Jap firmware on a US psp doesnt give you errors. It works fine. Only problem is the US firmware is the new Jap firmware so it will already be installed.
make sure you got the power adapter plugged into the PSP at the same time aswell - it requests it when you load it up
sorted it, i had called the folder "updates" and it didnt work, removed the file and renamed folder "UPDATE" and it worked first time. cheers peeps

has anyone tried portscanning the psp while its downloading the firmware?
peanut, you just got way to technical for me dude!!!
Ok buddy I got the same error and here is what I did.
1. Format my memory card using the PSP under system settings.
2. Go to www.sony.com and download the patch.
http://www.us.playstation.com/PSP.as.../pcUpdate.html
3. Saved the patch in the PC, not in the memory card directly (Im using Memory stick DUO to connect it to my VAIO)
4. Move the file to the card.
5. Insert the memory card into my PSP.
6. Follow all the recommendations, try again and voilá.
Hope this helps.
