    XCM Dominator Joystick for PS3™

Some gamers find the combo attacks in many games are hard to execute on a regular basis. You may need to combine 4-8 different button attacks with the proper timing to pull special moves. (Example: Y + Y + X + L + R + A + Y + B) With a normal controller this task is nearly impossible. The XCM Dominator Joystick solves this problem, and lets you execute these combos with ease. Just program the keys to a special button and then you only need to press that button to pull off those special moves.

The XCM Dominator Joystick includes 2 very special features: Combo Attacker and Independent Rapid Fire. This will allow you to dominate your opponents with ease. With these 2 features in hand fighting games will never be the same again!

The joystick will be available January 2009. No announcement on how much this will cost.

Thanks to Amazon.co.jp and a brief site update on the Tokimeki Memorial Girl’s Side 1st Love site, we now know that the popular Tokimeki Memorial Girl’s Side 1st Love is getting a special rerelease on the DS. On March 12, 2009, you can pick up Tokimeki Memorial Girl’s Side 1st Love Plus, almost two years after Tokimeki Memorial Girl’s Side 1st Love came out for the DS. Yup, otome games really are that popular in Japan.

As far as new content goes, it looks like Tokimeki Memorial Girl’s Side 1st Love Plus is just going to feature loads of voice acting. It will have full voice acting, plus there will be commentary from each of the “guys” when you look through the omake galleries. There’s no word about any new events or characters. An official site hasn’t opened for Tokimeki Memorial Girl’s Side 1st Love Plus yet, but the original site does announce the forthcoming remake.

So this remake is that it will be packed with voice acting, be out in time for White Day 2009 and will cost ¥5,250 / ~$58. If you don’t already own the 1st Love, and you’re interested, then I could see 1st Love Plus being a good buy. However, I’m not so sure 1st Love owners are going to run out to buy 1st Love Plus, just because of the extra voice acting.

It has been but a matter of hours since we first heard of the Cupcake branch of Android, but the tweaked-for-the-better operating system has apparently already made its way onto Nokia's Internet Tablets. The latest port of NITdroid is chock full of those sweet, highly fattening Cupcake goodies, and honestly, this whole development makes us cautiously optimistic about where all this is headed. Anyone care to give their N810 somethin' new to run on? Let us know how it works out.

This week’s DevTeam Funday features a live demo of yellowsn0w!

MuscleNerd will use Qik to broadcast a live video and audio stream (from an iPhone 2G) of an iPhone 3G being soft-unlocked with yellowsn0w. He’s in Florida for the holidays so there won’t actually be any snow in the live demo (although strangely enough if he were back home in Los Angeles he’d be very close to snow this week!).

Qik creates a chatroom for its videos but it may not be feasible to field questions live from the chatroom. So if you have a question that hasn’t already been answered in our previous blog posts, please tweet them in advance to Musclenerd.

We’re aiming to do the live demo in about 12 hours, or 3PM EST/9PM CET. The actual URL will be tweeted via MuscleNerd’s twitter account just as it starts.

    Hope to see you there!

    SEGA Saturn Coding Contest
    Porting Party winter '08/'09

It is time again for another episode of the annual SEGA Saturn Coding Contest. A few small changes compared to previous contests mean significant improvements for all contestants:
Your effort is directly rewarded with a prize. No more "I don't have a chance to compete with contestant x", because your prize does not depend on your rank. Instead the amount depends solely on your effort.
The goal to port games over to saturn lowers the amount of annoying debugging work, so you get more result out with less work and you can concentrate on the funny things of homebrew coding.

    Objective:
As Porting Party suggests, the objective is to take an existing game of your choice and port it over to SEGA Saturn! This implies that the source code of that game is available and written in C or C++. It's totally up to you which game you choose! Choose your game carefully, try playing it yourself before starting to port it. You'll be best off picking up a game that's finished, very enjoyable to play and that doesn't exceed the hardware capabilities of the SEGA Saturn console.

    Time:
The contest is running during winter 2008/2009. Meteorologically, this is the time from december 21st 2008 to march 20th 2009. So march 20th 2009 is the deadline for submitting your entries. To submit your entry: upload the Zip-compressed ISO CD image to a file hosting service like megaupload.com and submit the link via email to [email protected].

    Prizes:
All entries are rewarded, no matter which rank. The better your entry is, the more money you win. The more entries you submit, the more money you win.
    • Money: Every entry wins as much money, as it got points from the judges. So having achieved the maximum results in: 90 point = 90 euro. Even more if you collected extra points by using special saturn hardware features. Multiple entries means multiple times money! Money is transfered via paypal, contestants in the EU can alternatively use bank transfer.

    • USB Data Link v2: This device connects your Saturn with your PC and transfers game saves, bios and uploads homebrew games for testing. Version 2 is brand new and exclusive to contestants, it transfers data much faster than version 1, you can't get it anywhere else. All contestants who haven't got a one last year, will get one for free. Those who won such a device last year, can have it upgraded to v2 for free!

    Judging:
The entries are judged in the three categories: graphics, sound and gameplay. The judging is done by 5 to 6 judges in parallel. Every judge rates each entry in each category by giving a rating between 1 and 5 points. This means each entry can get up to 75/90 points regularly.
Additionally, extra points can be achieved by using special hardware features of the Saturn console.

So happy coding everyone. Porting is perfectly suited to submit multiple entries, because each single entry is being rewarded!
