Another year, another SOCOM title. Sure, this one has new maps and got prettier. But does this sequel make any real advances, or is the franchise showing its age?

Yahoo! Games (90/100) thinks SOCOM goes above and beyond what a handheld game should do: "In terms of pacing, community, and great gunplay, this is the closest you'll get to a handheld Counter-Strike. And as far as handheld shooters go, this is as good as it gets."

GameDaily (80/100) is shocked by the remarkable AI: "Sony once again proves that a handheld version of the long-running action game series can work just as well as the console editions. The multiplayer is as strong as expected, with up to sixteen players being able to jump in and enjoy three different games. But the real shocker is how stacked the single player experience is... The presentation and AI on enemy soldiers is also worth noting as they are both much improved and quite impressive."

Game Informer (75/100) still doesn't like the controls, but thinks the PSP game is superior to its PS2 counterpart: "Oddly enough, the single-player campaign is still more enjoyable than its PS2 brother. At the very least this does a better job of walking you through the first level and teaching you the ropes... But FTB's saving grace is its multiplayer, the only real reason to play this game. A lot of the single player problems evaporate when you go online and sample any of the eight multiplayer modes FTB 2 has to offer."
It doesn't appear as if Fireteam Bravo 2 offers any significant advances to the franchise. However, the critics generally agree that it'll give you an experience that's unparalleled in handheld gaming. You can dig that right? The game's now available in stores. ...

    TyRaNiD posted this news/release:

Considering the lack of new recently thought I would release a version of PRXTool. I've put up a win32 build (link) as some people always seem to have trouble on that platform

So what is new? Well I've added a reasonably comprehensive and tweakable disassembly engine, party cause I felt pspdasm just didn't seem to do the job properly for various reasons. When used with PRXes it will resolve almost every reference in the code, printing strings inline if they point to that and obviously with libdoc it will resolve function imports and export etc. Oh and I also added preliminary variable import support

    Have fun.

Smealum has released an awesome looking Doom Type game for the Nintendo DS, heres the full translated info:

    Presentation:
Ben then it is simple, I launched out in the creation of a FPS… Technically, it is already quite advanced, even if it misses things enormously and that it is buggé enough (aaaaaah, the collisions….) the bases are there (for example, the collisions are not brilliant but functional: one cannot completely in no case to cross a wall, it is already that ).
[B] Attention, I did not find an emulator which makes turn the play at 100% (finally, free at least, it is possible that the paying version of no$gba makes it turn…). For example: DSmume does not post that the weapon and the sky, but not the 3D. Dualis, it is the opposite, which 3D (but well at least), but not the weapon nor sky…
Screen Ci below was carried out besides by me even via a software of edition of images; it badly does not miss things compared to the last version… (the true play is better )

    History:
8/11/2006: First version “general public” (of the younger versions were distributed on IRC, but the project was not enough “mature” “to be announced” openly).

    How to play:
    Ca, it is rather traditional:
    - D-PAD or ABXY to move (front, back, strafe left and right)
    - Stylet to aim
    - R or L to draw and open/close doors

    Other information:
Note that although certain places resemble doors, it is not, they are téléporteurs, it is for that which you will move without same having to press on R if you return inside
Also, if you are really made shit, you can publish the level via a hexadecimal editor (is not this step Refix? ). Indeed, the level is not “hardware coded”: it is contained in a file txt which is inclu in the Romanian one at the compile time. Thanks to that, an editor of level will be very simple to make. To tell the truth, I made the maps play under notepad

The localized version of Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan! has finally hit our shores and, as Elite Beat Agents, the player is charged with maintaining the super-cool, dressed-in-black stylings of the crew as they bust the most elite beats and kick it to save those in need. Apparently, if the critics are to be believed, in its overhaul from Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan! to Elite Beat Agents, they lost a little something, however reviews generally say the game is worth owning.

Gamespot - 89%: "Though there isn't much competition, Elite Beat Agents is easily the best rhythm game available for the Nintendo DS, and for that matter, it's easily one of the most randomly addictive experiences on the platform. The idea of just tapping circles in time with music while dudes in suits dance doesn't sound like much on paper, but the insane presentational components and enjoyable challenge the game puts forth do a lot to bring the whole experience together into something extremely playable. Those without a penchant for the unabashedly bizarre might find Elite Beat Agents to be a bit too much, but just about anyone else with a DS would do well to try this one out."
IGN - 95%: "Westerners who've played the original Osu! Tatake! Oendan! might end up a little disappointed that the Nintendo of America version might lack the kitschy Japanese flavor with its bandana-adorned personal cheerleaders and incomprehensible J-pop tunes accomodating the quirky, lost-in-translation stories. But even with new characters, popular Western tunes, and plots that actually make sense, Elite Beat Agents retains the awesome, addictive gameplay core. And let's be honest: the Elite Beat Agents are too cool for school and could kick those pansy bathrobe-wearing cheerleaders' asses any day of the week."

1UP - 90%: "Import-geek protestations notwithstanding, Elite Beat Agents is here, and it deserves to be in every DS owner's library. Very few games can truly claim to be for all players of all ages, and this is one of them. With a delirious mix of slapstick humor, comic storytelling, infectious music, and tons of replayability, Elite Beat Agents is one of the best music-oriented games to date and stands among the cream of the DS's impressive library. Don't miss it." ...

I recently went to the Sneaker Pimps convention down in Miami and i came across what seemed to me the most interesting shoe I've ever seen. This shoe is actually a NES Mattel Version molded into a shoe. I happened to speak to the maker of this shoe and he told me that it actually plays the games!!!! He said its the only known video game shoe ever made.

The high season for the game industry is coming _ Christmas and the New Year. Game developers and distributors are ready to unveil blockbuster games, filling the markets with new games and giving gamers more choices.

Microsoft seems to be even busier this season with the release of new games for Xbox 360 and also for the preparation of the battle with other new consoles _ PlayStation3 of Sony and Wii of Nintendo _ which launches are due from in November.

``We need to act like a leader in order to be a leader,¡¯¡¯ Tae Lee, global marketing manager of Microsoft, told The Korea Times last week. ``We¡¯re now heavily investing in new exclusive games on the platform with a lot of online features, just trying to win the hearts and minds of gamers.¡¯¡¯

Lee visited Seoul last week to promote the upcoming games along with his colleague Hees Kyung, global product manager of Microsoft. The two Korean-Americans, who now work at the headquarters in the United States, came here with the robust lineup of upcoming blockbuster titles, and their visit to Seoul was part of the Asian promotional tour.

Tae Lee, left, global marketing manager of Microsoft, and Hees Kyung, global product manager, visited Seoul last week to promote upcoming games on Xbox 360.
The launch titles include strategy action game ``Gears of War¡¯¡¯ due on Nov. 10, simulation game ``Viva Pinata¡¯¡¯ on Nov. 17, role-playing game ``Blue Dragon¡¯¡¯ on Dec. 7, with a fully localized version due in March, the first-person-shooting game ``Crackdown,¡¯¡¯ and racing game ``Forza Motor Sports 2¡¯¡¯ due in the early 2007.
At first glance, it is obvious that Microsoft made an effort to release games in diversified genres. It is largely attributed to the fact that their first console Xbox was a commercial flop in Asia mainly because it did not provide enough games appealing to players in the region.

In the past, they had only one strategy to tap foreign markets, but they are now customizing approaches depending on the characteristics of each different market and gamer, which is the reason that they will release many exclusive games such as ``Blue Dragon¡¯¡¯ and ``Viva Pinata¡¯¡¯ for Asian gamers, Lee said.

``At the end of 2006, we¡¯re planning to sell more than 10 million consoles. And when we hit that goal, I think that¡¯s when we reach the mass market. With 10 million console owners out there, it¡¯s going to spread much quicker and the publishers are going to be much more willing to develop more games on the platform,¡¯¡¯ Lee said.

Lee agreed that the Korean game market has been somehow neglected because it is too small compared to others in the U.S. and Japan and it is dominated by online games, but he believed that the Korean market has huge potential.

``Personally, I¡¯ve been pushing the Korean region as one of the biggest markets for us. Per capita, a Korean spends more money on entertainment than any other country in the world. In terms of online gaming, consumers spend more money toward that,¡¯¡¯ Lee said.

As many start to appreciate other types of games in Korea, he thinks Xbox 360 can be very successful. They will release more exclusive games in the future, and many of them will also be developed by Korean or Japanese companies to add Asian touches and flavors for appeal, he said. ...
