Microsoft has finally announced the recommended retail price for the Halo 3 Special Edition Xbox 360 in the UK.

The console will sell for GBP 279.99 from September 26, with the confirmation following the price repositioning for the three other Xbox 360 models announced earlier this week.

"We are pleased to offer the cool Halo 3 Special Edition console for the huge Halo fan community," said Stephen McGill, Microsoft’s head of gaming and entertainment.

"It's a great way for Halo fans to show their allegiance to one of the most popular and successful entertainment franchises ever."

The console does not come with a copy of the highly-anticipated Halo 3, a game which itself comes in three different versions.

Featuring gold and green Halo 3 branding, the console comes with matching wireless controller, 20GB hard-drive and wired headset.

It also allows the users to access limited edition Gamer Pics and Themes for their dashboard, and comes with accessories including a Play & Charge Kit, one-month subscription to the Xbox LIVE Gold service and a Ethernet cable.

Halo 3 will be released in the US on September 25 and a day later in Europe. Microsoft announced earlier in the month that the game has broken the one million pre-order milestone in North America. ...

"We'll probably put out more hard bundles than the Starter Pack"

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has no plans to cut the price of PlayStation 3 according to president David Reeves, but the company will introduce new bundles with different games to help drive sales.

"What we're going to allow, and it doesn't need an announcement, is simply that we'll probably put out more hard bundles than the Starter Pack," Reeves told our sister site Eurogamer in an interview to be published later this week.

"We're not making any pricing announcements at Games Convention at all. There's none. And we don't have any plans in that regard. We're really happy with the way that things are going for the PAL business. We really are. It's on track."

Reeves also said that Sony chose not to announce new PS3 games during its press conference in Leipzig last night because it wants to make sure people are "focused on five or six games".

"We're not going to try and overload - I'm not trying to escape the question, I'm just saying we're not going to overload the consumer with too many new ones."

"It's important to get a window so that someone's played a game and they're ready for the next one, because they don't have huge wallets and they can't go out and buy five games at 59 Euros all the time. So we're trying to do pillar titles every month." ...

Microsoft has announced plans to provide a free retrofit for its Xbox 360 Wireless Racing Wheel which fixes a malfunction in the chassis that may cause the device to "smoke" when the AC/DC power supply is being used. According to Redmond, there haven't been any reports of fire, personal injury, or property damage -- though clearly the game-maker wants to address this problem before it's got a pile of lawsuits on its hands. Apparently, the wheel works just fine with battery power (which Microsoft suggests you use until the repair is made), though plugging it in could be a little dangerous. Unfortunate owners of the faulty product should get themselves over to the company's Xbox support page to get the ball rolling on their wheel surgery. ...

The idea of Wii sales passing up the Xbox 360 has seemed almost inevitable in the past months, as its motion-sensing gameplay and lovable pricetag have found plenty of fans in the Americas, Europe and especially in the Wii's native Japan. So far no official numbers have hit that have the Wii past its Microsoft rival, but Vgchartz.com's own homebrew numbers, gleaned from retailers worldwide, project the Wii is slightly ahead at 10.57 million consoles sold, compared to the 360's 10.51 million. These numbers are meant to project consoles sold, not consoles shipped, which gives the sold out Wii a slight edge. There's no telling when we'll get official numbers to know all this for sure, and the 360 still has a comfortable lead over the Wii in both Europe and the States, but it's looking like we'll have a new market leader in town soon enough ...

Hi all, any of you who are regular visitors to the DCEmu Homebrew Network will have noticed a lot of downtime lately, starting off with a few hours here and there to 2 days offline then onto the near 7 days offline and since then several times of several hours of downtime including today with a near 8 hours offline.

Me and Martin have been pulling our hair out and were convinced of an hardware fault but the server techs said nothing was wrong but finally today they admitted that the Hard Drive which hosts DCEmu had a problem and its been replaced.

So finally after whats been a rough month or so with numerous downtimes i can finally say we are back and the server has been optimised as much as can be to ensure no more downtimes even in the event of mega amounts of visitors to DCEmu, the uploading system is fully working also.

This is a very important time for Homebrew with breakthroughs in all sectors and never before has homebrew been so mainstream and in the public eye and DCEmu will be there to bring you all the homebrew news and releases.

Thanks as always to Martin for being there and kicking some German booty to ensure the server is working again. (pity the lads failed last night eh)

and remember DCEmu has its own Chatroom on efnet #dcemu where we hang about and talk about all manner of stuff :P. ...

Nervegas has released a new version of his Nes Emulator for the iPhone:

NES.app uses the popular InfoNES emulation core to mimic the 6502 processor in a Nintendo Entertainment System, allowing you to play ROM dumps of games designed for the NES console. ROM dumps are files containing the dumped instruction code from a physical cartridge. In many cases, you are legally entitled to posess a ROM dump of any game that you presently own. ROM images for NES are widely available online, or with the appropriate hardware, you can dump them yourself directly from the cartridge.

NES.app started as a fork based on the same original code as iPhoneNES, but has been completely rewritten to run very fast, and with many additional features such as sound, game genie, saved games, and full screen support.
