Last August, GameStop's online store leaked word of EA Replay, an Electronic Arts retro compilation slated for a PlayStation Portable release by the end of the year. The Web site's product listing was fairly informative, giving a complete list of 14 games included in the collection, as well as a list of bonus features.

Over the break, GameStop hosted a product listing for EA Replay 2 on the PSP but neglected to give any details on the collection except for the expected release date and price (February 19 and $29.99). While GameStop pulled the product page from its own site, as of press time there is still a GameStop-branded listing for EA Replay 2 at Barnes & Noble's online store.

Another pair of unannounced PSP games were spotted on GameStop's site. The retailer is accepting preorders for Guitar Hits from Ubisoft (February 27, $29.99) and Dragon Ball Z: Shin Budokai Another Road from Atari (March 20, $39.99). Another Road would be a follow-up to last year's original Shin Budokai on the PSP, but the nature of Guitar Hits is a little less clear. Ubisoft previously used the Guitar Hits name for a series of multimedia PC products that would teach users to play guitar with a combination of tablature and technique videos. GameStop is listing the genre of Guitar Hits for the PSP as "simulation."

Please note, while retailer listings frequently jump the gun on publishers' product announcements, they should not be taken as final confirmation of a game's existence; nor should the absence of a listing be considered as proof that a game isn't coming to a given platform. ...

Market analysts NPD have published a list of the top ten best-selling games in North America for 2006, with the PlayStation 2 version of Madden NFL 07 at number one.

More than 1.8 million copies of the game have been sold so far, and it's one of five PS2 titles in the chart - Kingdom Hearts II is at number three, followed by Final Fantasy XII at six, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories in seventh place and NCAA Football 07 in eighth.

Second position goes to New Super Mario Bros., which sold around 1.5 million copies. Fellow Nintendo DS game Brain Age finishes off the chart at number ten, having racked up sales of more than 790,000 units.

There are three Xbox 360 titles listed, with platform exclusive Gears of War at number four. More than 1 million copies of the game have been sold so far and it's the most popular title on Xbox Live.

GOW is followed by Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter in fifth place (913,000 units sold), and the 360 version of Madden NFL 07 in ninth (826,000 units).

The chart was published by USA Today. NPD has yet to release complete hardware sales figures for 2006, but has issued preliminary estimates which suggest that Xbox 360 won the battle for Christmas cash - beating the Nintendo Wii by a small margin. ...

Microsoft is being sued by French developer In-Fusio, which alleges the Redmond giant is wrongfully seeking to terminate a US $2 million (EUR 1.5m) mobile gaming deal.

In-Fusio claims Microsoft has refused to approve its game designs, leading the mobile developer to withhold the second of four US $500,000 (EUR 376,000) payments. Microsoft is citing this lack of payment as justification for ending the agreement.

Last September, In-Fusio announced a deal to bring Halo content to mobile phones, beginning with wallpapers and ringtones, with the recent lawsuit describing the services as a prelude to a full mobile game.

However, the developer now believes the Xbox manufacturer has purposefully ignored efforts to create a title, stating in the suit: "Microsoft has thwarted In-Fusio's efforts to develop Halo under the agreement."

The suit continues: "Indeed, in the last 11 months, Microsoft has approved no fully developed In-Fusio game designs; ignoring and then refusing to accept In-Fusio's game design concepts with little or no explanation and leaving In-Fusio little basis to revise its concepts to obtain Microsoft's approval."

In-Fusio is seeking damages and an injunction on Microsoft.

Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops has received rave reviews since its release in the USA late last year, and that coupled with comments made by an assistant producer suggest a sequel is definitely on the way.

Ryan Payton, who admits the PSP game screwed up his social life, told the PSM podcast: "If it's successful on the retail level there will definitely be a sequel."

"Just on a personal level that's something I really, really want to do," he added.

Konami hasn't said anything specific about a sequel, but having shifted the Metal Gear portable titles away from card-battling toward real-time endeavours, an upturn in critical fortune and sales is unlikely to go unacknowledged.

Portable Ops is due out in Europe this year, although Konami's yet to announce a specific release date. ...

Rally driving doesn't wait for anybody, not even Jesus. So, while we were indulging in the Christmas festivities, retro-heads at Microsoft squeezed this 1981 classic online.

Released on 27th December for 400 Microsoft points, New Rally-X lets you turn back the years and enjoy its Pac-Man inspired gaming in glitzy HD.

Originally the sequel to Rally-X, the game challenges players to negotiate a maze, collect flags and avoid enemy vehicles. The flags increase in value as they are obtained, but reset to the base 100 points if you happen to die. To make things a little bit trickier, you also have a limited fuel supply. Once this runs down you'll slow to a crawl, becoming a sitting duck for the evil red cars.

The release also includes other features such as the Lucky Flag that rewards you points depending on the amount of fuel you have left, and the smoke-screen ability that stuns those pesky enemy drivers.

Unfortunately players seem far from impressed with this recent download, belching concerns that Microsoft should either concentrate on releasing newer and independent games, or make better choices about which archaic romps to regurgitate.

"I've had more fun falling down the stairs," claimed 'Wet Vein' on the Major Nelson blog-site, whilst 'XanderSan' rated it a whopping "Disappointment / 10."

Perhaps following Small Arms, RoboBlitz, and Assault Heroes was always going to be a tall order, but we can't help thinking that finishing a successful 2006 with New Rally-X was a little underwhelming.

What's more, it's not even available in Korea. Tsk! ...

Who cares about waiting for a patented idea to come to fruition when you can just handle things yourself? In ebphondaprelude's case, the modder apparently didn't feel comfortable waiting for Sony's LED-infused SIXAXIS to make it to market, and cracked open the PlayStation 3 controller for a bit of hackeration. Seemingly on the less difficult end of the DIY spectrum (at least compared to some entries we've seen), this mod simply requires a steady hand, 2.8v LEDs, a bit of wire, and your trusty soldering iron. The end result gives you four LEDs across the top and a PlayStation symbol that emanates blue in the night. So if you've nothing better to do on this first day back from an entirely too short holiday pause, be sure to hit the read link and get to work.

It may not extend its reach into as many rooms as some iPod sound systems, but Chestnut Hill Sound's upcoming "George" unit looks to at least one up Apple's own Hi-Fi in the functionality (and price) department. Set to come in at a cool $550 next month, George will handle both iPod playback and AM/FM radio duties, each controllable though the detachable wireless remote, which has its own LCD display and range of controls (check it out up close after the break). What's more, the system uses the ZigBee wireless protocol (good for up to 25 feet), which would seem to open up some home automation possibilities, although Chestnut Hill only goes so far as to hint at it, mentioning that George "improves and expands to fit your life." Maybe they'll be willing to spill a few more details when George makes its official debut later this month at CES.

Fresh from our afternoon co-op game, we've captured 17 (count 'em) screenshots of Crackdown's excellent multiplayer mode, and we have to say we're itching to jump back in and play some more.

If you're looking for a Tony Blackburn-style run-down, the screens basically show us and the fellows at Official Xbox 360 Magazine running around, shooting bad guys and generally not co-operating. There's also one particularly radical ramp jump in there, although we got so excited we managed to miss capturing the car pile up that followed.

Market research analyst NDP has revealed the first estimates for North American console Christmas sales - and the Xbox 360 has come out on top, beating both PS3 and Wii at retail.

According to NDP, the Xbox 360 sold 2 million units followed by the Nintendo Wii which managed to shift 1.8 million. PS3 meanwhile, presumably still suffering from an on-going hardware drought, only managed to shift 750,000 units.

The 360's sales win can presumably be put down to plentiful stock compared to the other two freshly-launched consoles, as well as a number of enticing hardware bundles that appear to have proved a hit with punters.
