation is still faster than the real hardware, but you should expects random lags (like those in intro sequence), maybe broken sound and even more graphics glitches.

I've been playing SoA for several hours (and not just me) and not a single hang Right now I'm trying to implement VMU sounds - if there's anyone out there who could explain to me where exactly SoA makes use of that, it'd be great. A save file would be even better.

And one more thing - if everything goes well there will be something interesing to show at the end of this week. Stay tuned

The interactive shopping list automatically saves ingredients from chosen recipes (either Jamie Oliver's or your own creations) and organises them by food type making trips to the supermarket a breeze. You can add any other items you want to the list using the keypad or text recognition.

In the spirit of Jamie Oliver's books and TV shows, the creative mode encourages players to use hundreds of hand-picked ingredients to create their own dishes. Up to 100 of your own unique recipes can be saved on the Nintendo DS to be recreated in the kitchen later and shared with friends and family using the Nintendo® Wi-Fi Connection.

The cooking games offer fun for everyone with a series of recipe challenges using the stylus to chop, stir and serve in a variety of virtual real-time 3D kitchen settings. "I really want to get as many people as I can cooking simple, tasty food, so I'm really excited about bringing a book's worth of my recipes to a game for the first time," said Jamie Oliver. "You can cook my recipes for real at home or in the game's 3D kitchens, but what's brilliant is that you can come up with your own recipes then share them with your mates and family over wi-fi. Lovely."
