In the the December issue of Popular Science, which will go on newsstands November 15, the Xbox 360 is reported to have taken top honors (that is, the Grand Award) for the Best of What’s New in Home Entertainment, one of twelve different categories considered.

“The first of the next-generation gaming consoles, the new Xbox 360 is not just about games — the 360 is poised to take over the living room as well. The 360 is the first Media Center extender that receives and plays back HDTV from Media Center PCs, and it comes with a free lifetime subscription to the Xbox Live online service.”

According to the editor: “The Best of What’s New awards honor innovations that affect the way we live today and change the way we think about the future.” Despite lacking a qualifier regarding the subscription basis for Live multiplayer support, we’re sure MS must be pleased by the accolade. ...

Nintendo has launched NintendoWiFi.com to provide DS gamers with all the information needed to get online with the dual-screened handheld.

The site will have forums, technical support, hotspot lists and FAQs to make sure playing online with your DS is as painless as possible. There will also be a section where high scores and fastest times can be posted, so you can rate yourself against the best in the world.

As we revealed last week, Nintendo will be launching its UK DS WiFi support at the end of the month and the service will allow you to play games like Mario Kart with DS users right across the globe.

Currently only the US part of the site is live but the UK will soon have its own localised area with all the relevant information. There's no confirmed date as to when this will go live but, rest-assured, it will be up and running in time for the 18 November UK DS WiFi launch.

It's a well-known fact that Xbox 360 will be able to stream music from iPod MP3 players on its "dashboard" front-end and to provide background music for games, but what's less well-known is that the next-generation console will be unable to play songs purchased from Apple's iTunes Music Store.

That's according to Microsoft's Jeff Henshaw, who told CNET News.com that because of the digital-rights-management (DRM) software in iPod, playback of those tracks was not possible. The songs will appear greyed out in menus when Xbox 360 owners attempt to access them.

Henshaw said Microsoft had tried to forge a partnership with Apple on the issue, but that Apple had rejected the idea.

During the same interview, Henshaw also declined to comment on whether Microsoft has had to engage in any reverse-engineering to achieve iPod compatibility. Neil Benson, creator of iPodcopy, polled in the same piece, said that the process of locating and accessing iPod's stored music was "more complicated than Microsoft is letting on".

Indeed, Microsoft has gone to great lengths to demonstrate how easy it all is - in demonstrations with journalists, company representatives have hooked up regular (pre-Video) iPods, iPod nanos, Sony PlayStation Portables, and other devices, and promised that the shipping Xbox 360 would feature support for an enormous variety of peripherals. Updates that open up access to future products are likely, Microsoft has said. ...

Nintendo has gone on record to dismiss rumours that highly anticipated adventure game The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess will no longer appear on the GameCube.

Speaking to our sister site, Eurogamer, Nintendo UK's PR Manager said: "Nintendo has always said that The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess will appear on Nintendo GameCube and this is still very much the case."

When Nintendo issued a statement in August announcing that Twilight Princess had slipped to 2006, many anticipated a first-quarter release. But when the game didn't appear on Nintendo's Q1 release list announced late last week, rumours began to fly that the game would launch on the next-generation Revolution console.

One journalist questioned Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime on the subject at last week's Gamers summit. Fils-Aime, who said he was speaking on behalf of both Nintendo president Satoru Iwata and designer Shigeru Miyamoto, said that all parties concerned wanted to see Twilight Princess on the GameCube.

The game was originally due out in this Christmas, but a delay until 2006 was announced in August. Nintendo said the extra development time was needed "to add some incredible new elements" to the game. ...

Farming simulation and adventure game. Choose to play as a girl or a boy and start life in a farming village with the goal of becoming an expert farm manager. Taking over your own farm, you raise plants and animals, catch lots of fish, build up your farm, and see your character grow into adulthood. The game features cows, horses and sheep, among other animals, but this time around, if you don't have a gate around their grazing area, they may get out from your farm area and, when night comes, get attacked by wild dogs. You also have added freedom with your planting, as you can now raise plants outside your own farm area. Once again, interacting with town folk and falling in love are major points of the game. Your choice of love interests changes depending on your choice of boy or girl at the start of the game.

    News from Lik Sang

While US gamers still await the release of the first Naruto title, we importers are years ahead, about to enjoy Naruto Gekitou Ninja Taisen! 4. So it should come as no surprise that the four player anime fighter is at the top of our pre-order charts, and while we wait for the last two short weeks before its release, let’s see what's going to make this the best Naruto yet.

    • Naruto Gekitou Ninja Taisen! 4 TV Commercial (1.2mb, 0:15, WMV)

Gameplay wise the action is hotter and more balanced than ever before with new features like everyone being able to side step while running, new and unique team specific super moves, and the ability for Naruto to unleash his demon fox from within any time he has a full chakra meter. Speaking of which, with an all new 3-man tag team mode, if you're in trouble just switch to one of your partners and while that character is off resting they'll regain their chakra.

Three of the new stages revealed so far include the roof of Konoha Hospital (Ep. 107), Orochimaru's Secret Lair (Ep. 135), and the plains from the Lee vs Kimimaro battle (Ep. 123-127). At the time of writing too, seven new characters have been announced. These start with the 14 year old members of Sound 4 like Jirobo, whom with unbelievable physical strength can actually tear boulder-sized chunks of dirt from the ground and slam them into his opponents! Then there's Kidomaru, packing six arms and the ability to create spider like webs, who loves toying with enemies before finishing them off. Sakon/Ukon are next, two brothers not just strong and quick on their feet, but also both inside the same one body. Trust me; you don't want to be on the receiving end of a punch if both of them are putting their strength into it! Last for the team is Tayuya, a foul mouthed ill tempered girl, but whose main weapon is a flute used to summon powerful demons and to create illusions.

Also fighting this round is Kaguya Kimimaro, who at 15 years of age is the last living member of the Kaguya Clan, famous for being able to manipulate their own skeleton frame. Then there's Yakushi Kabuto, 20 years old and by failing exams on purpose is secretly a much greater fighter than his Genin level ninja would lead opponents to believe. Finally Hoshigaki Kisame joins in, a 23 year old deadly terrorist Shinobi trained for evil purposes, and is well feared with very good reasons.

Beyond the seven newcomers above, here are 27 characters that just wouldn't turn down returning for a good fight in Naruto 4:

    • Uzumaki Naruto
    • Uchiha Sasuke
    • Haruno Sakura
    • Hatake Kakashi
    • Umino Iruka
    • Rock Lee
    • Hyuuga Neji
    • Tenten
    • Maito Gai
    • Nara Shikamaru
    • Yamanaka Ino
    • Akimichi Chouji
    • Inuzuka Kiba
    • Hyuuga Hinata
    • Aburame Shino
    • Gaara
    • Kankuro
    • Temari
    • Jiraiya
    • Orochimaru
    • Tsunade
    • Sarutobi - 3rd Hokage (Sandaime)
    • Mitarashi Anko
    • Uchiha Itachi
    • Haku
    • Momochi Zabuza
    • Mizuki

While there's no doubt fans of the anime and manga will get more out of Naruto Gekitou Ninja Taisen! 4 than anyone else, there's also no denying the title can't be beaten as a full on four player fighter with far more unique and individually styled characters than anything else out there. Whether or not you know why Naruto can summon a bunshin clone of himself in battle, or turn into a giant nine tailed fox, doesn't make the moves any less cool

For those who haven't pre-ordered Naruto Gekitou Ninja Taisen! 4 yet, new orders are welcome anytime, and due Nov 21st, the game is of course eligible for our Free Shipping Worldwide promotion as well. ...

After the recent release of S.O.C.O.M 3 on PS2, the U.S. Navy Seals have taken their team-based tactical stealth action over to the PSP. For the first time ever you can have 16 player battles on your handheld, either through ad hoc or online gameplay, and all on the games 12 brand new PSP exclusive multi-player maps. Furthermore, there's two exclusive handheld multi-player modes that weren't in the PS2 title either, the first of which is deathmatch titled "Free For All", while the second is named "Captive". Protecting your hostages from the opposite team, captive mode is very similar to "suppression" from SOCOM 3, but here players can be brought back to life after being killed. Those who do also have SOCOM 3 however, can unlock extra multi-player skins, weapons and more by syncing mission data through a USB connection.

Single player wise, as the SEAL commander, you and your team can work through 14 missions, then replay it afterwards in an entirely new way through the "Instant Action" option, with different objectives, enemy and object placement. Many such missions take place in a new PSP exclusive area, Chile, and you can customize all missions to your favorite types like hostage rescue, demolition and others. Helping keep the action portable friendly, there's multiple save points, which also eliminate having to replay a failed mission from the beginning. To ensure the PSP don't lose out despite missing some extra triggers and an entire analog stick too, some functions are mapped to simply double tapping a button or such, and work great. Lastly there's also a lock-on system, but ensuring SOCOM stays strategic, those using it while running will have less chance of hitting than someone standing still. Well now that you've been briefed; get ready to gear up and head on into battle this week with SOCOM: FireTeam Bravo on PSP!

Durante has released an Excellent looking game for the PSP, heres whats posted on his Site:

Crystalise is an action/puzzle game for the Sony PSP.
It uses a highly modified version of Shine & Nevin's LuaPlayer.

Most of the functionality is contained in about 2600 lines of Lua code, but I implemented some fairly game-specific performance-critical methods in C. I also rewrote most of LuaPlayer's graphics code to use OpenGL and added some (graphical and other) features.

All images and sound effects were also made by me, so you should be aware that this is programmer's art.
