Sony UKs managing director Ray Maguire has admitted that the company takes it time bringing products to market - but he argued that the PlayStation 3 is now hitting its stride as competing formats could be seen as past their peak.

"Yes, we might take a bit longer sometimes to bring a product to market, but when we do, we bring you the most powerful gaming platform ever to hit - and it will be something that will around for a very long time," said Maguire, speaking exclusively to GamesIndustry.biz.

"It's nowhere near even halfway through its lifecycle, and I could argue that some other competing formats are on their way down right now," he added.

Maguire said it's difficult fulfilling expectations and demands of consumers who want results immediately, joking that, "what we haven't worked out how to do yet is have a child in less than nine months."

On the forthcoming release of online social networking service Home, Maguire said it's crucial the product is finished on day one, rather than released to the public and patched at a later date.

"We have to make sure that things are born at the right time, that the infrastructures are right and are tested, and that they actually work. It's one of the things that PlayStation has been known for - a plug-and-play mentality, rather than a patch-patch mentality."

"Getting it right is more important than getting it out quick, and I think it's very difficult to make that decision, to hold something up, but again I think it was the right decision to make sure that we were defining along the line where it is that we're trying to go to."

The full interview with Ray Maguire will be published on GamesIndustry.biz tomorrow. ...

Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser says he's "not sure" if Grand Theft Auto IV's highly lauded downloadable content will be out this year.

Speaking to Variety's Cut-Scene blog during GTA IV's Japanese press rounds, Houser says that Rockstar hopes to announce something "in the next few weeks".

"It's going well," the creative VP told the site. "But we don't know a date. We hope to be announcing that in the next few weeks.

"We're still figuring out a few things. We're more focused on quality than dates, always have been. But the development is going really good. It's shaping up to be something we're very proud of. That was our goal".

Houser didn't offer details on what, other than the date, Rockstar will be announcing in the coming weeks but he says he wants to give people a rough idea on what to expect, "so their expectations are roughly in line".

"We don't want them to imagine it's this enormous thing that it can never be," he said.

"Doing a big digital launch is something we've never done before. It's virgin territory, but at the same time, we feel very exposed because there's no case history. No one ever came out with major DLC for a major game like this before." ...

Nintendo plans to release the quirky Art Style WiiWare games in Europe from 21st November.

These cost 600 Wii Points apiece (approximately GBP 4.20 / EUR 6), and are stylish remakes of the Bit Generations games for GBA.

All apart from Cubello, actually, which is an original creation. The idea is to eliminate cubes from spinning clusters by firing similarly-coloured blocks at them. There's a video and some pictures of Cubello in action on the official Nintendo website.

Then there's Rotohex - a remake of Dialhex, reviewed on the other side of the blue words - where falling panels have to be rotated to make a hexagon. Head-to-head multiplayer is included, and completing hexagons here rewards players with an unhelpful block to use on opponents.

Or there's space-themed gravity game Orbient. Based on Bit Generations game Orbital, the idea is to guide a star through a galaxy using the gravitational pull of nearby planets. And advancing to other galaxies means eating the sun, which means eating blue stars to grow along the way.

All three games are out in the US, incidentally, and appear to be notching up favourable reviews. Look out for our thoughts on the Art Style series soon. ...

Rare has about-turned and decided to fix the problem with text that occurs when Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts is played on a standard definition telly.

"We would like to assure you that, contrary to earlier reports, we are aware of the issue and currently working on a title update to be released within the next 30 days that will fix it for those with standard definition TVs," Rare Community manager George Kelion told MundoRare.

"We're committed to ensuring all fans of the franchise are able to have the best experience possible with Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts."

Kelion had previously told us a fix was "simply something that's too expensive in terms of time, resources and money to alter".

Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts will be released to the public this Friday.

Head over to Eurogamer's Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts review for our verdict. ...

DICE has released the Battlefield: Bad Company Community Choice Pack on Xbox Live.

The bundle is free and contains two single-player levels transformed into multiplayer areas. These were voted the best candidates by fans of the game, and DICE picked a couple of its own, too, taking the tally up to four.

Par For the Course and Acta Non Verba emerged as community favourites after voting began in September, while DICE chose to convert Crossing Over and Ghost Town.

Battlefield: Bad Company was released over the summer and took a more single-player, story-based approach to the series - although a deep and varied online component was also included. ...

Microsoft's Gears of War 2 for the Xbox 360 has beaten Sony's PS3 hope LittleBigPlanet to the top of the All Formats charts in the UK.

Both titles are exclusive to their respective formats, and LittleBigPlanet even benefited from a sales head-start – being released on November 5, two days before Gears' November 7 release.

But data from GfK Chart-Track shows Epic's highly-anticipated shooter entered the charts at number one, enjoying the third-best week-one sales for a 360 title, behind GTA IV and Halo 3.

LittleBigPlanet was originally due for release October 24, but was delayed globally while Sony removed part of the games soundtrack.

The Media Molecule-developed title debuted at number four in the chart, beating THQ's newly-released WWE Smackdown Vs RAW 2009 at five.

Nintendo's Professor Layton and the Curious Village entered the charts at number six, while Guitar Hero: World Tour broke the top twenty at 17.

Sony's other PlayStation 3 exclusive MotorStorm: Pacific Rift didn't perform strongly in its first week, only entering the charts at number 29, just ahead of Ubisoft's new Tom Clancy franchise, EndWar, at 30.

The full top ten for the UK follows:

    1. Gears of War 2
    2. FIFA 09
    3. Fallout 3
    4. LittleBigPlanet
    5. WWE Smackdown Vs RAW 2009
    6. Professor Layton and the Curious Village
    7. Mario Kart Wii
    8. Quantum of Solace

The accessory is sold separately at an MSRP of $29.99 and will also be available as a bundle with Animal Crossing: City Folk at select retailers at an MSRP of $69.99. Ghostbusters has not been canned. Ghostbusters is coming out next year. Don't thank us, thank Atari.

"Ghostbusters: The Video Game is a fantastic addition to Atari's global line-up in 2009," said Phil Harrison, President of Atari's parent company, Infogrames. "The title has built considerable anticipation and excitement among game fans for its high quality action and all-out mayhem. There's no more thrilling Ghostbusting experience to be had, short of building your own proton pack."

Just in case you need a top-up, here's some official blurb:

Ghostbusters: The Video Game was penned by original Ghostbusters writers Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd and reunites members of the original cast for the first time in 20 years.

Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson lend their voices and in-game likenesses to the original story set two years after Ghostbusters II, with Manhattan once again overrun by ghosts and supernatural forces.

The game also features performances from fan favourites such as William Atherton (Walter Peck), Annie Potts (Janine Melnitz) and Brian Doyle-Murray (portraying Mayor Jock Mulligan).

Ghostbusters is coming to PS3, PS2, 360, PC, Wii and DS. Basically you will be playing it when it comes out. Or at least be near someone who is. ...
