Comical XBLA game Pirates vs. Ninjas Dodgeball is taking the fight to Nintendo as Gamecock confirms a new Wii version.

"Pirates vs. Ninja Dodgeball will have scurvy thieves squaring off against crafty martial artists in large, detailed arenas," says Gamecock.

It's not just pirates and ninjas in there either: robots and zombies and three other wacky teams go at it in the Wii version, which will boast a new story and challenge modes, and some new Remote-waving controls.

Just don't lob your Remote through the telly.

Sony has updated the PlayStation Store with The Last Guy for PS3 and the Warhawk: Operation Fallen Star add-on pack.

The Last Guy is a top-down game where players try and rescue civilians from a city overrun by monsters, and costs GBP 4.99. Look out for our review soon.

Operation Fallen Star, meanwhile, introduces jetpacks and ten new battlefields among other things, and goes for GBP 3.99.

Otherwise there's a demo of NHL 09 from EA (free, obviously), and Buzz! Junior Jungle Party for GBP 3.49, which is an add-on for Buzz! Quiz TV, as far as we can make out, presumably based on the PS2 release of the same name. It's billed as a "Game Pack" on the Store, but we're double-checking.

And of course if you still have time after all that, there's the usual collection of trailers (HAWX, Far Cry 2, Super Stardust HD tips vids) and a new, free graffiti theme, as well as a Pipe Mania demo for PSP owners. ...

It's harder to single out Nintendo for overlooking its "core audience" when you find out things like this. Speaking with GamesIndustry, Shuhei Yoshida, Sony's head of worldwide studios, revealed that the company chose to fund development of a virtual pet – EyePet – over a promising core audience action title, Eight Days.

When asked about the affect that canceling London Studio projects The Getaway 3 and Eight Days had on other titles, Yoshida responded, "There are so many things that we want to do, more than we can do with the resources. So when London Studio was looking at the early work on EyePet and the prototype of Eight Days, they knew they couldn't do all of them." So ... EyePet it was.

Granted, we don't know with any certainty that Eight Days was going to be any good, but an original action IP on a still very core audience console would seem like something worth investing more time in over a ... virtual pet.

Yohshida also said regarding the London Studio that, "There are even more things they're working on at early concept stage." Tip for the staff there: If you don't want your big games canned, don't mention your "pet" projects to Shuhei the next time he pops in for a visit. ...

Face it, asking for fighting games with online to have zero to no lag is a tall order. Replicating that versus arcade experience is hard. Heck, when Virtua Fighter launched on the PS3 back in early 2007, it didn't have online. (Well, neither did the PS3, really.) Even Street Fighter IV producer Yoshinori Ono even admits that lag will be problematic for the home versions. Up front and honest, he tells the Official Xbox 360 Magazine:

Obviously lag will be a huge problem for online play. We're working on it. Compared to other games such as Virtua Fighter and Soul Calibur, they've got replay functions and so forth. It's quite difficult for 3D Street Fighter at the moment.

In order to prevent the lag we're thinking about trying to balance it up at user interface level and input timing by using joystick or something like that. We still haven't got a complete plan as yet. We're still working on it. That's all we can say at the moment.

Here's hoping they figure something out. ...

Welcome to this week's Games Update, our weekly summary featuring all new product arrivals from the last seven days.

The games released this week are encouraging gamers to take control of the last days of their summer holidays and visit various places around the world.

Afrika, a.k.a Hakuna Matata gives gamers cameras and a set of equipment and take them throughout Africa to photograph animals for publishers and other well known environmental protection organizations.

This game is produced under the supervision of scholars and biologists and was used to promote the graphical capabilities of the PlayStation3, come safari in the African plains and experience nature.

Travel back time to the age of where Norse mythology and technology are blended together. Such a world is both intriguing and dangerous, especially in Too Human where you live amongst flawed gods and war machines. Join the ranks of said flawed gods and give up your human body for humanity in this epic adventure.

Since we are in the fantasy realm anyway, lets travel enroute to the world of Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice [US & Asia Versions] and visit the school of evil. In this game you have to be good to be bad, in other words, if you do good deeds, you will become a delinquent. To overthrow his father, the Overlord of the Underworld, Mao has to become a hero.

A demon turning into a hero itself promises a unique adventure that defies common logic, but a hero who wants to regain popularity, too would lead to a comical journey.

Captain Rainbow, the alter ego of the geeky Nick is traveling to an eastern island called the Mimintou to collect stars to have his wish come true. Parodying several superheroes from hit American comics, Captain Rainbow will give you a good laugh.

Sometimes you don't need to travel far to have fun, you just need to be with a group of eccentric people. Stay in an old mansion in To Love Ru: Trouble: Waku Waku! Rinkangakkou-Hen [standard & limited editions] with a group of eleven girls. One of them is an alien whom you have growing affections for and the other is your long time crush, what would you do in this period?

Re-explore your hometown in Fate/ Tiger Colosseum Upper for a series of excitement. The battles for the Tiger Grail has once again started in Fuyuki City where the cast of Fate/ Stay Night characters reside.

This time, the city is invaded by characters from Type Moon such as Arc, transformed into a cat girl. The vampire princess is going to be a catalyst for the snow balling of the comedic chaos.

Make use of the remaining days of your holidays to learn golf from Tiger Woods' mentor in PGA Tour 09 or plan to organize your soccer team when you go back to school.

Inazuma Eleven is a game about team work and soccer. You are the captain of a dying soccer club in school, star scout the ace striker who has recently been transfered to your school, build up a net of trust amongst your teammates and join in junior championships that would mark the height of your school days.
