No Xbox 360 owner is going to complain that there are too many demos available for download over Xbox Live Marketplace. Apparently Electronic Arts also believes that there can't be too many demos either, as the publisher continues to roll out demos of each 360 game it has on store shelves, and even one that hasn't yet made it to retail.

That trend continues, as GameSpot News has learned that a demo for Lord of the Rings, The Battle for Middle-earth II is scheduled to be released Thursday, July 13. The exact time of its availability has not yet been announced.

The trial will feature both single- and multiplayer and take gamers into the War in the North campaign. Console real-time strategy games will likely be unfamiliar to most, so EA has included a tutorial to show players how to use the 360's controller to direct their legions.

The single-player portion of the demo will feature the first mission in the evil campaign, and have players siege an Elven stronghold. The multiplayer portion offers one-on-one battles over Xbox Live, pitting Elven and Goblin armies against each other.

The Lord of the Rings, The Battle for Middle-earth II was released last week, is rated T for Teen, and retails for $59.99. ...

The innovative Wii has clearly caught the eye of the world's biggest entertainment software company. Today, Electronic Arts announced that it has six games in development for Nintendo's upcoming console.

In addition to the previously announced Madden NFL 07 and Need for Speed Carbon, gamers can expect to wave the magic Wii-wand to the tune of a new Harry Potter game. Nintendo's Wii Sports won't be the only place to play 18 on the Wii--a Tiger Woods PGA Tour game for the console is also in the works. The Wii will also hit the slopes with SSX, and in what can be considered another sign that the new console isn't just a kids machine, the street thugs of The Godfather are headed to Wii-town.

But that won't be all. In a statement today, the company says that even more Wii games that are currently in development will be announced in the coming months.

"Once we started to experiment with Madden on Wii, there was an explosion of innovation. Everyone in the studio is energized by the creative opportunity afforded by both the hardware and controller," said EA senior vice president John Schappert. ...

The high-profile Florida murder trial known as "the Xbox slayings" began today in St. Augustine, where it was relocated after officials decided the Central Florida town of Deltona, where the murders occurred, would not be able to handle the media attention.

Just a day after the 12-person jury--five men and seven women--was selected, the prosecution presented their opening statements in the case that will decide the futures of Troy Victorino, 29, Michael Salas, 20, and Jerone Hunter, 20.

The three men are being accused of taking the lives of Erin Belanger, 22, Michelle Nathan, 19, Francisco Ayo-Roman, 30, Anthony Vega, 34, Roberto Gonzales, 28, and Jonathan Gleason, 17, in August 2004. The trio, along with Robert Cannon, 19, allegedly beat and stabbed the victims to death after Belanger took an Xbox from the house where Victorino had been squatting.

Prosecuting attorney John Tanner described the gory details he is building his case around. "The girls are screaming, the solid, sickening sound of bats on flesh and bone. You hear the screams of the dog being smashed in the face. It will come alive for you in this trial." He claims the events all happened "in a matter of minutes."

Tanner is going to need to more powerful remarks like that as his side was dealt a devastating blow today. Cannon, the alleged fourth participant in the slayings, refused to testify for the prosecution. The 19-year old had previously made a plea to cooperate and testify against Victorino, Salas, and Hunter, in exchange for being spared the death penalty. Cannon would not take the stand and asked to withdraw his plea.

The defendants are facing six counts of first-degree murder, five counts of mutilating a dead human body, as well as other felonies. ...

God of War was, hands-down, one of the best game's of last year in our books, thanks to its deep, involving combat system, searing level design and stunning production values. Needless to say, we're itching to get our mitts on the sequel.

According to David Jaffe, creator of the series, it looks like God of War 2 is shaping up to be something special indeed (although you could argue he would say that). Posting in a recent blog entry, Jaffe revealed that the game is coming along "very, very nicely."

"I played a bunch of levels last week and it's really, really fun", Jaffe continued. "The art and music is much better than the first game and there is some damn fine level design going on in the new game."

In fact, Jaffe is so pleased with his team's work on God of War 2, he's sure a third game will be on the cards. Echoing sentiments expressed by game director Cory Barlog in our recent interview, Jaffe explained, "As Cory and I have said to the press, this is the second act of a bigger story. And when you are making a game, you never really know if the game will turn out good enough to merit another one in the series.

"But after last week, I can say I am very confident of our chances to be able to complete the GOD OF WAR trilogy. You never know, but that's me just putting it out there." ...

The Lord of the Rings is not dead! New RPG to be unleashed on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360

EA's swept its cloak back and thrust its pelvis forward to slap us in the face with The Lord of the Rings: The White Council, a new Tolkien-tastic RPG that's weaving its magic on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. You may actually recall that this title was 'accidentally' revealed back in January, but now we have official word dressed up in shiny role-playing attire.

The White Council's due next year, and is described as an epic, open world adventure that's been inspired by Peter Jackson's Rings movies and features an original storyline "derived from J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings novels". According to EA, as a dwarf, hobbit, elf or man, you'll be able to explore Middle-earth and ultimately become a hero allied to the White Council.

Furthermore, we're told "A combination of stunning graphics and expansive environments, along with the freedom of movement demonstrates the innovation and quality of the next-generation RPG, where players can create their own adventures." Erm, okay then.

Unfortunately, we've yet to be bombarded with first screenshots from The White Council, but it's only a matter of time. ...

Some Sad news that has went unsaid For far too long, The man you see here is Alan Kotok, And hes a very important man. You may find yourself asking why If you dont already know. He Helped create the First Video Game and the First JoyStick.
Here is an article found thanks to Tatsujin Via IRC,
Here is the Alan Kotok Story.

    Alan Kotok, 64, created joystick

    Sarah H. Wright, News Office
    June 13, 2006
Computer pioneer Alan Kotok, an MIT alumnus who helped create both the first video game and the gaming joystick, died of a heart attack in his home in Cambridge, Mass., on Friday, May 26. A native of Philadelphia, he was 64.

Kotok (S.B. 1962) entered MIT at age 16 and became swiftly involved in developing chess-playing computer programs, designing new systems for MIT's Tech Model Railroad and, with a group of friends, coming up with their original video game, Spacewar. Tim Berners-Lee, founder and director of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), which is housed in MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, described Kotok as "one of the early wise men of computer science."

The unflappable Kotok was "not only technically adept well beyond the norm, but also possessed a childlike delight in all things ingenious or intriguing. Wit, wisdom and sheer human warmth defined him, yet he commanded total respect. He would humbly take on anything which simply needed doing," Berners-Lee said.Kotok had been W3C associate chairman since 1997. In highlighting Kotok's many contributions to the field that literally grew up with him, Berners-Lee pointed to Kotok's important programs for early Digital Equipment Corp. (DEC) and IBM computers, including the well-known Kotok-McCarthy chess program at MIT, which became Kotok's S.B. thesis.

Kotok spent 34 years with DEC in numerous leadership roles, retiring in 1996. He served as technical director for product strategy and development groups in telecommunications, storage and Internet. While at DEC, he was chief architect of the PDP-10 family of computers and a logic designer for the early DEC PDP-6 computer. Later, he became chief architect on the influential DECsystem-10 timesharing computer system and a senior consultant to Digital's Alta Vista project, an early Internet search engine.

Gordon Bell, senior researcher in Microsoft's Media Presence Research Group, worked with Kotok at DEC in the 1960s. Kotok was "calm, constant and unflappable with a wonderful sense of humor. He loved telephony and probably knew more about it than anyone in the company. This was invaluable to us as communication is the mainstay of computing today."Kotok also provided leadership as a member of the Corporate Strategy Group, which advocated early adoption and integration of Internet and Web-based technologies.

Kotok, whose daughter Leah affectionately called him "King Nerd," had a lifelong interest in all things mechanical. His love of trains, which surged into passion at MIT, arose in childhood: His father owned a New Jersey hardware store that sold toy trains at Christmas, and Kotok set up the annual train displays. As for electronics, a family legend tells how Kotok, then 5, stuck a metal screwdriver into an electric outlet and was tossed across a room. Kotok himself recalled this with characteristic understatement -- "I was always interested in electrical engineering!" -- in a 2004 interview. In the same interview, Kotok described his 1956 encounter with a "giant thinking machine" on a school field trip to the Mobil Research Lab in New Jersey as the "spark that triggered me.

We went through a programming exercise, punched up the cards, put them into the machine and the printer clank-clanked and we got the answers. I said, 'Computers! This is it!'"
Kotok married the former Judith McCoy in 1977; she died in 2005.Kotok is survived by two daughters, Leah Beth Kotok of Ashburnham, Mass. and Frederica Beck of Prescott, Ariz.; a son and daughter-in-law, Daryl and Shelly Beck of Greenfield, Mass.; and two grandsons.

The funeral was private. A memorial service is being planned for the fall.Donations in Kotok's memory may be made to the Westfield Center for Early Keyboard Studies, P.O. Box 505, Orcas, WA 98280; the Computer History Museum, 1401 N. Shoreline Blvd., Mountain View, CA 94043; or the Judith Kotok Memorial Scholarship, c/o the Longy School of Music, One Follen St., Cambridge, MA 02138.

A few new features have been added to the forums within this last week.

    New Warning System

In case you guys haven't noticed a newer efficient warning system has been implemented. There are different warnings with different levels. Think of it as a sort of decibel system for the forums. Each user is granted a limit of 10 warning points. Small offences such as double-posting and de-railing of threads will only result in small 2-point warnings while more serious crimes (such as warez discussion) will result in an instant 10-point fill-up. When a user maxes out their 10-point limit they will be banned for seven days. This warning system will allow a tighter control on certain undesirable content and will make keep the forums safe and clean.

    Staff Webmail addresses

Thanks to Martin again all staff have been given dcemu webmail accounts (e.g; [email protected]). The major advantage about this new webmail feature is the added effectiveness of post reporting. If any DCemu member finds an offensive or illegal post you can report posts by clicking the lower-left icon found in the corner of any post. These reports are sent to the majority of moderaters and staff. This creates much faster response times and makes it much easier for us to do our job. I encourage all users to report bad posts instead of PMing us.

The community is only getting better with these new features and the DCemu network will only continue to get better.

Don't forget about the ever-expanding DCemu Arcade ...
