Sales of Sony's PlayStation 3 have doubled in Japan, with data from Media Create showing that the console has shifted 28,829 units for the week ended July 29, compared to just over 12,000 for the previous week.

Sales of Nintendo's Wii and DS have dropped for the same period, although the consoles continue to record strong numbers with over 77,000 units and 35,000 units, respectively.

The PSP enjoyed a climb in sales also, shifting over 35,000 units compared to 32,00 the week before, and the PlayStation 2 managed almost 12,000 units.

Microsoft's Xbox 360 continue to perform poorly in the region, selling just under 4000 units for the same week period.

This week saw an influx of new software titles for the major formats in the region, with Wii, PS3 and DS games shaking up the top ten. ...

Is this why the new PSP has the 32MB Upgrade?, why the original PSP cant run it is a mystery but its sad news for those of us who dont want to upgrade to a newer version of the PSP.

    News/release from Acehack:

-This is a new windows program that will allow you to easily install PRX's for Firmware with the ability to load plugins.
    -You will need .NET 2.0
-It's currently in it's infant stages. I just started writing this yesterday
-It will allow you to selected from Prxs that are in the applications Prx folder
-It will not overwrite the game.txt, vsh.txt, etc... Just add to it.
-It will autodetect your playstation drive
-Please let me know of any bugs or enhancements you would like to see [email protected]
-Sorry for taking so long to release my first PSP Related application but I've only had my PSP for about a Week
-But you may have seen my work if you have a Xbox1 I created a Xbox1 tool a while back called PreXboxCopyTool.

    ---Future Plans---
-Add ability to uninstall Prx's (Really an entire managment of them instead of just an install)
-Add ability for homebrew software too not just prxs
-Do not allow to many prxs in the ini
-Add ability to enable\disable prxs using the config.bin file
    -Plus many more

    ---Possible Other Projects---
-If CWCheat ever gets the USB fixed in 3.51 - 3.52 for non POPS games I would like to create a new application. This appliation will be for windows and will allow very advanced cheat code searching. It will have all the search features of CWCheat but be in windows using the CWCheat dump files. I know CWCheat already has a windows app but it's horrible to use and takes forever. This one will be much like the cheat menu built in and autodetect new dumps. It will also have some advance search features not avialible in CWCheat like Percentage Search. Also this would allow for immediate updating of CWCheat database when new codes are found.

    ---Suggestions---
-Please send any suggestions to bugs to [email protected]
-This is the first readme I've ever created so if you have any suggestions I would appreciate those also. Thanks.

    today I release v1.5

with it you can change the displayed name under systemsettings
at the moment you need the newest prxDecrypter, to decrypt your vshctrl.prx manually
(maybe I will implement it, but is the prxDecrypter source public?)

    please read ReadMe, before using
i have no responsibility if you brick your PSP

Midway's CEO David Zucker has told GamesIndustry.biz that he's still concerned about sales of the PlayStation 3, but thinks the recently announced USD 100 price cut will certainly help the console in the short term.

However, worries over the uptake of the PS3 aren't enough to put Midway off supporting the luxury console, with Unreal Tournament 3 exclusive to the machine this year, and forthcoming action game Stranglehold set to feature a full-length movie on the Blu-ray game disc.

"We would not be the only publisher to tell you that we're a little concerned about the take-up of the PS3," said Zucker, in an interview published today.

"Anytime you get a hundred dollar price on hardware it will improve sales. The question is, is it enough? Will there be more?"

The Unreal Tournament 3 deal is just one way that Midway is backing the PS3, and it's confident it's a title that will make a big impact on the home console when released in November.

"When you go back to last year's E3, one of the first titles that were shown on Sony's PS3 was Unreal Tournament. So, it has always been a big title for the PS3," he said. ...

Hide away that soldering iron, Nintendo is on to you crazy kids. The company has issued a press release "in support of" recent raids by US Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agents, which executed 32 search warrants in 16 states to weed out those responsible for the distribution of "illegal modification chips." Apparently this is the largest enforcement action taken against video game piracy, and Nintendo has been working hand in hand with the Department of Homeland Security to pull it off. Since April, Nintendo claims to have seized more than 91,000 counterfeit (er, "backup") Wii discs globally. Of course, the whole issue of whether mod chips, when used harmlessly to enable homebrew and backups, should be illegal in the first place is still a sticky issue (the DMCA seems to frown on the idea), but it looks like if you are indeed trading in the illicit stuff, Nintendo and the fuzz are hoping to track you down for a little chat. ...
