The used games market can be "critical" to major retail outlets, and good retail health is important to the games industry as a whole. So said EA CFO Blake Jorgensen, who acknowledged the 'benefits' of the used games business at the Goldman Sachs Technology and Internet Conference in San Francisco today."It's one of these classic double-edged swords," he said, reports Gamasutra. "In one way the used game business has been critical for the health of the retail channel, and having a healthy retail channel is an important thing for us."
Jorgensen said that the industry "will probably never be 100 percent digital" do to "bandwidths constraints" and the limitations of in-home storage, pointing to the continued importance of high street retail channels.
"Would we like to sell everything at full price and not have a used game market? Sure," he added, "But I think the used game market's a little like any other kind of market where it creates liquidity. The fact is, that liquidity benefits us in some fashion. So if someone goes in and trades in a game, there's a good chance they're going to buy another one of our games. And so if there's a liquid market, I think that that's not a bad thing at all."
A recent Edge report claimed that Microsoft's next Xbox will require an internet connection to function, and will block the use of second-hand games - a move which US retailer GameStop has condemned.
"I can't really comment on where the next generation boxes are going to be relative to used games," said Jorgensen during the Q&A. "I will say that the trend in the business is to have that always-on connectivity and connect with a customer, and to the extent that the software identifies a certain customer is going to create some issues going down the road in the used game market."
North American Wii U sales came in between 110,000 and 125,000 units in January, the console's second full month of availability in the territory, analysts have estimated. Weighing in with sales predictions ahead of the NPD Group's release of official market data this Thursday, both Wedbush Morgan's Michael Pachter and fellow analyst firm EEDAR said Xbox 360 remained the best-selling games platform in North America last month, followed by 3DS, PS3 and Wii U.On the software front, Pachter said he expects sales to be led by Call of Duty: Black Ops 2and Just Dance 4. On the subject of Wii U's performance to date, Pachter said: "Nintendo must improve sell-through of its Wii U if it hopes to maintain significant market share in the next generation.
"The console received a tepid response from consumers, for a variety of reasons: first, we think that the console was misunderstood by many as a peripheral for the Wii; second, the price point for the Wii U is relatively high, and the launch was into a weak economy; and third, firstparty software support was thin, and third-party software was not sufficiently differentiated to convince many that they needed a Wii U as a replacement for their Xbox 360 or PS3.
"If the Wii U is to thrive, we think that Nintendo must market it more effectively, must speed up the pace of first-party development, and must convince third parties that they must support the Wii U or they will lose market share."
Last month Nintendo lowered its annual Wii U sales forecast from 5.5 million units to four million following weaker than expected demand for the console. However, Iwata moved quickly to rule out the possibility of a Wii U price cut.

-The games count over 6850 pcs. with about 6780 boxed and 70 loose, and are in various format NTSC Japan or Usa and also PAL. -The consoles are over330, with 307 system boxed and 24 loose, and even in this case we have all the different standards. -The controllers are about 220 with 167 boxed and 52 loose. I included all the kind of controller, from the simple joypad to the special controller like all the konami bemani to the densha de go train controller, and the arcade joystick as well. -The accessories are about 185, and in this category I put the ac adapters, the various av cables, the rumble packs, the memory cards, battery packs, the converters for the region locked games, and various other items like screens, printers etc.

I focused on the series, so I have all the games about Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Kirby, Castlevania, Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, Sakura Wars, Super Robot Taisen just to make some example. Also I focused on some type of games, like the Shooters or the RPG: I have about all the shooters for the Megadrive, Saturn, Dreamcast, PC Engine, Playstation 1 & 2 and so on, and also I have about all the RPG, and I have to specify that the shooters are japanese but the RPG are the english version (which are for sure most collectable and valuable than the japanese). Of course there are about all the classic rare games, from Dracula X Rondò of blood (three copies, one sealed), Radiant Silvergun (two copies, One sealed), Magical Chase (two copies, one sealed) and then two copies of Ginga Fukai Densetsu Sapphire, and many many other... Hundreds of games, especially for the later consoles, are still brand new and sealed, and in many case, especially for the rare or good one, I have two copies, one to play and one sealed. I included in this auction either a nice collection of pcb board, with classics such as Burger Time, Wonder Boy, Rygar, Splatterhouse, Ghosts’n Goblins and Ghouls’n Ghosts, and much more, and also rarities like Osman/cannon dancer.
Conditions of the games may vary but the 85% are in great/excellent conditions .The case in which the games are incomplete or in poor condition are really rare. About the systems what to say? They are well over 300, about 50% of them are brand new, another 40% are complete and in good to very good conditions and the last 10% are loose or not 100%complete or maybe in fair conditions. I have some very good collector pieces, like the Hitachi Gamenavi Saturn, Both the Bio Hazard Dreamcast (red & blue), The Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles pearl white Gamecube (only 150Pcs in the world), Two Game Boy Advance SP Famicom color for the 20th Mario Anniversary, The Metal Gear limited edition PSP and the list can go on. I tested some of the important one (not the brand new...), like the PC Engine LT or the Saturn Gamenavi and they work fine, but I have to say that I’ve not tested all because it is a task to big for me at this time. I cannot guaranteed that all is perfectly functional, and please note that all the material in this collection is sold as is. You know that some console are particoulary delicate in some specific area, like the speakers of the PC Engine GT, or the belts of the Famicom Disk or again the plastic gear of the old Nec Cd rom. Sadly in the cases previously mentioned even if the console is brand new, problably it wont work because the problem is the deperibility of some parts due to the age and not the use (of course, in that case, it is possibile to fix them) The controllers are a very interesting category, I have many different kind of them: from the normal joypads, maybe in different color, to the arcade controller like big professional joystick or steering wheels, to about all the music controller like guitar, dance mat, dj station, battery, maracas and many other different and strange devices. Plus I have a large quantity of light guns and many different train controllers and also i would to remark the presence of all three Konami Arcade Style controller, for Guitar Freaks, Beat Mania and Pop’n music, just looking at them is a joy for the eyes... and all is brand new, never played with! When a company delays a product for "minor refinement," we typically expect to see small changes that contribute to a stronger overall product. That wasn't Wikipad's approach -- when it took its namesake gaming tablet into the lab for "minor" tweaks, it took a few inches off its screen size. The Wikipad is now a 7-inch tablet, slated to launch in spring for $249. It's smaller, the company says, but no less powerful -- it's keeping the Tegra 3 GPU the original build promised, not to mention 1GB of DDR3 RAM, 16GB of Flash memory, a 2-megapixel front facing camera and a 1,280 x 800 resolution display.
Wikipad's President of sales, Fraser Townley, told us the gamepad design hasn't changed much either. "We took the pinball wizard approach," he said. "We made everybody in the room shut their eyes, and try the controllers. It's not about the look, it's about the feel. Once we got the feel right, then we could worry about the look. That's how the ten inch was born, and that's how the seven inch stayed the same." The attachment boasts new buttons (now labeled a, b, x and y) with a chrome finish, but seems otherwise unchanged. Wikipad is mum on specific availability, but we're told we can expect to hear more after Chinese New Year. As the 10.1-inch original design? It's still coming, but Townley couldn't it narrow it down further than "before Christmas." PlayStation 3 game PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale was a new entry at 5 on the Japanese software charts this week, leaving Animal Crossing: New Leaf to enjoy another week at number one.

In hardware the Nintendo 3DS XL still proved impossible to beat, staying at number one with over 51,600 units sold. It's nearest competitor, the 3DS, trailed 25,626 units behind.
The total value of the US video games market declined nine per cent in 2012.
NPD estimates that the overall the sector was worth $14.8bn, down from $16.34bn in 2011.
The number includes sales of physical and digital games (the latter presumably with a bit of guesswork) as well as new and pre-owned software, rentals and DLC. Hardware and accessories is not included.
Boxed sales fell 22 per cent to $8.88bn – which a 16 per cent rise in digital sales to $5.92bn was not quite able to offset.
For comparison, the UK games market was worth £2.52bn ($3.9bn) in 2011 and just £1.598bn ($2.5bn) in 2012. At its height in 2008 the UK games market was worth £4.034bn ($6.3bn).
Studio Ghibli and Level-5 have claimed a UK number one with Ni No Kuni: Wrath Of The White Witch, a PS3 exclusive we described as ‘a game full of youthful wonder, imagination and thoughtfulness’ in our review.The only other high profile new entry this week was Square-Enix’s Hitman: HD Trilogy, which made its debut at number five.
