    New from ruckage:

Made for a bit of fun to pass a few hours. Hope you can get some fun from it as well.
Seek guidance from the great and powerful Zoltan from the comfort of your chair. Zoltan 2X is a simulator of sorts of an old fortune telling arcade machine called Zoltan which was made between 1967 and the early 1970s. To use simply select your star sign and then listen to the guidance provided by Zoltan. Remember you should seek guidance from Zoltan no more than once a day - any more will dilute is wisdom

This features all of the voice recordings from the original machine which I found freely available on the internet.

In yesterday's post by Bungie staffer Frankie, what we already knew about Halo 3's mysterious X-button functionality was confirmed: It will be used to deploy equipment like the trip mines and bubble shields we saw in the recent Vidoc, and as of now is, appropriately enough, called Equipment. There's also some hinting about a third item that's yet to be revealed; we're hoping for nunchaku.

Frankie also dismisses worries of the bubble shield unbalancing gameplay as he emphasizes how rare equipment will be on the battlefield. So you can put your dreams of building a bubble shield fort back in your fan fiction where it belongs. There's also a heaping portion of the requisite undermining of all the video you've seen so far and reminders of how much better everything is in the game's current build, which will hopefully hold true when we see for ourselves in May.

    Interesting News from The Hylia

When I first heard the report on Zelda Universe that there would be voice chat in Phantom Hourglass, I was a bit shocked. After seeing that the translation was done by somebody who is not proficient in the language, I was high skeptical and refused to report on it until confirmation could be obtained.

However, as this news broke after NOA closed on Friday, I was forced to employ Patricia's Japanese skills again to get to the bottom of this mystery for now. Below is a full translation of the entire Weekly Famitsu scan:

"The beginning of an adventure with a new feeling that challenges you to use the stylus!

The newest game of the Legend of Zelda series fully exploits the functions of the Nintendo DS! Let us introduce this game's greatest feature: the stylus system! In the newest installment of the series, you can draw with the stylus the path the boomerang will follow or the route of your ship. It also uses the Nintendo Wi-Fi connection for a versus mode.

Smash via Wi-Fi! The one-on-one vs. mode
In the versus mode, you take turns to play as the offense and the defense as you scramble for the force pieces on the map. The objective when you're playing as the offense is getting the force pieces and taking them to your base. As the defense, you'll have to control three pursuers by drawing their movements in order to hunt down Link.

    screen captions:
Lineback [romaji: Rainbakku], the greedy sailor.
Link ventures with Lineback. He's got an evil-looking face, what's his goal?

    Throw the boomerang!
Aim for the switch surrounded by walls with your boomerang. Think well and draw its path.

    Fire the cannon!
The ship follows the route you draw. Attack the enemies that show up using the cannon.

    The sword controls change
Touch an enemy or slide the stylus around Link and he'll swing his sword.

    Hiragana indicators!
During the game, touch the kanji you can't read and its furigana will appear. Little kids will be happy with this.

A quick point-match playing in the offense and defense.
It's a battle in which the offensive controls the main character and the defensive draws the moves of the pursuers. "

Here was her take on the ZU report:
"I've read the whole article and it doesn't mention anything about chat. I think someone misunderstood the "tsuushin" part in the purple rectangle, which literally means communication or correspondence, but in this case it means "by", or "via"."

So, there you have it. No voice chat in Phantom Hourglass for now. Hope that clears everything up. ...

How are you enjoying the sunshine? Great isn't it? The only reason we ask is that there's really not a lot of reasons to be indoors playing games at the moment. This Friday's release list isn't looking like much to get excited about.

So you've probably got a bit of a back catalogue to get through that'll keep you busy. But as far as new releases go - bar a couple of stellar titles over the next few months - it's going to be a fallow period.

What the industry needs is a summer blockbuster mentality. We shouldn't forget that before Spielberg's Jaws shook up the movie industry back in 1975 it had a similar lull in its cycle. Of course, you may remember that Atari admirably tried to bring out a summer blockbuster with Driver 3 a couple of years ago. A shame it was a mess of a game with more bugs than an insect zoo. After saying all that, pick of the bunch next week is probably F.E.A.R. on PS3 or DKR on DS. Apart from that, there isn't a great deal else to say.

The complete list of games released in the UK this week (20/04/07):

    Diddy Kong Racing, DS, Nintendo

    F.E.A.R., PS3, Vivendi

    Free Running, PS2/PSP, Ubisoft

Midway Arcade Treasures Deluxe, PC, Zoo Digital

    Raw Danger, PS2, 505 Games

    SnoCross 2, PS2, Oxygen

    Super Fruitfall, PS2, System 3

    World Championship Poker, PS2/PC/360/PSP, Oxygen

    Zendoku, DS, Eidos ...

Could it be true? Could Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core actually be coming out? After years of development, this hotly anticipated prequel is ready to strike Japan on August 2nd--at least, according to GameFront. Their source? Apparently, the most recent issue of Jump reveals the startlingly early release. However, as no scan was provided, we have our doubts.

If this release date holds true, EGM's Rumor Mill recent story about a year-long Crisis Core delay would be debunked. Certainly, with pre-orders already reaching overwhelming limits, an earlier release would be wise. We're keeping our fingers crossed. Until we find out more, join us in drooling at these new direct-feed screenshots at Ultimagame.com. ...
