Fanjita posted this over at Noobz

Over and over again, we get questions from people asking things like:

When will there be a 2.81 downgrader?
Should I sell my 3.03 PSP and buy a 1.5?
    Should I upgrade my 2.81 to 3.03?

This article is an attempt to provide some balanced answers to those questions.
    Here are the facts:

It looks like the Team C+D kernel mode exploit will work all the way up to v3.03 - the relevant code seems to be unchanged.
It's very likely that Sony will patch that exploit in the next firmware.
As soon as a user-mode exploit is found for 2.81-3.03, it should be possible to get homebrew running on those firmwares.
It looks like the current 2.80 downgrader will probably work on v3.03, once we can run homebrew on that firmware.
Dark_AleX's OE firmwares are the best platform for homebrew users, and it seems likely that it will be possible to keep updating OE for the latest firmwares shortly after they are released.
It has historically always been easier to downgrade lower firmwares.
So what does all that mean for 2.81-3.03 owners?

Well, right now things are more hopeful for you than they have been for bleeding edge firmwares for a long time. We're only 1 step away from being able to downgrade your PSP and move it onto an OE firmware. It's almost certain that a downgrader will eventually come - but no-one can accurately predict when that might be, so please don't ask!

Upgrading to the next firmware release would be homebrew suicide. Don't expect any sympathy if you choose to upgrade as soon as the next firmware is released - if you wait a short time, you can probably have it as an OE version instead.
Upgrading your firmware even from 2.81 to 3.00 is probably not a great move - you may delay your ability to downgrade when a downgrader finally comes.

One final note - if you have more money than patience, then your best bet for getting homebrew on your non-homebrewable PSP is to simply sell it, and buy a downgradeable PSP. The difference in price is not very large these days, and so it's not really a hard thing to do if you really can't wait.

Luckily the likes of Success HK are selling v1.5 Homebrew Friendly PSPs in Blue, Silver and Pink and Divineo China are selling v2.71 Homebrew Friendly PSPs in White and Black for all of you who want homebrew now and believe me the full speed PSX emulator makes you want to play homebrew more than ever. ...

Tails has posted his/her release in the Palib Coding comp:

    Heres the release info:

The purpose of this game is to ... avoid 'em all
yes, but what do i have to avoid ?

you have to avoid the bad oranges which want to hurt your little red square very bad
you just have to use the stylus to move around the touch screen and avoid the oranges falling from the sky

to do so, you'll be helped by Super Tomato and Super Apple which will help you with extra bonuses such as slow motion or invincibility. just grab them to take them (super tomato is red and super apple is green. oranges are ... orange, avoid them !)
use them wisely, and with the left or right keys (left handed people can use corresponding keys Y and A)

Bonuses are cumulated and you use them when you want, with a limit of one at the same time

your life gauge is only here to forbid you to stay on the extreme left or right side of the touch screen. This area is not allowed at all, even with invincibility.

via palib comes another release for their coding comp:

TheTrees - YACOT(Yet Another Clone of Tetris)

Set up full row of fruits to make them disappear. You lose if your fruits get stocked up to the top. Feels kinda stupid explaining rules of this game... It's almost like explaining pang... If there is any player out there who doesn't know what tetris is I'm much older than I think XD

You can gain levels every time you make 100 rows disappear, making blocks fall a little bit faster. There is hall of fame, you can choose one of 3 fruits to play with(orange, apple and citrus), you can choose your starting level if you don't like to sleep trough level 1 to about 30. Max level is 60.

Game automatically sets your name the same as you put in your DS settings. There is no possibility to change it for now, as it would be tedious to do it every time you start the game, while there is no saving.

What is done but not included in this release:
Music - I have everything coded and I have nice mods, but I don't really know how moders scene looks at using their mods like that without asking.

What I still have to do:
Whoops, I forgot "your top score" section to update, but without saving and with hall of fame it is not a problem
    Name change!
Getting rid of 2 minor glitches that you might see

XParano has posted a new version of OrangeSnake for the PAlib Comp, heres the details:

It's basically a snake-type game, but with an evergrowing snake, there's no need to feed him, he grows by himself.

On the bottom screen, at the bottom right corner, a button will show every 3seconds:
press it, it will give you 150 points
don't press any button, it will removes you 100 points
press the wrong button, it will removes you 200 points, and makes your snake bigger

There are pills, and they give you 500 points and random good or bad bonuses: Grow / double speed / single speed / 5000 pts / Shrink (grows your snake / doubles his speed / set his speeds back to normal / add 5000 pts to your score /quite rare-Reduces the size of your snake)

Sometimes a ink stain will come accross the screen, just touch it with your own finger to make it disappear and add 350 pts to your score.

When you start a new game, you have 2 Stars (seen on the upper left of the upper screen, under your lives) that gives you access to the bonus stage, on the upper screen
Bonus stages allow you to reduce your size, by eating (yes, with his mouth, not his hair) your body pieces in a basic Pong lookalike game...
If you don't have anymore stars, you can still go there to "move" your snake's head position.

You gain 1 life after the first 50.000 pts, and after the following 100.000 pts

(PS: you will love my nicely MS-Paint drawn sprites, also, be aware, this is my second attempt to create something on DS, I should have discovered the joy of homebrewing earlier than 2weeks ago.

Hello and thank you for contacting Nintendo,

I appreciate your taking the time to share your comments regarding the Virtual Console. An updated preview feature would be very nice. I'm not trying to make you feel all warm and fuzzy, and as you know, an update like that may never happen; however, I have forwarded the suggestion to the appropriate department for further review. While you won't be contacted further regarding this, please rest assured that your feedback will be taken into consideration.

    Have fun!

Dear Nintendo, I've written you before about the virtual console.
But that's not the point I wish to make this time.
I find myself at this moment with a stock pile of wii points and nothing to spend them on.
That's not to say there isn't a number of great games on the wii shop channel.
That's only to say I've bought all the games that I know I would love to play, and I look forward to future virtual console releases, in fact every monday I check the shop channel hourly to see if that weeks virtual console content has been released, What can I say. Im a huge retro fan.
However on to the criticism part. there are some games in the wii shop channel that interest me.
But for lack of better description and illustration, I find myself passing up those titles. Dungeon Explorer, Gunstar heroes, and Ristar come to mind.
Now I realize this is where this email is forwarded to someone in the virtual console department to give me a nice generic response with a personal touch to make me feel all warm and bubbly inside, followed by the pitch to join the Nsider forums and such.
But before you do that, Please consider that on standard definition televisions, while the (More Details) descriptions are pretty vague, the illustrations while adding some flavor are hard to view.
a magnification feature would be really nice in these areas along with more detailed descriptions.
And even though this isn't likely to happen, short videos of in game footage would be a welcome addition as well.
Now before this is disregarded as just a constructive view from a wii fan. Which it is.
Please consider that these features would be useful to help appeal to a wider rage of people with various eye sight conditions and even those who would like to know more information about the Game's they're about to take a chance on.

    use the analog/digital swap feature.

It has been developped on linux for Firmware 1.5 and i hope it works also for 2.x
using the great eloader (0.99x) from http://www.noobz.eu/.

How to use it ? Everything is in the README.txt file.

Sources are included, and this package is under the GNU public license,
read COPYING.txt file for more information about it.

*** Many thanks to Poem58, and all Atari 2600's fans for their help and support ! ***
