Lucas Arts has told CVG that a demo of Fracture will be released simultaneously on PSN and XBL in "August or September".

The third-person shooter takes a punt at innovation with a terrain deformation system that allows you to literally morph hills and craters into the ground using a gun called the Entrencher.

Lucas Arts told us that the demo would be the same as the version we played yesterday, which contained a tutorial stage leading into an action level in which you can try out all the land-bending trickery.

    Multiplayer options were not included.

Look out for hands-on impressions of the game, along with brand new assets, on CVG soon. ...

Gearbox president Randy Pitchford reckons the visuals in Brothers In Arms: Hell's Highway represent a "15-20 percent" leap over Epic's still rather foxy Gears of War.

Jabbering away enthusiastically this morning during a Ubidays demo of the WWII FPS, Pitchford justified his claim by pointing to the improvements both his studio and tech creator Epic have made to the engine since Marcus Fenix grunted onto 360 in late 2006.

"Hell's Highway is Unreal Engine 3, it's the engine that powered Gears of War," he reminded us. "Now since Gears of War, Epic's invested a lot in the technology and it's much better than what was in Gears. And we've worked a lot on this technology; so you're seeing fidelity that's about 15-20 percent higher than Gears of War."

Hell's Highway is the third instalment in the Brothers In Arms series, taking Operation Market Garden as its historical setting. It's out on 360, PS3 and PC this August. We'll let you know our detailed thoughts on the latest build soon. In the meantime, see if you agree with Randy's claims by checking out the brand new Hell's Highway footage direct from Ubidays. ...

A new off-road racing game based on the official Score International Baja license is on the way from Activision, the game publisher announced today.

Score International Baja 1000 is under development by Left Field Productions, a California-based studio whose previous credits include Dave Mirra's BMX Challenge, World Series of Poker: Battle For the Bracelets, and the upcoming Nintendo Wii game Nitrobike.

"No race demands more endurance of both man and machine than the Baja 1000," said Sal Fish, President and CEO of Score International, the world's leading desert racing organization. "In consulting Activision for a video game version, we meticulously explained what's needed to capture the intensity of the Baja. They've nailed not only the look but also the elements of true desert racing."

Activision said the game will feature more than 90 vehicles across multiple classes, including trophy trucks, class I, motorcycles and ATVs. Realistic dirt and damage modeling are promised, as are "unforgiving conditions and blistering speeds."

Score International Baja 1000 is not to be confused with this year's other off-road desert endurance racing game, Baja, scheduled for a September release from publisher THQ and developer 2XL Games. Members of the 2XL team were behind ATV Offroad Fury, MX vs. ATV Unleashed and Motocross Madness.

Score International Baja 1000 is being developed for PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii and PC.
