Default Virtual Game Maker DS 0.05a

Globoeil has released Virtual Game Maker DS - You can now have a go at making your own games for the Nintendo DS, heres the details:

The first beta-version of VGMDS 0.05a is out!
This version isn't really develloped, but it shows the design and simplification-oriented way of the project. This is still in development and it isn't as good as it sounds just yet!

Actually, you can't read/save any game/map. There is just a bug when you don't scroll elements (if clicked element and showed element don't correspond, just scroll a bit the defilment bar). There is no map, just a screen, and no events.

    Advantages?

You don't need a PC to edit the game and play just after!
Also the walk program was improved (help-driving, you are not blocked by a pixel of an element). And actually you can configure yourself object priority!!
But this version show a small windows opened of the world of free-esay-game-making!

Oh man! I really hope this will eventually let me play RPG Maker games... I don't think it will, but it looks so similar that it could be a possibility.

All of the images are ripped directly from RPG Maker 2000. Wouldn't that mean you are distributing copyrighted material which is illegal?

Download a few RPG Maker games from http://www.gamingw.net . 95% of them use material from SNES games and such, and they're not illegal. Even some homebrew DS games like "Duck Hunt" and "Sonic Ball" which have been posted here use sprites and sounds from the actual games... This is the same exact thing.

I see some irony here somewhere...

Wrong. Taking copyrighted material from a game and distributing it in a package (in this case a homebrew game) without permission is illegal.

He's not distributing the material, he's distributing something that uses the material. How many people do you think have used that same exact chipset in RPGs they've made and distributed (which is what it was made for)? When it's encluded in RPGs, it comes as a simple .BMP or .PNG along with every other RTP Chipset (as they are required). In this homebrew, you would have to find a way to rip the .BMP/PNG from the .nds file... Which one sounds worse? And it's not even a direct rip, as some of it is obviously different.

Check your sources and go flame some ROM websites if you're mad about piracy...

Are you seriously that stupid? It COMES WITH IT. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF IT'S INCOPORATED INTO THE FILE, IT'S STILL DISTRIBUTION.

Sorry, that's wrong. The games are meant to be distributed without the chipsets, the computer must have the RTP installed for it to run. Distributing the game along with the chipsets is not what it was originally allowed to do.

The difference between here and ROM sites is that they don't outright claim it's legal to download those games. Here they do, despite the fact that they have numerously stated they won't help you with piracy.
