ScummVM for the GP2X - Alpha Test Release 6 - 0.9.0 CVS

1st big public release (not on IRC) as I have too many people to send links to now .

This is a test release of ScummVM for the GP2X, it would be appreciated if this alpha test distribution was not mirrored and that people be directed to http://www.distant-earth.com/scummvm instead, until the port is a little more mature, to ensure people download the most recent builds.

This build is still in a very heavy state of development and as such no ‘expected’ behaviour can be guaranteed .
I tested with firmware 1.2.1 for reference.

INCLUDED ENGINES:

Scumm - (All 320*2xx SCUMM engine games EXCEPT Humongous Entertainment and Scumm Version 7/8 games).
Simon - (Simon the Sorcerer one and two).
Sky - (Beneath a Steel Sky).
Kyra - (The Legend of Kyrandia) – This engine is still under heavy development in ScummVM, however the game is playable.
Gob - (Goblins one)
Queen - Fate of the Amazon Queen

All other game engines are disabled in this release.

SUPPORTED AUDIO OPTIONS:

Raw audio.
MP3 audio.
OGG Vorbis audio (this may be problematic, I just made some big changes to my Tremor code).

RECENT CHANGES:

Remapped button layout to match NK’s ScummVM Korean port. (This is subject to change, feedback appreciated).
Note: Stick click also works as a pseudo ‘select’ button allowing you just use the stick to walk around screens.
Refined audio hacks to reduce audio delay to about 18MS rather then 30MS in Alpha 5.
Now built using SDL 1.2.9 for the parts of the port that use SDL (some parts now hit the hardware directly).
Aspect Ratio Correction can now be disabled ‘per game’. When adding a game you can find this option on the GFX tab.
Note: This will cause the game to run with a black border at the bottom as it will be rendered to a 320*200 frame.

command line support:
'nrtm' means it will not reload /usr/gp2x/gp2xmenu on exit (needed if you run from command line and want your bash prompt back, or you run from a non-standard launcher maybe)
'load=fooble' will load the rom 'fooble' on startup

eg:
squidgesnes.gpe nrtm load=roms/mario.smc

menu support:

If no "load=" command line parameter is used, default is to present a menu. In this menu joystick click and "B" is used for accept, whilst "A" is used for "escape". It also integrates a rom browser. Only filenames at the moment, but it will be enhanced further.

menu is skinnable, files are in the 'skin' folder. replacement files should be the same format (bmp, 24 bpp).

Installation of this version:

This version uses multiple files. Extract the entire archive somewhere onto your sd (directory doesn't matter, but I create a 'squidgesnes' directory in the root of my sd card) and run the gpe file. The directories "roms" and "skin" must be in the same directory as the executable, as everything is accessed using relative paths.

YDICT is an dictionary homebrew application for psp users. This unofficial mod edition includes an Oxford dictionay which is not only a English-Chinese but also an English-English dictionary. So if you don't speak Chinese you can still enjoy it. The new features include:

1. Most pronunciations now can be displayed properly. But some of them ...You learn the pronunciations at your own risk

2. Bugs fixed. Now the new ring keyboard is very stable and should be more easy to use.

3. Chinese and English are displayed in different colors.

4. Other trival changes.

Finally, I've received my GP2x AC adapter from PlayAsia. The specs is 2.0A and 3.2V, and I needed a plug adapter since it came with 220v plug only. The adapter takes 100~240v, and 3.2V is much higher than my Sanyo AAs can provide (2.4V). As the result, I don't see flickering any more! It's smooth looking and I don't have to worry about losing power any more. Overall, I'm very happy with it except for the bonehead placement of adapter plug on GP2x. Yes, I can use the unit fine, but couldn't they move the plug somewhere else so that it doesn't get inbetween my right hand fingers? I guess, I'm asking too much. Anyway, it's a winner and I would recommend it to anyone who's interested. ...

The PSP TV Adaptor lets you hook up your PSP to your home television (NTSC and PAL) via Composite and Stereo connectors. This adapter requires no modification of your PSP console. This new peripheral takes a completely different approach and clips on top of your PSP screen, with two screws to fit at the back of the handheld (in these two holes you can see on the top of the UMD drive). Some sort of pyramid grows from the base, with a precision lens and mirror system at the top, capturing the image and light, in a similar way a scanner or camera would. It then converts it into a video signal that is sent through video leads going from the adapter to your TV set.

Well This is my second PSP revolution mod named DDR max: night/midnight fever.Now i must say the idea and the title that i made for this MOD are wierd. Many people whom i showed the screens too all wondered how did i come out with the title and the theme. It was quite wierd really. IT JUST CAME TO ME . I decided to get more into PSP revolution modding as the game needs to be varied more and decided to make another one. I was browsing through my photoshop brush equipment to get some new ideas. suddenly i ran into this brush that had some creepy looking trees along with grass flowers and other stuff... And it Just came to me... why not make a dark scary looking forest that is 480x272 dimensional and listen to dance music. at that time i also got creative with the arrows and arrow top sections. It was a strange idea indeed But surprisingly IT ACTUALLY looks great. ESPECIALLY once you see it on the psp screen.i even put some songs that i think? would kinda synch in with the setting. Try it out and see what you think.

Technichly this is an unfinished mod because this mod got me interested and i want to improve more than just the arrows and such. I am planning to re- design all of the original PSP revolution design to best fit this mod. Comments suggestions are appreciated as well as creative ideas for my next design. re designing this might take a week or two depending on the amount of free time i have... anyway... yea thats how i got the whole scary forest rave theme.

I think its time we adopted the PSP News name as our true name which means a new banner for the site to replace the PSP Emulation News banner, we are so much more than just an emulation and homebrew news site and forums, we are probably one if not the most active true source of news for PSP around, but to be that we need the help of all of you to spread the news of this site and also if you have any PSP related news and projects then let us know and we will (if they are newsworthy) promote them, we arent shy of linking to sites so send that news in
