Sony's list of strong first-party studios has grown this afternoon with the acquisition LittleBigPlanet developer Media Molecule.

They'll join studios like Naughty Dog and Insomniac Games as part of Sony Worldwide Studios.

Sony described the deal as a "strategic move to secure excellence in game development for current and future PlayStation platforms".

"Since Media Molecule's inception, we've had a uniquely close relationship with SCE. Over the years they have consistently shown their dedication to Creative Gaming and Media Molecule, not only through their support of the company, but their willingness to take risks and embrace our often unusual approach and ideas," said Alex Evans, co-founder of Media Molecule.

"What we've achieved already with LittleBigPlanet has proved this to us and we're excited by this new chapter of innovation and creative gaming, for all involved.”

Even the most hard-core gamers are sounding the alarm about the rise in the number of satanically-themed video games that target God and Christianity, invite players to make pacts with the devil, and elevate Satan to hero status.

“This has been going on for the last 10 years, but especially in the most recent games,” said Lance Christian, 32, of Alton, Illinois who has been an avid gamer for most of his life.
For instance, in one game, players kill the Archangels Michael, Gabriel and Raphael before going on to destroy God. Another game requires players to sell their soul to the devil and rewards them for “killing unbaptized infants.”

All of these games seem to have one central theme - God is the enemy and the devil is the hero. And they do nothing to hide it. One game guide glibly states: “The Judeo-Christian God is portrayed as the prominent villain in the series . . . “

“This is just the tip of the iceberg in what I have discovered,” Mr. Christian said. “I feel that the devil has a new tool to work with in this age of technology, and the majority of adults in a position of responsibility are left in the dark.”
His list of the most egregious games includes:

    • Tecmo’s Deception: Invitation To Darkness (Playstation) – Players “make an unholy pact and sell their soul to Satan in exchange for power” with the object of the game being to ensure the resurrection of Satan and obtain his power. (This game is rated “T” for teens.)

    • Nocturne (Playstation 2): A game in which the hero (a demon) destroys the three Archangels St. Michael, Gabriel and Raphael, then goes on to destroy God.

    • Shadow Hearts (Playstation 2): The hero uses his power to intercept and destroy God and “save the world.” (Some games in this series are rated “T”.)

    • Dragon’s Age Origins (Playstation 3/Xbox 360): The game revolves around the story of God going mad and cursing the world. A witch attacks believers and players can “have sex” with her in a pagan act called “blood magic” so she can “give birth to a god.” Another scenario allows players to have sex with a demon in exchange for a boy’s soul.

Other games with satanic themes are Dante’s Inferno, Guitar Hero, Devil Summoner, Koudelka, Trapt, Bayonetta, and Darksiders.

Game publishers are cashing in on the satanic, anti-Catholic and the general anti-religion content themes and using them as a draw for buyers. For instance, Electronic Arts launched a catchy ad campaign to sell its new hell-inspired game, Dante’s Inferno. Buyers interested in the game were greeted at the site by a phony new game called, “Mass: We Pray.” When they clicked on the link, they were declared a heretic and re-routed to Dante’s Inferno. After ordering, fans were offered a “Number of the Beast” discount of $6.66. The same game was advertised during the Super Bowl with the teaser, “Hell awaits.”

Game publishers such as Electronic Arts and Midway Games have not responded to The Bulletin’s requests for comment.

Even though most of these videos are rated by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) as “M” for mature audiences, many are rated “T” for teens. But regardless of the ratings, they can easily fall into the hands of children from older siblings or parents, Mr. Christian says, and points to a recent YouTube video of an eight year-old playing a popular adult Satanic-themed game.

Paul Bury, editor of Family Friendly Gaming said the envelope is definitely being pushed with these games. “Role playing games (RPGs) have progressively gotten worse over the years,” he said. “It is difficult to find a role playing game that is not ‘T’. . . . There have been some ‘M’ rated ones where all kinds of decadence is allowed.”

Another problem is that the ESRB has been “shifting” its standards much like movie rating bureaus have been doing. “Compared to movies in the past, they are now allowing more for a PG rating. I have noticed the same thing from the ESRB. Games that in the opinion of Family Friendly Gaming that should receive a ‘M’ rating, are getting a ‘T’ rating. They are letting more through.”

Eliot Mizrachi, spokesman for the ESRB, says their rating system focuses on violence, language and sexuality and is based on what the average consumer’s expectations would be about content.

“The ratings are only intended to be a guide,” he said, “but if someone has sensitivities about particular content, the first step would be to check the rating summaries on our Web site which provide a very detailed description of the content that factored into the rating.”
We checked these summaries and although they proved helpful, few mentioned the overt satanic content of the games.

Mr. Mizrachi says concerned parents should use the rating system on ...

Dark Void Zero will be available to download on DSi from Friday.

Capcom's retro-style action game will be joined in the DSiWare store by Globulos Party and Real Football 2010.

Dark Void Zero is a spin-off from the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC shooter that was released in January. While Xbox 360 World described the console version as forgettable in their Dark Void review, Zero received many positive reviews upon its release in the US in January.

Designed like an old NES action game, Dark Void Zero puts you in the shoes of Rusty, the first human born in the Void. He must take on the Watchers in a quest to stop their domination of Earth. With the aid of Nikola Tesla and a state-of-the-art rocket pack, you'll have to take down the Watchers and their minions in three levels. Dark Void Zero will cost 500 DSi points.

Real Football 2010 is a football game featuring 245 teams spread across eight leagues. It features Touch Screen controls and you can use photographs taken with the DSi camera to customise corner flags, balls and players. It will cost 800 DSi Points.

Globulos Party is a mini-game compilation featuring 20 games - including croquet, darts, football, ice hockey, snooker and Tic-Tac-Toe.

You'll of course be able to play all three games on the DSi XL when it's released on Friday. You can read our DSI XL review for more on that. ...

Having shot straight to number one in the ELSPA GfK Chart-Track All Formats Top 40 this week, Sony has revealed that landmark PS3 release Heavy Rain is suffering shortages on the UK High Street.

However, Sony hopes to have got extra stock into the channel by next week.

“We have been extremely delighted with the demand for Heavy Rain,” an SCE UK spokesperson told MCV.

“Whilst it isn't out of stock we are aware that supplies are running low. There is still supply in the chain, but I'm afraid if you're hunting for a copy it may require a little extra footwork. There will be more stock arriving next week.

“In the meantime we thank everyone for their excitement and their support for this title and also for their patience if they are still seeking a copy.”

Final Fantasy XIII on Xbox 360 will outsell the PlayStation 3 version by 2:1.

That's according to findings from MyVoucherCodes, which claims its website has received more than 250,000 unique searches for Final Fantasy XIII on the Xbox 360, compared to 120,000 searches for the game on the PS3 since February 1st this year.

"The Final Fantasy series has always been a huge draw for Sony, since its debut on the PlayStation in the form of Final Fantasy VII," says Mark Pearson, managing director of MyVoucherCodes.

"For Microsoft to now be sharing and in fact beating the interest for the PS3 version must be worrying Sony chiefs, who must be wondering just how to steal the march back, if it is at all possible. Our Christmas sales data showed that Xbox 360s were outselling PlayStation 3s three to one in the holiday period, a fact which seems to be presenting itself here as consumers show more interest in the Xbox 360 title."
Square is already confident that Final Fantasy XIII will sell well, so it won't be worrying too much about these findings, we shouldn't think. The question is, which version are you getting? ...

PS3 gamers across the world have woken up to find their consoles unable to connect online.

In some cases, users have even experienced problems playing offline, as well as finding that Trophy data and saved information had been corrupted by the error.

The 'error: 8001050f' message is thought to be related to the a calendar reset on February 28, when the original PS3 systems were reset to January 1, 2000

Sony have recognised the problem via their Twitter page, posting the following advice for users:

"We're aware that many of you are having problems connecting to PSN, and yes, we're looking into it. Stay tuned for updates."
Users with the newer PS3 Slim models are unaffected, but it has been advised that users with older PS3 models should not use their console until further notice.

UPDATE: Sony has issued a statement on the problem (via Eurogamer)

As you may be aware, some customers have been unable to connect to the PlayStation Network today. This problem affects the models other than the new slim PS3.

We believe we have identified that this problem is being caused by a bug in the clock functionality incorporated in the system.

    Errors include:
    • The date of the PS3 system may be re-set to Jan 1, 2000.
    • When the user tries to sign-in to the PlayStation Network, the following message appears on the screen; “An error has occurred. You have been signed out of PlayStation Network (8001050F)”.
    • When the user tries to launch a game, the following error message appears on the screen and the trophy data may disappear; “Failed to install trophies. Please exit your game.”
    • When the user tries to set the time and date of the system via the Internet, the following message appears on the screen; “The current date and time could not be obtained. (8001050F)”
    • Users are not able to playback certain rental video downloaded from the PlayStation Store before the expiration date.

We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours. In the meantime, if you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data.

As mentioned above, Please be advised that the new slim PS3 is not affected with this error. We are doing our best to resolve the issue and do apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Hideo Kojima's shift to PSP development raised questions about what platform the Metal Gear Solid series will continue on. Thankfully, the man himself has signed up to Twitter in order to provide an answer.

"It's not that PSP is the main platform for the future MGS series. Peace Walker is a test to see what type of expansions are there if MGS is brought to a portable. We're not just rising vertically with development on next generation systems, but also horizontally, trying to expand gameplay," Tweeted Kojima, translated by Andriasang.
An old logo for MGS: Peace Walker revealed recently that the game had once been known as Metal Gear Solid 5, and added fuel to the fire.

Hideo Kojima will be the hands-on leader for Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, which has dazzled crowds - Eurogamer included - with four-player co-op and impressive production values. Kojima says you really have to see it to believe it.

"It's difficult to show the interest and freshness of PW through video," he Tweeted. "Cameron's Avatar was a huge hit because of the 3D video. That can't be communicated through text and a trailer. It's something you won't understand unless you experience it for yourself in the [cinema]."
Kojima Productions does already have a new Metal Gear Solid game for consoles in development, called MGS: Rising. Kojima, however, will take a back-seat on the project and allow other team members to call the creative shots.

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker will be released on 28th May. Metal Gear Solid: Rising has no release date. ...
