PS3 is the best console in the world, and no other publisher can match Sony's group of internal studios.

That's according to Heavy Rain creator David Cage, who says Quantic Dream won't be creating any games for Xbox again any time soon.

Quantic's previous biggest title, Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy in the US), was available on PC and Xbox - and has been reissued by Microsoft as an Xbox Original on 360.

An internet snooper could have stumbled upon more domain names pointing to preparations for Grand Theft Auto V.

The GTAForums user known as "Rpg_" brought a whole host of new URLs apparently registered by Rockstar.

Just like the web addresses found towards the end of last month, many featuring on this long list of new brands have more than a GTA feel to them. Others could be related to absolutely anything.

As always these are just potential clues adding to growing rumour and speculation, but they're definitely worth a look:

    News via http://wololo.net/wagic/2011/03/21/s...ding-the-word/
Update: a few points of clarification: this article, as most articles on my blog, is a personal opinion. I am not a journalist, and this is not a news website. I am disappointed as a (long time) customer by Sony’s attitude (not only in this lawsuit, but in general), so I decided to raise my voice, as a customer and a developer. I decided to stop buying Sony’s products, but I am not calling for a boycott of any kind. I just wanted to show that not everybody agrees with what Sony is currently doing, and I expect some of the readers of this article to disagree with me, this is how we can get interesting discussions on the subject. The more people talk about it, the best. The worst would be for this lawsuit to go under the radar.
Sony America is suing Geohot for the whole PS3 jailbreak thing. Hopefully my opinion on the subject is clear: I believe Sony deserve to lose this lawsuit.
I’ll try to give details below, by discussing a few arguments I’ve seen on the internet.
Sony have no choice but to lock their system if they want to protect their business

The goal of most hackers around the world is to give freedom to hardware/software owners. The goal of hardware/software companies, like all companies, is to make money. These two goals are not incompatible. Some software and hardware companies manage to make lots of profits without locking their system. Like it or not, Windows is a good example of such a system. Last time I checked, you are still allowed to run Openoffice on windows. You are still allowed to run Skype. You are still allowed to run Firefox. Actually, the last time Microsoft even tried to make their own product more “visible” on their own platform, it backfired.
I’m shocked that companies such as Sony or Apple haven’t been sued by the European Commision yet, given how devices such as the iPhone or the PS3 revolve around a huge customer locking system (locking the user in a hardware/software/distribution system vicious circle).
Sony have no choice but to lock their system in order to protect game developers and the future of video gaming

Ask that to real game developers, not to Sony. One of the major reasons for Sony to lock their gaming system is to have control on both the customers and the game developers. By adding a DRM system to their console, they guarantee that game developers cannot sell a game for the PS3 without Sony getting a good share of the money. They are also using their huge power on the video game market to ensure that they get exclusive content (at least for a given period of time, such as Final Fantasy 13), preventing the devs from making money on other platforms. They are not trying to protect video games, but their business.
Systems such as Android, Windows, or Linux, prove that you can have a system with lots of applications and games, without locking the hardware in a single distribution system.
Hackers do this for piracy, and cheating in games

In their lawsuit against Geohot, Sony are using clever marketing techniques to make Geohot look like the bad guy. One of the most obvious ones is the major confusion (blindfully transmitted by so-called “technological websites”) that they intentionally create between hackers, cheaters, and pirates.
Hackers are people who like to understand how their hardware works. If the PS3 was a car, being a hacker would be equivalent to opening your trunk and see how the engine works, or tweak the engine in order for it to work with solar energy rather than gasoline.
(Online) cheaters are the guys who headshot you in Modern Warfare. Let me make one thing clear: Hackers and Cheaters are NEVER the same guys, because hackers rarely spend their time playing, and when they do, they are ethical about it. If the PS3 were a car, cheaters would be the people taking a parking spot for the handicapped, or not stopping at the red light, just because they think it’s fun.
Pirates are the people who play illegal copies of games. If the PS3 were a car, pirates would be the people using the highway for free. They don’t contribute to the cost of the highway, making it more expensive for the other users. Again, I tend to believe that hackers are not pirates, because they have other fish to fry.
My point here, beside the crappy car metaphor, is that Sony is trying to have “normal” customers believe that hackers are the same thing as pirates and cheaters, which is not the case. They are suing the wrong guy.
The PS3 hack by Geohot and fail0verflow made the PS3 gaming experience less enjoyable because of online cheaters

Hackers did not put the bad programming in the PS3 security system, it was here in the first place, and they just found it. The same goes for game cheats such as Modern Warfare issues online. It’s not hackers’ fault if this game had a badly programmed security scheme. Additionally, hackers such as Geohot or fail0verfl0w did not program these cheating tools.
It’s a well known fact in all IT companies that security in online systems should be handled on the server side. Would you trust a bank

There will be nearly 30 3D-enabled games on the PlayStation 3 by the end of 2011, Sony has promised.
A graphic posted on the PlayStation Blog titled "The Year of 3D" made the pledge, pointing at Uncharted 3, SOCOM 4 and Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One as among the highlights.
It also provided some stats to show how 3D uptake on the console was gathering pace.
Apparently 20 per cent of all Killzone 3 single player demo downloads were in 3D, and there were more than 83,000 downloads of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit 2011: The 3-D Experience Exclusive Sneak Peek in one week earlier this year.
"Apparently, we're not the only ones ready for winter to be over," commented Sony communications manager J T Tidwell.
"PS3 continues to serve as the home for all things 3D entertainment," he added elsewhere in the blog post. Come this Friday, Nintendo might have something to say about that.

ThatotherDev a Coder who has released homebrew for the PS3, Nintendo Wii, Nintendo DS and Windows has posted this news:

There is a lot of stuff I want to work on. Regardless of whether or not its mentioned here let me know if there is a specific project of mine that you would like to see me focus more on or something you would like to see done with any specific project.

So I sent in my submission to the competition. I ended up just shortening the title to Winter’s End. I’m not really sure how I feel about it. I think it turned out really nicely except its not really a game. But anyways it should be posted in the next few days so you can try it for yourself then. I’m not going to bother trying to rush in an updated in the next few hours before the competition closes but I might go back and update it eventually.

There is a simple 2D platformer that I’ve been meaning to make (primarily for GP2X, Wii). I could probably put it together in one or two days.

I’m considering to at least try to do some software 3D stuff on GP2X… Ray casting and/or polygonal.

I was thinking of also updating the GP2X version of Revolt Of The Binary Couriers to fix up some things and bring it more inline with the Wii version (which got an update ages ago). But its such a mess that I would really prefer to just start fresh. In which case would anybody be at all interested in there being a third entry in the Pineapple Apocalypse RPG series? It would obviously be for GP2X, Wii, PC and depending on the state of the PSL1GHT SDL port potentially also PS3. There is a lot of new stuff I would like to add. Maybe this time I might actually include some kind of narrative or goal…

I want to port the GP2X version of Cascade Beneath to Wii.

I would like to do a sequel to Swing Ball with polygonal graphics and maybe a mode with 3D gameplay. It would be primarily for Wii.

I want to remake Time Frack and Time Frack 2D. I like the idea of them and it bothers me that I abandoned them both in such incomplete and buggy stages of development. Time Frack 2D would at a minimum be on both GP2X and Wii (with a lazy port of the Wii version to PC). I don’t know what platform the non 2D version would be for. Maybe PC/PS3?

There is also the unannounced new game that I’ve already begun working on for the upcoming Nintendomax competition.

I would like to do something for DS/DSi and Wii for the GBAtemp competition. I seem to remember reading somewhere that it was alright to submit the same game to both it and the Nintendbomax competition but I would prefer to do something unique to each. Maybe I could do the new Swingball or Time Frack 2D game for it.

Then there is PS3. I’m going to finally try out PSL1GHT (most likely using the newly released Devkit Pro addon) in a few days. I’ll probably just put together a simple hello world style program with some pretty graphics to familiarize myself with using it.

I want to do a quick PSL1GHT remake/update of the PS3 version of Maze Generator, Cubicle Shooter, Dont Get Crushed, Cascade Beneath, Neo Tanks, Neo Race, and The Untitled Project.

I want to completely restart on making The World Drowns from scratch and write a series of tutorials showing how it was made and how to develop for PS3.

Depending on how well SDL works on it I would also like to quickly port all of my Wii SDL games to PS3 (its a reasonably long list).

On the subject of SDL games I would like to do some more Tick Tock stuff. A boat racing game, a stealth action game, a zombie shooter (a lot like They Do Not Die) and eventually a moddable open world game.

Quad Charging Port Station PS Move Navigation
    Manufacturer: PEGA
    Site: Buy from LighTake
    Price: $20.29

Overview : Keep your PlayStation Move Controllers fully charged, and ready to use, while keeping everything organized in a small, elegant charging station. Since Sony PlayStation Move controllers (The Navigation Controller and the Motion Controller) have internal rechargeable batteries, operating this charging base is simple. Just stand the Move controllers vertically on the base. You can recharge your controllers, without having to plug cables into them, or your PlayStation 3 Console. This Charging Station is powered by an AC adapter, which means nothing will have to occupy a USB ports on your console in order to recharge all your gear.

    Features :

    • Brand New Quadruple Port Charging Station for PlayStation 3 Move Controllers
    • Compatible with PlayStation Move controllers
    • Charges both the Move navigation controller and Move motion controller on one easy to use base
    • Quickly charges the internal rechargeable batteries
    • Know when they are fully charged with the included LED Indicator light
    • Stylishly keeps your controllers Organized and out of the way while not in use
    • Powered by an included AC 100~240V adapter (US plug)

    Specifications :

    • Color: Black
    • Dimensions (L*W*T): 11.6 x 11.6 x 3.0 cm
    • Weight: 144.0g

    Package Included :

    • 1 x Quadruple Port Charging Station for PlayStation 3 Move Controllers
    • 1 x AC Charger

Quality/Usability : To refresh and update the PlayStation 3 (and to compete), Sony released a controller similar to Nintendo's Wiimote and Nunchuk for the Wii known as the PlayStation Move and Navigation controllers. Like all wireless controllers, they operate on battery whether it be disposable or rechargeable. The most economical would be rechargeable. Wit the Move and Navigation controller, the batteries are not removable. They are built in to the controller. You can charge the controller via USB cable but that is a lot of USB cables (1 for each controller, up to 4). A better solution would be to use a charging station.

The Quad Charging Port Station for the PS Move and Navigation controller does just that. It charges up to four controllers at one time. Each controller sites into their little charging port. The two front ports are for Navigation controllers and the two rear ports are for the Move controllers. You can charge each controller separately, charge them in pairs or charge all four of them at one time.

The charging station is made of plastic. Compared to some other charging stations on the market, the station is sturdy but the plastic felt cheap. This isn't a bad thing as I expected it from PEGA but all that matters is that the product works and does what it's suppose to do...which it does. I was able to fully charge my controllers within 2 hours. When placed onto the station, there are LEDs for each port. This lets you know when the controller are charging. It would have been nice if the charging station discharged any remaining battery in the controller and performed a full charge.

The Quad Charging Port Station comes with a AC power adapter (US). If you live in a different country, you will need a converter/adapter to fit your countries wall outlet. I like the fact that it does not require a USB port to get its power in order to charge the controllers.

Conclusion : Overall, the Quad Charging Port Station PS Move Navigation does what it is suppose to do in charging the Move and Navigation controllers. The station plugs into a wall outlet but the station does not deplete any remaining battery before fully charging the controllers. I personally like to recondition my rechargeable batteries as this pro-longs the battery life whether it be camera, cellphone or any electronics. So in order to do so, I have to play until the battery are completely dead. It would of been a nice feature as I can stop playing when I want, station depletes any remaining battery and will begin to charge when its completely dead. Unfortunately, if you use any silicone skins for your Move controllers, you will have to take them off the controller or at least the bottom since it will not fit in the port.

Somehow, Square Enix seems to have been convinced to actually release its old games on PSOne Classics. Last week's Parasite Eve is being followed with another gem out of the company's back catalog this week: Legend of Mana.

The sidequest-heavy, somewhat open-ended Legend, which allows players to use "Artifacts" to create and then explore in-game areas, may not have been as well-received as the SNES's Secret of Mana, but it's certainly not a bad game either. And it's much better suited for PSOne Classics release anyway, since it was a PlayStation game.

So here's a dilemma that some gamers may have faced: do you want a console with great processing power but coupled with some glowing lollipops, or one with futuristic controller-free motion gaming at the cost of Blu-ray playback? Well, for us mere mortals it's either one or the other, but Shantanu Goel went ahead to combine the best of both worlds: Xbox Kinect on a PS3. The video above is our man demonstrating his early software mod, which can currently recognize basic gestures like quickly pushing your hand towards the screen twice to activate the X button, as well as the usual waving around for navigation. While it's obvious that this project is still at its infancy, Goel's already working on beefing it up by adding full game profiles and skeletal tracking support, so with a bit of help from the community, hopefully it won't be long before we get to liberally throw grenades in Killzone 3 without having to worry about damaging the TV. Maybe Kevin Butler will also see the lighter side of things, too.

PCs aren't just a bit more powerful than PS3 and Xbox 360 - they're up to 10 times more powerful. So why aren't PC games 10 times their console equivalents? Because of Windows' meddling DirectX API (application programming interface), that's why.
"It's funny. We often have at least 10 times as much horsepower as an Xbox 360 or a PS3 in a high-end graphics card, yet it's very clear that the games don't look 10 times as good," scoffed AMD graphics card mouthpiece Richard Huddy to Bit-Tech.
"To a significant extent that's because, one way or another and for good reasons and bad - mostly good - DirectX is getting in the way."
Huddy added: "I certainly hear this ['make the API go away'] in my conversations with games developers."
DirectX is made by Microsoft. To run a game on Windows - the most popular PC operating system around - you need to use DirectX. In simple terms, it's DirectX that controls what your graphics card can do.
On console that's not the case: developers there can program "direct-to-metal", as Huddy calls it.
"By giving you access to the hardware at the very low level, you give games developers a chance to innovate, and that's going to put pressure on Microsoft – no doubt at all," Huddy went on to say.
"If we drop the API, then people really can render everything they can imagine, not what they can see – and we'll probably see more visual innovation in that kind of situation."
What sort of nut-case developer would want to program "direct-to-metal" on PC, you ask? Crysis maker Crytek; "Yes, that would appeal to us,' the developer said.
The Xbox 360 supports DirectX 9.0c. The PS3 doesn't use DirectX, what with it being a Microsoft technology. The most current version of DirectX is 11.
