    News/release from Super Sheep:

This is my first program I have released on PSP.

This program as its name suggests attempts to be a Universal Theme Flasher. My aim is to make switching between themes as easy as possible.

I noticed many people have trouble installing flash0 themes and are not sure what to do. Most of my friends also screwed up their firmware when installing themes aswell so I wrote this flasher for this reason (and to refresh my memory :P)

The supported firmwares are 3.90, 3.80, 3.71 and 3.52. I didn't do the earlier firmware as I dont believe many people use at all.

Ok so onto the main deal.

The flasher uses configuration files to flash themes and give details about the theme (name, author, firmware etc)

Combine this with security checks and a hardcoded list of all the files then you have some pretty good security. Themes should be in a zip archive with a configuration file named "theme.conf".

Themes should be put into a folder called THEMES in directory with the Eboot.pbp. (such as PSP/GAME/UTF/THEMES)

When you first boot you will get a menu screen like this:

Here you choose the theme you are going to flash. In my case I shall choose ClearXMB Black.

    Press X.
It will say something about extracting a configuration file. It will be quick then you will get another menu looking a little like this:

I recommend you backup your current theme first so you can have something to revert to.
If you have or just dont want to then click Install theme.

It will do the rest for you.

    Here are screens:

I've also include a sample theme.conf so thememakers can easily make their themes usable by UTF.
    Like always read the readme.

I know flashers are outdated now and flash0 usb > UTF but i'm sure someone will benefit from this.

    Credits to
    Davee - Programmer of UTF
Anonymous Tipster - I modified his zip extraction code
    A_n00b - I modified his confParser

Tons of people were complaining that people were cheating in Mario Kart Wii’s Time Trial records. I didn’t know how quickly Nintendo would act, and I am quite surprised to find out that they have already taken steps to solve the problem. According to multiple readers, cheaters have had records deleted, and the cheating methods have been blocked. Nintendo wins this round, let’s see what happens from here on out!

The Wii Scene is awesome these days and heres the 3rd different version of the SNES9X emulator for the Nintendo Wii:

"deletenop recompiled version 0.0.9 with forced PAL 50 mode. This fixes the red screen problem when using an RGB cable on a PAL Wii. Apparently it also fixes the speed problem with PAL roms. "

A Wii chipping factory has been tracked down to fraudsters in Leicestershire. The Wii is the nation’s favourite family console – so much so that the Japanese corporation hasn’t been able to keep up with UK demand for not one but two Christmases! But an undercover sting by Leicestershire’s Trading Standards Department backed by the games industry’s own crime unit unveiled a counterfeit plot potentially worth £millions.

As a result of enquiries made by TSD officers and investigators from ELSPA, the trade body for the country’s major games publishers, a home was raided in the Coalville area of Leicestershire this week. The raid, which was undertaken by Leicestershire TSD and police, turned up vital evidence suggesting the non-descript home actually housed sophisticated counterfeiting apparatus – including an industrial unit to churn out rogue console chips. At least two people have so far been arrested for their part in the ‘fraud factory’. More than 2,000 counterfeit chips, were recovered from the raid. These consisted mostly of Wii console chips although some were for Xbox 360 and PlayStation2 consoles. A number of consoles were also seized. After the planned trial, all the rogue chips will be destroyed – if only to avoid disappointment amongst the nation’s competitive children and parents.

A Nintendo insider said: “A chipped Wii might sound cool but it is useless. The latest Wii extravaganza, seeing Mario back in a racer at the front of the pack, Mario Kart Wii, would be useless on a chipped Wii. You’ll never get the interaction or support when it all unravels. You’d have to be pretty stupid to think online gaming won’t be easily log-able in such digital days! Chip it and you brick it, as we say around the office. There is only one real Wii experience – and it doesn’t come chipped!”

Following the crack-down, visitors to the offending website are currently greeted with this ominous message: “The site is currently down for maintenance. Normal service will resume shortly, sorry for the inconvenience.” Michael Rawlinson from ELSPA said: “Fraud can cost Internet companies a lot more than just its visitors. Our investigators are out in force working with Trading Standards Departments across the land combing everything from Sunday car-boot sales to auction websites 24/7 seeking-out counterfeiters. The message from the nation’s favourite games publishers is simple, fraudsters can run but they can no longer hide!”

John Hillier, who heads ELSPA’s crime unit, said: “Piracy costs the games industry dear – just like that of any other entertainment industry. Making good and inventive games is an expensive and creative process, with some titles today costing £20m or more to develop. To make a quality title involves teams of highly skilled professionals, from programmers and graphic artists to voice actors and musicians. When a pirate sells illegally-copied games they undermine the viability of our industry and in turn that threatens jobs.”

Paul Jackson, Director General of ELSPA, added: “We would like to thank Leicestershire’s Trading Standards Department, and Police for all their efforts during this investigation. We have now stepped up our campaign against thieves of games software and others who attempt to flout intellectual property rights of our members. We have sophisticated tracking techniques at our disposal these days and as my colleague put it, the cyber-criminals can run but they can no longer hide!” ...

A thief stole more than £2,000 worth of Nintendo Wii games from Tesco in Bexhill.
James Hubbard, 27, was spotted putting the items in a box before walking out and making off in a car.

Prosecutor Mark Kateley said: "The defendant filled up the box with around 65 games worth just over £2,000.

"At some point he left the box in the store, went outside and spoke to another individual and went back inside.

"Later he left the shop with the box of items without paying for them.

"Security staff ran after him and he dropped the box and the property was recovered.

"The defendant made off in a Vauxhall Vectra. Police arrested him later at home."

Hubbard, of Mountfield Road, Hampden Park, appeared before Hastings magistrates on Thursday and pleaded guilty to the theft which happened on January 26.

He also admitted a separate theft which took place on January 9 at the same store in which he stole up to 20 similar items worth more than £400.

Magistrates adjourned the case until May 6 so pre-sentence reports could be drawn up.

Hubbard must appear before Eastbourne magistrates on that date.
