My DC will not read CDRs
I do in fact have a December 2000 DC, so maybe it's the system's fault and not anything I'm doing wrong with burning the discs?

Wow, i thought all dc systems can play cd's. I think i remember hearing a rumor about it in the past, but i didnt know it was true. You might can find a use dc at ebgames, so do some calling around.

Did you try burning an image from http://www.DCEvolution.net ?
Download, unRAR the file and burn the CDI with Alcohol120% in TAO mode.
