    Joey posted this news:

The final release (at least by me) of the gp2x-gpe, a port of the GPE palmtop environment to the GP2X is out! This release includes pretty much everything except the kitchen sink. AbiWord, Evince, Gaim, Dillo, Gnumeric, XChat, The GIMP, GpsDrive, GCC are included along with all the standard GPE applications.

Almost everything is working pretty smoothly and there has been some speed increases, most notably the new Xorg server patched by Orkie and compiled under OpenEmbedded.

If anyone is interested in taking up this project please get in touch with me. I just don’t have enough time to carry this on by myself with work and other commitments.

Please let me know if you come across any issues and I’ll do my best to help you out.

New release of the port of the best Snes emulator for the Xbox, heres whats new:

    Version 2.6:

Added support for enabling/disabling all 4 background layers

Added support for enabling/disabling the sprite layer

Added support for enabling/disabling all 8 sound channels.

    Version 2.5:

Added a higher quality Zelda animation (higher resolution and more frames) to the Zelda skin

Fixed a bug that was causing garbage to be written to the ZsnexBox.ini. Hopefully this will fix the problem some people were getting with changing the skin.

Fixed a savestate loading bug that would cause a crash in Super Mario Kart and Pilotwings.

Added skin previews for the skin selection menu.

    Tweaked the GUi a little.

    Updated the FAQ

Added the ability to specify exactly how many frames the rombrowser animation is. This can only be set in the ini and not in the GUI. Each skin will only load the exact amount of frames specified. This cuts down on the memory usage for the Metroid and Zelda skins. Animations up to 18 frames are supported.

    Note:
There may be an issue (Xbox lockup) loading DSP1 (Super Mario kart, Pilotwings, etc...) savestates generated in previous versions of ZsnexBox

A memo sent to UK Virgin megastores has been "leaked" onto the internet. Purportedly, Nintendo will be contacting selected stores today to discuss installing Wii countdown clocks. That doesn't mean the release date will be known tomorrow, though -- it just means, if this leak is to be believed, that Nintendo will be contacting stores about the installation, which could occur at a later date.

Nintendo's "Wii Prove our Promise" presentation at the Leipzig Games Convention will take place early August 23rd (4:15 a.m. EST). With no Space World and a promise to reveal launch details by the end of September, this seems like the likely platform for announcements.

And, if this memo is true, the clocks will likely be installed the same day, or earlier and then activated. Still, these "leaked memos" do nothing but incite fanboyism and instill generally false hope. The rumor derived from a post by an administrator on the Nintendo Wii Chat forum and quickly made its way to the top of Digg's gaming section. Don't get too caught up in the hype; while countdown clocks would be a smart marketing move, these rumors rarely work out.

The memo has been transcribed below.

    Nintendo Wii Countdown Clocks

As the launch of the Nintendo Wii approaches please be aware that your store will be receiving a Nintendo Wii Countdown Clock to help instore activity and pre-awareness.

Nintendo will be contacting your store to arrange the installation of the countdown clocks from the 14th August.

Please see below for the list of stores receiving the clocks.

In the ultimate example of cooperative gameplay, new DS game Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team - due out this November - will let your DS-laden pals link up with your game to bring you back to life. And all the while you'll be playing as one of your favourite Pokemon.

The game's Rescue mode produces a password whenever you fail to complete a dungeon. This password can then be given to a pal who can enter your game using DS's wireless connectivity and rescue you from the dungeon, so allowing you to play the game from that point rather than the last save point.

This new mode is also possible for the GBA version of the game, called Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team, by using the GBA link cable.

Both games will break new ground for Pokemon titles as this time you will be playing as a Pokemon rather than a trainer. Players will take a personality test at the start of the game and, depending on the results, will become one of 16 playable Pokemon, including such greats as Pikachu, Charmander, Squirtle and Bulbasaur.

Paris-headquartered mobile games publisher Gameloft has announced the signing of a new multi-year, multiple title deal with Touchstone Television, for the development, publishing and distribution of mobile games based on two cult TV series.

Scheduled for release early in 2007, Gameloft will be bringing the mystery and drama of J.J. Abrams' Lost to the mobile platform. Lost details the exploits of a group of strangers thrust together and fighting for survival on a strange and dangerous island; characters are haunted by the events of their past lives and must strive to unravel the secrets of their subconscious and those of their fellow survivors.

Desperate Housewives is the second television property secured under the terms of the new deal. A huge hit in both the US and Europe, the show focuses on the darker side of suburban life, adding a little humour and intrigue to the complex relationships of family and friends in middle America.

Gameloft president Michel Guillemot commented: "Gameloft is proud to partner with ABC Entertainment and Touchstone Television to bring the popular Desperate Housewives and Lost series to mobile gamers. We are excited to develop and deliver games based on these shows to over 1 billion mobile users worldwide."

"Both Lost and Desperate Housewives have loyal and dedicated fans, and we are excited to be able to bring them more ways to interact and engage with their favourite shows and characters," added Bruce Gersh, ABC Entertainment and Touchstone Television's SVP, business development.

"We look forward to working together with Gameloft to develop games that capture the defining essence of each show." ...

A Yoshi's Island 2 packshot unearthed by Kotaku suggests that the forthcoming platform sequel will support Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection multiplayer.

In Yoshi's Island, the titular dino and his pals had to carry baby Mario and Luigi to safety, and the sequel already promises babies Mario, Donkey Kong and Peach - each of with imbues Yoshi with unique powers - but the box-art also quite clearly shows Wario and Bowser too.

Quite what role those two will play (the press bumf only mentions Yoshi and "three young superstars") and what form the multiplayer will take remains to be seen, but not for long, since the game's due out on November 13th in the US and on December 1st in the UK.
