    Hi All,

I'm working now to improve all emulators i've already ported, and to make them look better, we need good background and icons / images.

So, if someone wants to help me on this task, please send me an email to zx81.zx81(at)gmail.com

Emulators i'm working on are :

    PSP Beeb (BBC Micro emulator)
    PSP Colem (ColecoVision emulator)
    PSP Int (Intellivision emulator)
    PSP Msx (MSX emulator)
    PSP Sim (Sam coupé emulator)

For each of them we need a small icon (144 x 80) :

    A big icon (480x272) :

And background image, used in the emulator menu :

Sony have had a bit of a bad week around the world as far as PR goes. Firstly they yet again shit on Europe with a crappy March PS3 release, yes Europe may not sell as many as USA and Japan but its still a mega market and all they have done is give the Ebay sharks another reason to charge silly prices for PS3 Consoles this Xmas.

Secondly the delaying of GTA Vice City Stories and the unknown release date of Gran Tourismo PSP, 2 more slaps in Sony Console fans faces.

Now it seems that Sony has turned its attention to the companies who release games on its systems.

A few weeks ago i posted that the PSP Connect site was linking to a homebrew site, that in itself is a very strange move for Sony as the site in question hosts Firmware files (remember Sony took the likes of Lik Sang to court for the same reason) and also the Devhook ISO Loader which obviously has a massive effect on the sales of Commercial games if warezing is being done on such a grand scale.

Now its like Microsoft carrying an advert to Linux on its pages, or Nintendo promoting Sony, these things just dont happen. But Sony basically promoting the warezing of its own console and the exploitation of its own firmware and the hacking of the console.

When contacted the rep from Sony gave no reply.

Now as a Homebrew Network we would be ecstatic to see the likes of Sony and Nintendo and Microsoft actually let all their consoles be open to homebrew in the forms we would like to see. But something tells me that it aint going to happen.

Now will Sony get a backlash from the game companies they need to keep the PSP as a commercial console alive ?

I suppose the question is, will we ever see homebrew allowed by on a major games console bar the likes of GP2X. ? ...

More gamers than ever before are having their say in this year’s Golden Joystick Awards – but there’s still time to make your mark on the industry’s most prestigious awards ceremony.

The Golden Joystick Awards are officially the world’s oldest and most respected gaming awards show and have taken place since 1982, when Sony was famous for the Walkman and the Commodore 64 was a mere infant! This year, the awards are announced at a glitzy award ceremony on Friday, 27th October at the Park Lane Hilton, London and for the first time, will be streamed live at www.computerandvideogames.com.

Smashing organisers’ expectations – almost 400,000 votes have already been received across 17 award categories, almost doubling last year’s total. With voting open until Friday, 12th October – there are still no clear winners, with potential receivers of the time-honoured Golden Joysticks changing on an hourly basis.

For the first time in living memory, a handheld game could potentially scoop “Ultimate Game of the Year” with New Super Mario Brothers leading the charge. Axe-fans are backing Red Octane’s Guitar Heroes to win the “Innovation Award”, whilst Halo 3 is out in front in the “One to Watch” category, surprisingly beating both the Nintendo Wii and Sony PlayStation 3.

In the hotly-contested “Retailer of the Year” award, as five-way scrap has broken out, with Amazon.co.uk, Gameplay.com and Play.com battling it out with high street giants Game and GameStation, for gamers hearts, minds and wallets. In the “Publisher of the Year” category, EA Games, Rockstar and Ubisoft are currently neck and neck for the winning position, with both Nintendo and Microsoft Game Studios recording a massive surge in recent weeks.

John Houlihan is Editor of computerandvideogames.com:

“The record number of votes, especially in a difficult year between major console launches is great news for the Joysticks and the games industry as a whole. It just shows gamers are extremely passionate people and thousands are taking the opportunity to have their say and select the worthy winners of gaming's ultimate accolade, a Golden Joystick Award."

Cools has updated the email and sms app for the PSP, heres the details:

Well thanks to yoyomacy there is now text to phone support in PSP eMail and SMS. It works pretty good, while I was testing it had connected to a cell phone and home phone multiple times. With this update there should be more stability with emails and sms's. You will need a wifi capable lua player to run this. If anyone has any idea or anything to make this a better homebrew just send a pm. Still no "\n" support, going to contact Sg57 to see if he ever got it working...

Ahman has released a new version of his excellent shell for the PSP, heres whats new:

Here is the latest version of iR Shell 2.1 with the following new features:

    1. Support 1.0 Eboot format. (Note: The APP view will not list Eboots for 2.x Homebrews that are designed to be launched from Devhook firmware emulation.)
    2. Support for __SCE__ naming convension.
    3. Both 1.0 Eboot & SCE naming can be enabled or disabled under iR Configurator. If you don't use these naming convensions, you can turn them off for a faster APP view list.
    4. Allow removal of startup splash screen (configurable under iR Configurator).
    5. nethostfs server v1.5 is enhanced to allow read only access. This means you can open your PC server to the public without worrying files being deleted. Refer to the user guide for details.
    6. File Manager has been enhanced to support mulitple files/directories selections similar to MP3. You can use CIRCLE key to hightlight multiple files or directories and then perform file manipulation on them. You can highlight maximum of 10 files or directories. The mulitple selection will only work under DIR & RDF View. It won't work for APP & SAV views.
    7. The location of each view (DIR, APP, RDF & SAV) will be remembered after toggle. Example, switching from DIR View to APP View and back to DIR View. The directory & cursor location will return to its original location before you left. Pls note MP3 Shortcut & DIR Shortcut are also classified as DIR View.

    Special thanks to:
    - Terdinglage, Numeror & Xoassis for making menu skins for iR Shell.
    - Numeror for designing new HELP image files.
    - All beta testers for countless hours of testing, especially StoneCut for his professional test reports.
    - All previous contributors to iR Shell, including AnonymousTipster, Dark Alex, Triable and others.

    Heres an excerpt:

You may recall, if you've seen the original Chicken Little, the spoof movie at the end of the flick that "documented" the characters' lives as a Star Trek-style action film, featuring the lead character, voiced by the manly Adam West, as a big, buff, action hero. Buena Vista's taking that universe and expanding on it in a videogame sequel: Chicken Little: Ace in Action for both the PlayStation 2 and Nintendo Wii, developed by the company's recently acquired Avalance Studios.

The Nintendo DS is getting a version of its own, in the works at DC Studios (the team that brought DS owners the Rayman 2 port back in the system's launch window). But instead of porting the action platformer that's set to hit the consoles in a month's time, the handheld development team is instead creating an original handheld experience. Buena Vista Interactive stopped by the offices this week to give us a taste of the near-final game.

    Heres an excerpt:

Few games since the PSP launched have satiated the cravings of first-person shooter fans. To top that, none has really earned the kind of praise common on PC, and to a lesser extent, consoles. Part of the reason has to do with controls. Specifically, the system's lone analog stick makes things difficult in the middle of a hectic firefight. One game in particular, Coded Arms, made the best of it by offering you customizable controls and auto-aim functionality. But that seems like a long time ago and no other game has come by to challange it.

In steps Medal of Honor: Heroes, the first game in the venerable series to debut on the PSP. A pair of IGN staffers went down to the EA offices in Redwood Shores to check it out. And although the demo only lasted about a half hour, it's abundantly clear EA has made the first-person shooter to beat on the system. It does just about everything you want a portable shooter to do, and so far, it seems to do it well. Beyond that, EA made Heroes look and feel like a game in the Medal of Honor series, as opposed to a faceless shooter set during World War II.
