Welcome to this week's Games Update, our weekly summary featuring all new product arrivals from the last seven days.

Plenty of interesting new releases came out this week. Senjou no Valkyria and its Limited Box are released by Sega for PlayStation3™. Become a hero in this unique RPG that combines tactical battles, fascinating characters and an epic storyline to create a believable world the players can fully immerse into.

Travel from the 1930s in Senjou no Valkyria back to medieval Europe in Rondo of Swords with your Nintendo DS™ to join another battle as a holy knight to rescue your princess from danger and protect your kingdom from tyranny. In your journey, learn about love, friendship, sadness and farewells to become a true leader that your people can depend on.

Joining the military is not the only way to become a hero. Maintaining justice and finding the truth behind layers of lies in a courtroom is another alternative.

The third installment in the Gyakuten Saiban series, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trials and Tribulations ends Phoenix Wrights's trilogy and in the fourth installment, another rookie lawyer, Housuke Odoroki is ready to make his debut as the new defender of justice.

You can also become a sports champion on the race course in Gran Turismo 5 Prologue on your PlayStation3™. Test out the full graphical potential of your third generation console and feel the exhilaration and the adrenaline running through your bloodstream as you drive your car pass the finishing line.

If you prefer something sneakier, join a ninja battle with Naruto: Shinobi Retsuden II. There are more playable characters and smoother graphics to go with slick ninja actions. For those who enjoy a taste of something more traditionally Japanese, we have Meccha! Taiko no Tatsujin DS: 7-tsu no Shima no Daibouken. You can defeat evil by being a Taiko drum!

After having enough fun by actually being the hero or a heroine, become their other half by dating them. SNK's Day's of Memories 2 features the fighters from King of Fighters and Fatal Fury as potential dates for you. With a combination of three games, this software has something for both the guys and the ladies.

Last but not least, some accessories for your consoles have arrived to make your gameplay an even more enjoyable experience: white Gamecube controllers, machine guns and Cyber Gun Attachment Vibration sets for Nintendo Wii™ and Rock Band Wireless Guitars for PlayStation2™ and PlayStation3™

The Wii Fit marketing bonanza has yet to begin proper in North America, but today we finally get a look at how Nintendo will be pitching the game in print ads, courtesy of the Wall Street Journal. Using the tag line "How will it move you?" expect to see Nintendo's attempts to appeal to women and moms—Nintendo's sales and marketing SVP Cammie Dunaway's words—show up only after the fitness game has been released.

We just hope no one is confused by the product imagery, mistaking the Wii Fit balance board for a prosthetic limb attachment on which you're supposed to balance your disembodied leg. Marketing isn't easy, folks!

Microsoft's Entertainment and Devices division saw revenue up 68 percent in its third fiscal quarter, thanks to "robust" demand for Xbox 360 consoles, the company announced today. The console sold 19 million units during the three months ending March 31st, a 74 percent increase over the same period a year ago.

Microsoft's Xbox 360 division was the $1.56 billion revenue standout amid a period of very little growth in the company's other businesses - Microsoft's whole-picture revenue was $14.45 billion, barely nudging the needle above the $14.4 billion it reported during the same period of 2007. Microsoft's overall profit actually slumped 11 percent.

The $14.45 billion performance for the company was less than analysts were expecting from Microsoft, but the company still promises to make expectations for its upcoming fiscal fourth quarter ranging from $15.5 billion to $15.8 billion.

Nintendo will launch the aptly-titled Nintendo Channel alongside WiiWare in the US on May 12, according to Wired. There will be no demos for WiiWare titles, but users will have the ability to share reviews of WiiWare titles if they've played them for at least an hour. It will also provide sortable lists of upcoming games.

While a far cry from The New York Times' "full game downloads" claim in January, DS owners can download demos that will then be sent to the portable and last until it's shut off. The Japanese version, launched in November 2007, also provides videos. The Nintendo Channel is coming to Europe on May 30.

On a trip to the Wired.com offices, Nintendo of America pres. Reggie Fils-Aime told the site that a Wii lasts about one hour in the wilds of retail and that makes him a little miffed. Most of the conversation dealt with Nintendo's FY08 profits, but Reggie did say that Nintendo of America is "passionately upset about the lack of product relative to demand."

Fils-Aime explains that production is determined by Japan and NoA does its best to remind the folks across the Pacific that there are "missed opportunities" when there isn't enough product. He further points out that North America receives 40% of the 1.8 million Wii consoles manufactured every month, and that NA is the only territory where Wii supply and demand don't match up.

With Nintendo announcing its global software tie ratio (attach rate) this morning, we were curious to know what the current software sales ratio was in the States for current-gen consoles. We contacted NPD, which gave us its latest figures. The data represents the amount of software sold per console divided by the number of consoles sold in the US.

Xbox 360: software sales ratio: 7.5
    Wii: software sales ratio: 5.3
    PS3: software sales ratio: 4.6
Just for kicks, we asked about the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP, which have the ratios of 4.7 and 4.2 respectively. The data shows a significant change since the last time we checked in half a year ago. The Xbox 360 has maintained its solid lead, but the Wii has rallied from 3.4 to 5.3. As always, we do have to take "software" top-seller Wii Play skewing the data into account, but Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Guitar Hero III also helped. The PS3 has ticked up one game from 3.5 to 4.6. The real takeaway from this data is that console owners are growing their software library no matter which console they own.
