    DSBash

    by Published on August 12th, 2008 18:34

Leinad has released a new version of DSBash for the NeoFlash Coding Contest, heres the full release info:

Project description: With DSBash you can browse trough chat-quote-archives.

Actualy supported: bash.org [atm down but I hope they come back -_-] , qdb.us and german-bash.org
    It's a 99% recode of the last version >.<

Note: bash.org seems to be down atm... I hope its back online asap, but while its down, you can use qdb.us instead. So dont say "hey I see the menu and nothing happens"... Bash.org isnt my page, I just love it and coded the reader, im not responsible for the pages the browser supports~

    Changelog:
    - Skinning added
    - Auto Detecting for the DSBash folder, Put it anywhere you want to
    - DLDI isnt required anymore, if you dont patch it, it uses the skin inside the rom
    - german-bash.org and qdb.org added
    - Screens can be switched now
    - hundred times faster - removed mass of useless VBLs during download process
    - massive speedup, because now 50[bash.org], 20[qdb.org], 5[german-bash random], 50[german-bash latest] quotes which are on a downloaded page are stored in the ram and can be browsed without downloading a new page every quote.
    - Removed the "save to favo.txt" and bookmark function, they were so useless. Also I dont like the risk to harm the card with mass-dldi read/writes
    - Buttons can be configured now
    - German only - Special characters are "translated" to ae,oe,ue now
    - You can change the font size while reading now (If a quote doesnt fit on the screen )
    - You now can define the minimum vote value for Top-Mode in your config file [Standart / No-DLDI = 0, so no negative voted quotes are shown]

Howto[for those to lazy to doubleclick on README]

    Quote
    Quickstart:

Configure WIFI with any official WiFi game like Mario Kart DS.
Copy DSBash.nds to your DS and start it.
If you dont want to use skinning or manual button configuration you dont need to patch it with DLDI.

    Skinning & Advanced configuration:
To use this you have to patch the rom with DLDI or your card has to support auto-DLDI patching.

Copy the "DSBash" folder inside this archive to your card.
[Put it there you want to... the application will search on the card for the folder]
DON'T RENAME IT! The app will explicit search for "DSBash".
Inside that folder there is a config.ini , open it in an editor.
Edit the config file as you want, I've put comments to everything, I hope they are understandable...
Note: For every skin you have to open a new tag
    [skinname]
And then write the config for it (like the blacknwhite one)
If a skin-file is set wrong the skin inside the ROM is used.
To change the activated skin you have to edit
    skin = blacknwhite;
on the top in the config file. So you can keep more than one skin-configuration in the file.

@Pictures: It has to be in the bmp format, 24bit or 8bit.

If you dont use the configuration file, here the standart button-config:
    Up/Down: Next/Previos quote
    A = Switch the screens
    Select = Reduce font size
    Start = Increase font size
Top quote / random quote / Latest quotes = Not defined. the standart buttons are very big

Crediar has released a new version of his Menu hack for the Wii that enables Region Free Wii and Gamecube although used wrongly can brick your Wii:

Starfall, formerly HackInstaller, is an application developed by Crediar to patch the system menu to include new features.

    Installation
Just run the application with the Twilight hack or Homebrew channel, or any other prefered method. Follow the on-screen instructions from there.

    Information
These hacks only work with the System Menu 3.2E(v290) or 3.2U(v289). If you have any other version, it will just return to the loader.

This tool does not update any SHA1 hashes or signatures. Currently IOS isn't checking those, but that could be fixed in a future update.

Just load it and carefully read the on screen stuff otherwise you won't be able to install it.

All hacks are optional and can be installed or removed separately.

The Rescue Menu is a built-in menu by Nintendo, it doesn't make your Wii unbrickable. If you install another System Menu, all hacks will be removed.

Your System Menu will only be patched, it won't be deleted. This makes the patch progress very brick safe.

    New features
    Replace healthwarning with backmenu
    Skip disc update check
    Features
Region free GC games with video mode patch
    Region free Wii games
    Region free channels
    No mainmenu BGM
Start rescue-menu when Y is held on 1st GC controller
    Remove rescue-menu diagnostic disc check
    Coming Soon
Wii region free with video patch
    Copy 'nocopy' savefiles
    more to come

A new computer game tipped to be the most violent ever is being released exclusively on the so-called 'family friendly' Wii console.

Nintendo will dramatically transform Wii's image with the release of ultra violent video game MadWorld which, 'revolves around the themes of brutality and exhilaration', according to its creators.

Players in the 'hack and slash' game, which is due for a UK release in early 2009, can impale enemies on road signs, rip out hearts and execute them with weapons including chainsaws and daggers.

The decision to release a violent game on a console which has based its reputation on family fun has shocked anti-violence pressure groups.

The game has not yet been given an age rating.

Mediawatch-UK, Britains longest running pressure group campaigning for decency in TV, films and games, said MadWorld will 'spoil' the Wii.

John Beyer, director of Mediawatch-uk, said: 'This game sounds very unsavoury.

'I hope the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) will view this with concern and decide it should not be granted a classification.

'Without that it cannot be marketed in Britain. What the rest of world does is up to them.
We need to ensure that modern and civilized values take priority rather than killing and maiming people.

'It seems a shame that the game's manufacturer have decided to exclusively release this game on the Wii.

'I believe it will spoil the family fun image of the Wii.'

Nintendo's Wii has enjoyed phenomenal success as an innocent alternative to complex - and often violent - role play video games.

With a repatoire of mostly sports games the basic graphics and easy-to-use motion sensor remotes have become hugely popular with young children and families.

MadWorld is significant departure designed to appeal to 'hardcore' gamers who they claim have been clammering for a more adult theme action game.

MadWorld is a third person game where players control a character called Jack in a virtual world called Varrigan City which is under siege by a group of terrorists known as The Organizers.

The alternative world has been turned into a twisted game show called Death Watch where citizens must kill one another to survive - and win.

The action in MadWorld - developed by PlatinumGames and published by Sega exclusively for Nintendo - is entirely in black and white. The only other colour is red for all the blood.

Players use the Wii remote to control the violent on-screen actions as central character Jack executes his way through the game.

A press release on the Sega website says: 'You play as Jack, whos caught up in the terror of Death Watch, the murderous game created by the terrorists who call themselves The Organizers.

'To remain alive, and solve the mystery behind Death Watch, you must master the use of weapons and items found within the environment and compete in ultra violent mini-games designed to push you over the edge.

'With its irreverent humour and over-the-top violence MadWorld delivers a visceral gaming experience that will be an instant classic on the Wii.'

Sean Ratcliffe, Vice President of Marketing, SEGA of America, Inc, said: 'MadWorld pushes the envelope with its extreme content but takes a step away from the dark and serious nature of most mature games.'

Released in 2006 the Wii has become a market leader with its original games appealing to a far broader age range than competitors like Sony's PlayStation and Microsoft Xbox 360.

Costing around £180 the consoles - which use wireless remotes to control the on-screen actions - have been hailed as the next generation of computer consoles.

While other consoles have focussed on better graphics the Wii has focussed on game play and the physical nature of their games.

It has since become hugely popular with very young children, families and even the elderly.

A spokesman from Nintendo, said: 'Wii appeals to a wide range of audiences from children and teenagers to adult and senior citizens, anyone from 5 - 95, as such there is a wide range of content for all ages and tastes available.

'Mad World will be suitably age rated through the appropriate legal channels and thus only available to an audience above the age rating it is given'

'The game is not made by Nintendo but by Sega.'

    Via PSPfanboy:

One of our longtime readers, Brian B., recently attempted to purchase the PSP camera, Chotto Shot. However, when he attempted to purchase the product, he got a strange, foreboding message from the retailer. "Due to a safety issue and high defect rate, we are issuing a product recall to anyone who has purchased a PSP Chotto Shot Camera after July 1st, 2008. Even though these units have been tested, we have been getting reports that some of these units have been running extremely hot, and have emitted a burning smell from the unit. An already dangerous and unfortunate situation, this could lead to the even more serious event of a fire starting from the unit."

According to the retailer, "the manufacturer is already aware of the problem." Considering the camera is not available in America, we cannot contact a SCEA representative to comment on this problem. However, a look at both import sites Play-Asia and NCSX show that the PSP camera is currently not in stock.

Powder is a fantastic game port of the same name developed by Jeff Lait for GBA and NDS. The port has been done by ParkyDR. The build 107 comes with a lot of good news in the mechanics of the game that are listed here.

The game is kind of Roguelike: RPG action shift which emphasizes the features (stats) of the characters and exploring dungeons with a high degree of randomness.
