Reuters reported on Bully's boy-on-boy kissing, brilliantly dubbed "Warm Tea," by Sex in Video Games author Brenda Brathwaite. It's only a matter of time now before the Associated Press picks up the story and news outlets across the country jump into the fray. Depending on where you live on the planet Earth, you're sure to get various versions of spin on the story. So, it's a good time to go over some developments, and clear up some issues, since our initial piece:

Joystiq has been in contact with Eliot Mizrachi, spokesperson for the ESRB, and he reaffirms that they were aware of the kissing when they gave a "T" (Teen) rating to Bully. The rating description clearly states "sexual themes" on the box.

Bully is not the first title to have playable same-sex interaction. The Sims, which also has a "T" rating stating "sexual themes" on the box, allows for a lot more than just kissing. There is even same-sex adoption.

Brathwaite said to Reuters, "It's symbolic that the diversity that's appearing in broader media is making its way to games in a way that's not insulting or necessarily sensationalistic."

Everyone's favorite anti-games lawyer Jack Thompson, sent a letter to ESRB President, Patricia Vance, "We just found gay sexual content in Bully, as Jimmy Hopkins makes out with another male student. Good luck with your 'Teen' rating now, Patty." Let's get something straight right off the bat -- Thompson found nothing. His letter wasn't sent until after Joystiq wrote about GayGamer's video, and we know Thompson reads this site. Thompson was already in possession of Bully, which he requested as part of his political Miami lawsuit to block Bully. Thompson had his chance to make the kissing part of his lawsuit.

The blond student consistently showed is not the only boy Jimmy Hopkins can kiss. Apparently one boy from each clique is kissable. There is an African-American geek who can be kissed. So, not only is there gay kissing, but interracial gay kissing as well. (Please sense the sarcasm in that bullet point)
Rockstar still hasn't made a public statement. Why should they? This is a win/win situation for them. They've done nothing wrong and the ESRB stated that they were aware of the content when rating the game. The controversy has done nothing but fuel sales. Bully was the third top-selling game in the U.S. last week according to UBS.

The ESRB would be insane if they were bullied into giving an "M" (Mature 17+) rating to Bully, as this story continues to gain traction in the mainstream press. Not only is it politically damaging, they'd be instantly contacted by gay rights advocacy groups, propelling this controversy into a civil-rights issue asking, "Why is kissing a boy different than kissing a girl?" It would also force the ginormous Electronic Arts into the mix to defend the "T " rated Sims. We're willing to wager that Electronic Arts, which has a Human Rights Campaign corporate equality index score of 88 and had transsexual game designer Danielle Bunten Berry on staff, will put up a good fight if challenged. Rockstar played this brilliantly, they slid in a topic that is controversial, but perfectly defensible, and those that would attack "Warm Tea," won't have an easy time of it compared to "Hot Coffee." ...

Hi all, im sure like me you would love a release of PS1P, well while we wait our friend the Anonymous Coder has gave me a video for you all to check out, its a video of Final Fantasy 7 playing on PS1P, heres what the coder said in his email to me:

I've made a video of FF7 in-game using my crappy webcam. The video doesn't show any loadings or menus because as I've told you it takes around 1min to load and that would be boring... in any case, I don't feel like I need to prove anything more, if people don't trust your word then they won't trust my images any more

Note that, as you know, the emulation itself is a lot prettier than that... also there are some occasional hiccups, but that's the webcam's fault--the game runs completely smooth.

Gamepro.com is also one of a few who recently received their copy of Vice City Stories, and they posted a few interesting things you'd need to know about the game. Firstly, they confirm that while you can jump in the game, there isn't any wall climbing that came in very handy in GTA: San Andreas.

Secondly, cops can now swim. So don't expect to trick police officers in killing themselves by driving your Splitz into the water. They say to expect a few f-bombs in the game, although I doubt it's as bad as Saints Row. Cut Scenes are said to look better than LCS, while they aren't too happy with the nighttime in Vice City Stories. Playing in the sunlight can also cause frustration.

They also say there isn't much of a training mode in the game, and with the PSP's controls, even some of the first few missions can be a big challenge.

In a year full of strange (or unique, depending on your perspective) DS game ideas, perhaps the strangest (or most unique) was Konami's Stock Sales Trainer. Developed by Metal Gear Solid mastermind Hideo Kojima, this game promised to do for stock trading what Brain Age did for brain training.

The Konami game isn't even out yet, and we already have another stock trading game on the way. Capcom has announced Kabu Trader Shun (Stock Trader Shun) for the DS. Picture the Phoenix Wright series with stock trading instead of the courtroom drama, and you'll have the basic idea behind this unique adventure title.

In Kabu Trader, you play as Shun Aiba, an 18-year old who's always dreamed of being a stock trader. Shun has just been summoned by his father's sole pupil, Toru Narasaki, who promises to teach Shun the tricks of the trade.

In addition to offering all the story and dialogue of an adventure game, Kabu Trader features an action-based trading mode. You face off directly against rival traders in the game's Versus Trade battles, making use of special Trading Arts to reach monetary goals as quickly as possible. New Trading Arts can be purchased in a Trading Shop. You also earn new arts by improving your trading rank and advancing through the storyline.

During the versus trade battles, the top screen shows a stock price chart, with the bottom showing how much money you and your rival have. You can select to buy or sell stocks, but aside from this, we're not sure how this "battle system" works just yet.

The look of the game and its anime-style characters will remind some of the Phoenix Wright series. Like that series, the game uses cut-in animation scenes to intensify battle scenes. At a glance, one could mistake this for a stock-trading mini game in Capcom's popular courtroom drama series.

Despite the apparent similarities, the producer and director of Kabu Trader are different from those of Phoenix Wright. The producer of the new game is Tatsuya Kitabayashi, who previously produced Irregular Hunter X and Rockman Rockman for the PSP. The director is Ikuo Ando, who did planning on Demento and headed up scenario for Breath of Fighter V. In a recent interview conducted by Weekly Famitsu, the two revealed that development on Kabu Trader Shun began in Spring of 2005.

To get a first look at the title for yourself, head on over to the game's official flash website. Shun is the girlish guy with glasses. Toru is the dude with the goatee. The female character is Hanako Kirikagura, another one of Toru's students and the daughter in a family of entrepreneurs.

Stock Trader Shun is set for Japanese release in 2007. A US release hasn't been announced, but given the popularity of Phoenix Wright, we'd say it's a strong possibility.

    Karl, Birmingham, MI asks
Q: How can I get my girlfriend into playing video games?

    The Girl Next Door Answers:

Calling her over to watch as you pistol-whip a hooker in GTA or solve the riddle of the moon druids in Myst IV is not the way. Maybe you should buy that new Nintendo system with the stupid name, Wii. It was designed in part to suck video-game-dissing women into the virtual world. Personally, I'm addicted to Rockstar Games' Table Tennis and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Chaos Theory.
