As promised last week, the first footage of the new Wii instalment of EA's seminal snowboarding series, SSX Blur has been shown on US TV - and you can watch it for yourself thanks to ye olde internet.

The footage shows what appears to be a similar series entry to the much-loved SSX 3, which mixed up the vanilla snowboarding affairs by presenting an entire mountain for you to conquer - and obviously throw yourself off as well.

The presentation of the game seems also to have backtracked from the rocking beats and scribbled drawings of last series instalment SSX On Tour, which didn't review as well as previous cousins.

There's no release date for SSX Blur as yet, but we're sure there'll be more word on the Wii snowboarder some time in the near future.

I've actually always wanted to build some helpful devices for people with disabilities, I know that sounds completely different than the stuff I usually do (you know, like Xbox laptops and ghost documentaries) but I see it as an interesting challenge. Here was my chance!

I managed to get both rumble controllers on this thing because I didn't want to accidentally build a Sixaxis. The right analog shoulder button has been moved down and flipped for use with the pinky finger. The X Y B A triggers, along with right bumper, have been rewired with tact switches to the middle for actuation by the middle and ring fingers. The left analog trigger and left bumper have not been moved. It will take some getting used to but everything is within reach. Pulling the right trigger with the pinky isn't that hard, though who knows after a marathon of Oblivion rat-killing what could happen.

One of the biggest challenges, at least in the brainstorming "how I am going to do this?" phase was how to do the right analog stick. Then I realized I could just put it on the bottom of the controller and reverse its wiring. You don't actually tilt the controller on the axis of the stick because that would be awkward. (Believe me, I tried) Instead you actually just move the whole thing in the direction you want for the right stick, and the analog stick then rotates against your leg. This is why you have to reverse the wiring, because the use of the stick itself has been reversed.

PAL region to get units December 7th

Australian consumers have racked up over 30,000 pre-orders of the Nintendo Wii ahead of the console launch later this week.

"We expect demand will outweigh supply and that there will be a few more 'sickies' than usual on Thursday," said Nintendo of Australia spokesperson Vispi Bhopti, speaking to the Herald Sun.

The 30,000 figure is also the amount of Xbox 360's sold in the region in the first four days of launch, which made the Microsoft console the fastest-selling ever for the PAL territory.

Nintendo's new home console launches across Europe this Friday, December 8th.

Sold out signs go up before stores even open for eager consumers

Nintendo's Wii has reportedly sold out at launch in Japan, where eager consumers were met with controlled queues and raffle ticket allocations at major electrical retailers.

Customers who had pre-ordered early enough needed to only wait politely in line, while some stores had held units back to allocate on the day with a raffle ticket system.

Popular outlets such as Bic Camera managed to draw steady queues the day before the December 2 launch, which eventually grew to over a thousand by early the following morning. Store employees were on hand to pass out tickets and eventually hold up signs saying the Wii had sold out before the doors even opened.

For those that hadn't arrived the night before or pre-ordered their consoles, some smaller stores were selling units on a first come, first served basis - along with titles such as the highly-anticipated The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

The sell-out success at bricks and mortar retailers echoed that of online stores such as Amazon Japan, which had closed pre-orders within minutes of opening registration in November.

Although Nintendo of Japan has yet to announce official figures, the company had promised 400,000 units for launch day, with a further 600,000 for the region by the end of the year.

    1.) Nintendo DS Lite - 34,938
    2.) XBOX 360 - 25,832
    3.) PlayStation 2 - 20,322
    4.) Nintendo DS - 19,703
    5.) PlayStation Portable - 19,033
    6.) Game Boy Advance SP - 3,932
    7.) XBOX - 1,841
    8.) Game Boy micro - 1,382
    9.) GameCube - 91
    10.) PlayStation - 16
    11.) Game Boy Advance - 7
    12.) Nokia N-Gage QD - 5

Sales info leaked from chart-track from a few weeks ago, show a snapshot of the current hardware sales trends in the UK. Like the rest of the world the DS dominates but the original DS is still selling well, were as in the US and Japan, most people opt for the Lite version. The good news for Sony is that the PS seems to be holding its own relative to other hardware sales, and don't seem to have the problems PSP has been having in japan, sales wise.

It also seems that the Gamecube is all but dead, after major chains like GAME have been clearing there stock the last few months, making way for the Wii.

Good news for MS as the Xbox 360, beats the PS2 into second place, remember it will be at least another 3 months till the PS3 arrives here. Xbox 360 sales were most likely boosted by Gears of War which had just launched that week.
