Buried in a press release announcing D3Publisher of Europe has hired some dude we've never heard of as Managing Director is some news about a game we're rather fond of. Way at the bottom it says a follow up to Puzzle Quest is on the way for this year.

Now, D3 has already announced that it is working with Infinite Interactive, the developer of Puzzle Quest, on another puzzle/rpg hybrid called Galactrix. It is possible this is what it means by "follow up." Then again, Puzzle Quest was such a huge success the publisher will surely want to capitalize on that particular brand.

GalactrixLook for D3 to make an official announcement about whatever this follow up is at GDC in a couple weeks.

In a one-on-one interview between Microsoft Game Studios VP Kim and New York Times reporter Seth Schiesel during the DICE Summit in Las Vegas, Schiesel pointed out how Xbox 360's 2008 software lineup pales in comparison to a year that saw BioShock, Mass Effect, Halo 3, The Orange Box and other heavy hitters.

The 2008 games lineup just doesn't seem as "stacked" as last year, Schiesel said.
"I think the pipeline is very stacked. You just don't know about it," Kim laughed coyly.

But at a glance, it would seem that Microsoft's exclusive library has taken a potential hit. Last year, Activision acquired Bizarre Creations, developer of Project Gotham Racing.
There's also the Electronic Arts acquisition of BioWare, which developed the Xbox 360 exclusive Mass Effect, leaving that franchise's exclusivity in question.
And of course there was the much-publicized split between Microsoft and Halo developer Bungie.

Is Microsoft losing control of its gaming library?
"It is a very fluid industry," said Shane. "...When these things happen in rapid succession, we can't control the actions of other publishers."

"I'd say that the generation still has a long way to go. It's way too early to declare a winner here. We still have tremendous momentum here," said Kim.

    News/release from Red Squirrel

RS Psar Dumper by Red Squirrel
    http://redsquirrel.forumitalian. com

    What's?
RS Psar Dumper is a "derivated" from classical Psar Dumper (last version of which was released by HelldashX).
Its functions are the same of classical Psar Dumper (so dump Firmware from an Official Udpater Eboot), but it's more! Infact this version has a user interface full of colors, more interactive and especially it has the new important function to make a dump of Firmware directly on PC, without using Memory Stick!
Infact this Homebrew has a USBHostfs connection function with a PC, so the program can read eboot directly from Hard Disk (that is a good profit because new Sony Updater Eboots weigh also more than 20Mb!) and it can also dump the Firmware directly on PC, so Memory Stick is NEVER used during the process!

Attention: v3 does NOT violate any Sony Copyright!
Infact if you use it under a 3.80 (or more) Firmware, the program try to get NATIVE support for decompress KL3E (to decompress reboot.bin) and the oldest 2LRZ (to decompress <=3.73 firmwares).
KL4E in this case is decrypted using an import exported by UtilsForKernel function.

    What is the effective profit?
    1. Well, first of all homebrew does not require free space on Memory Stick (that can be full too!)
    2. You spare time because you do not need to copy files betwenn PC and Memory Stick!
    3. Extracting and Dumping process require a very smaller time!
An example? Look to this my little "experiment":

    Process:
3.71 firmware dumping from the Official Updater Eboot

    Technical data:
Eboot of 22,5Mb (biggest released from Sony!).
Memory Stick used: Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo 2GB (that released with PSP pack!).
Process used: the most "onerous", so PSAR loading with extraction e decrompression of the Firmware (SQUARE key in the homebrew)

    Result:
-"Classical" process executed on Memory Stick: about 90 seconds of waiting...
-"New" process executed on PC Hard Disk through USBHOSTFS: about 25 seconds of waiting...

    Conclusions:
Using new USBHOSTFS function you can gain more than one minute!
And then I do not calculate great times necessary to copy eboot from PC to Memory Stick, times that with USBHOSTFS are void!

    Features
    v3.0
-Added the support for complete KL4E/KL3E decryption
-Increased the 3.90 Firmware support, now it's complete at 100%!
-Program will tell you what sort of decryption support you have.
-Now RSPsar Dumper is ready to use, NO other file is required!
    -No copyright or licenses violation.

Videogame script writer Tom Jubert has drawn a parallel between the state of videogame storylines and cinema and reckons game plot is still in the black and white era.

"It seems contradictory to suggest film is capable of doing just that, but that gaming is somehow different - there's not a leg to stand on", Jubert told CVG when asked if he views videogames as a palatable medium through which to offer commentary on topical issues.

"Gaming's an unfortunate term we've been saddled with", Jubert, who has worked on the Penbumra horror adventures and Black & White 2, added.

He says that a lot of games, especially those of a few years ago, are intellectually akin to a game of tennis, or Snakes & Ladders, but these days that's not really a fair appraisal as interactive entertainment is better.

"Of course," Jubert continued, "topical relevance being palatable and it actually occurring is a different story.

"Blacksite gets a lot of flak for its botched political message - but at least they gave it a shot. Bioshock was altogether less ambitious. But it's early days - in cinematic history we'd still be in black and white".

Myst has been out for the DS in Europe for a good while now, receiving a rating of 59% from NGamer.

"If you want to experience the world of Myst as it was meant to be, it makes a lot more sense if you're sitting at a desk, looking at a crisp PC monitor," said Martin Kitts in his review.

Makes sense to us, especially considering you can pick it up for less than a dollar on Ebay.

For the dedicated American Myst fan though, here's a bunch of screenshots and even a trailer to tempt your insatiable appetite for early-nineties CDROM ports.

Myst comes out in the USA sometime in March.

Wii action-RPG Opoona has been tapped for American release on March 25.

The game, announced almost a year ago, appears to be in the style of a traditional Japanese RPG, but bizarrely only uses the Nunchuk as a controller.

Opoona follows the story of a young boy who crashes on Planet Landroll after his spaceship is involved in an accident. Marooned, players must take control of the boy, find him a job, search for his siblings and defend the people of Landroll from creatures known as Dark Rogues.

Using the Nunchuk, players can manipulate powerful "Energy Bonbons" in different ways and alter trajectories. We presume Energy Bonbons are some sort of super sweet that kills people by overdosing them with sugar and caffeine.

Koei has also labelled Opoona a 'Lifestyle RPG', which seems to mean you get to talk to people and do a few side quests instead of just repeatedly kill monsters for XP.

From the sounds of it and the look of the screenshots, we think it could be awesome. We're especially hopeful that the shoddy translation makes it through to the European release - check out the screenshot where the titular character decries, "You won the battle handily!"

We already know that Nintendo alone can't smash all the R4 devices that allow for easy downloading and piracy of DS games. But could the aid of Europe's ELSPA help Nintendo complete its total smashing plan? Probably not, but that hasn't stopped the European trade organization from lending its help to Nintendo in battling the widely available device.

How exactly they'll help isn't yet clear, though. In a cryptically vague statement to MCV, ELSPA said they were "evaluating the R4 game copying device" and "working closely with [Nintendo] to consider the next step in the UK." While that statement doesn't reveal any concrete plans, it also doesn't rule out any potential "next step." S.W.A.T. team raids, tanks in the streets, nuclear strikes --they're all potential piracy-battling strategies that aren't eliminated by this statement. SuperVillain Studios has let everyone know its PSP version of flOw will be out in the USA on 6th March.

Unfortunately Sony was unavailable to chime in and clear things up for Europe.

FlOw first appeared as a PlayStation Network title (well, it was originally a Flash game if you want to be picky) on PS3. It sees you swimming around some uncharted waters as a tiny organism with a large appetite.

The idea is that you try to get bigger by gobbling things up, but some meals present more problems than others. We were rather taken with it, applauding its serene and hypnotic charms, although it lacked variation and progression.

The PSP conversion will have all of the PS3 content except the expansion, and be controlled by the analogue stick.

Interestingly SuperVillain Studios was first used to make that expansion not the full title, so its exclusion here seems a little bizarre.

It's yet to be priced, and obviously you lot are looking for a cheaper price point given it cost GBP 3.49 on PS3. ...

Eidos is collaborating with clever German man Reiner Knizia to make a DS game to challenge your brain.

Though far from original, Dr. Reiner Knizia's Brainbenders will be more about high-scores and working through taxing puzzles than getting a younger brain or something like that.

Challenges will vary from speed counting marine life in Cape Town to assembling stone tablets in Aztec Ruins. Clever German man will accompany you as you travel around the world, and you can send games to your friends using Wi-Fi.

Reiner Knizia is most famous for his work on board games. He gave up his job as a quantitative analyst more than ten years ago to pursue making them, and has been lumped with lots of recognition and good sales since; his Lord of the Rings game has sold over one million copies.

More of his work is being tapped up for Live Arcade, too, according to Wikipedia.

Brainbenders is yet to be dated, but you can see the first screenshots over in our gallery, right here. ...
