Nintendo has tightened its grip on the Japanese video game sales charts even further this week, with seven of the top ten titles being on the Nintendo DS and an eighth on the Game Boy Advance – all but one published by Nintendo themselves.

Some of the titles crowding the top spots include new cooking simulator Shaberu! DS Oryouri Navi, the latest version of Tamagotchi Connection, and the ever-present Animal Crossing: Wild World. In fact, nineteen of the top thirty placed titles are also Nintendo DS games.

Overall though, sales have slipped slightly again this week, with a paucity of new releases in advance of the release of Final Fantasy III next week. The only new title in the top ten is the latest in Daito Giken’s long running series of Pachi-Slot simulators, which follows the success of Sega’s Fist of the North Star license in previous weeks.

Of greatest interest this week are the hardware figures, which have seen sales for the Nintendo DS slip by over 122,000 to just 75,207 units. Although stock of the console did appear to be improving last week, DS shortages have again become severe, leading to the drop.

Sales for other formats remained static, with the PSP at 41,535 units and the PlayStation 2 on 26,833. The Game Boy Advance family of consoles sold 6,109 units, the Xbox 360 a still flaccid 1,493, and the GameCube 922. ...

MyUAE is a Palm OS (and works on Tapwave Zodiac) port of E-UAE, the Amiga emulator. MyUAE is written in C and needs CodeWarrior to compile. It needs PalmOS 5.0 or better and a fast processor. MyUAE supports sound, a virtual keyboard and a configurable button assignment.

To date, Michael Pachter, analyst at Wedbush Morgan Securities, has made some of the juicier comments on the emerging PlayStation 3 to come from the financial sector, claiming that in real-terms, the PlayStation 3 shares much of its commercial DNA with the Xbox 360.

"PS3 will sell out at $499. It may sound like a lot of money but is certainly not significantly more in inflation-adjusted dollars than the PS1 at $300 in 1995. The "cheap" PS3 and the "expensive" 360 are identical in all respects, save for the Blu-ray drive. Both have similar processors, 20GB hard drives, and DVI cable interfaces that will support 720p high definition," Pacter told Gamespot.

Indeed, Pacter believes the only difference lies in the pricing options for the consoles' high-definition movie platforms. "The difference in price is $100, so if you like Sony more and want a relatively inexpensive option to buy into high-definition movies, the cost is probably justified. In other words, consumers will compare the $499 PS3 to the $399 Xbox 360 and will likely decide based upon the potential selection of software (Japanese, US, and European for Sony, US and European for Microsoft), plus their assessment of the likely winner in the format war. If Blu-ray is the standard, the price differential will hold." ...

First the PSP got handheld to TV adapters and now a nearly a year later the DS is getting them too. There are currently two different DS to TV adapters in the works. The first requires players to open up their DS and hardwire the adaptor into the console. Once installation is complete the DS can be plugged into a TV via RCA cables and both screens will be on the TV. The second adaptor is basically a camera with mirrors that straps to the top DS screen. It requires no installation, but it only enlarges the top screen. If you really want to play your DS games on the big screen forget the external adapter. It’s nearly useless since it only displays one screen and it makes the DS heavier. The internal adapter looks like it has decent quality from the single picture below, but do gamers really want to open up their DSes just to play Metroid Prime Hunters on a larger display?
