i will not be getting one.
In all honesty, I'll be disappointed if all Nintendo does is allow us to play old ROMs on the Rev. Though that's okay, but that should be just the beginning.
Now, if I can play classic games in multiplayer over the Internet (such as Toe Jam & Earl with a friend in another state), that would be great. If they add new levels to classic games (i.e., new levels for the original SMB or new worlds for classic Zelda games), that's good too. If they allow us to play old prototypes that were never released, that's very cool.
And even cooler would be for Nintendo to release NES and SNES development kits that allow anyone to create new ROMs and submit them to Nintendo for possible distribution over their network. Nintendo could have contests with prizes for the winners and such, like Lik-Sang and others have done in the past. It would be a way to continually add new classic gaming content to their system without devoting any of Nintendo's own development resources to it.
If Nintendo approaches the Rev's retro content with new ideas and ingeniuity, it could be the greatest game system ever created. If they just say, "here's just a bunch of old games you can play" and leave it at that, then it'll be a major disappointment and one of the saddest lost opportunties in gaming history.
Hopefully, Nintendo has the vision to do this right.
i will not be getting one.
I will be getting one. personally Id rather pay for these games and have them on a new sexy console. Plus this is just a little addition nintendo will be adding.. it isnt like they arnt going to have Revolution games. PSP is great and all... but nintendo will forever have a special place in my heart (along with turbo graphics 16 and gen)
I don't know. I like the idea of official emulators on a system, but I hate the idea of having to pay for roms that I already own the originals for. That's just not going to happen. On the other hand though, having people pay for the roms to use on this system, if done at the right price, would be a reasonable response to all those people out there that feel they must download every game regardless of whether they own the original or not.
YAR!! woot finaly. i thought it said it had a slot for the CARTRIGES of those systems. that would be cool cuz i gots lots of nes games.
Um, pardon me for saying, but wtf does Nintendo's exploitation of ancient software have to do with Homebrew??? They used to give away these games FOR FREE with their new games. For instance, the *ORIGINAL* Animal Crossing had lots of old Nintendo games hidden inside of it. Just look at Animal Crossing for the DS, *NO OLD GAMES*! Now they charge $20 just to play *ONE* old game on the GBA! That's as much as the Game cost when it first came out!!!
So, not only does this have *NOTHING* to do with Homebrew, in any WAY, SHAPE, or FORM! But this is a TOTAL RIP OFF!!!!! These games are old, they made their money, they should be free and open to everybody. We have a little something in America called the Public Domain, and that's were old games should be!
Finally, after years of waiting and the efforts of many fans to keep these old games from passing away into digital extinction, we were just starting to get the socially excepted notion that after 5 to 10 years, old games should be free to everybody. This is the digital age, software should pass into the public domain much quicker then Music, Movies, or Literature. And then this Retro-Gaming crazy hits Japan, Nintendo realizes they can sell old games for a *MINT*, and suddenly the old bones of long dead software are getting pulled from their graves and made to dance again. THIS IS HORRIBLE!
Not only is this stealing what should be free culture assets from the public domain, but it's also helping to KILL OFF new games that should be getting made right now! After all, why make new games when you can just cannibalize the old games of the past! Not only is this *NOT* Homebrew, it's Anti-Homebrew! It's killing off new games, it's only making money for publishers (not the oringal authors!), and it in no way helps to promote future development!
This is what Public Domain is all about, promoting future development by retiring old intellectual properties so that new ones can be made. But all around the world, major companies are trying to stomp that out so they can mine the past and cheat modern artists, writers, and coders out of their future earnings. If this keeps up, you can kiss alot of current video game makers good bye!
Support future game developers, *DON'T* pay for old games! Buy some NEW ONES!
i agree. big time. stuff thats that old should not cost anything. they (nintendo) should poffit from the new games, as old geezers like us will be the only one's playing the old games.Originally Posted by Illegal Machine

My one question about n64 emulation is, where the hell is the c stick/buttons?
